So, it is almost officially summer and you are all looking at the calendar & muttering, "damn, that is a lot of free time to fill up with something exciting. What am I ever going to do?" Well! In the constant fight against boredom & apathy, I am pleased to announce that, Montreal, you ain't go nothin' to worry about. Let's do this all chronological like. June 20th. Feu Therese , formed due to Fly Pan Am's hiatus will be doing their improv/art/post-rock [...]

Montreal electronic rock band We Are Wolves have announced that they will be releasing their sophomore album Total Magique on September 4th through Fat Possum Records . The band released Non-Stop Je Te Plie en Deux in 2005, which was a fantastic combination of non-singing vocals (to say that the vocalist does traditional singing is sort of a stretch), experimental distorted electronics, traditional electronic dance beats and some normal indie rock guitar work. At times, there is a hint of video gameness; take a listen to "La [...]

Montreal's We Are Wolves were not only my favorite wolf band of 2005, but they also released one of my favorite albums, Non-Stop Je Te Plie en Deux . Two years later and the Wolves are back with a new single... and later this year their sophmore album, Total Magique . "Fight & Kiss" is the lead single - not only does it have the most happening name ever - but it picks off right where the band left off. "F&K" is a driving synth rock track that is just flirting to get remixed [...]
A quick post before I go to bed. Firstly, I draw your attention to a new blog in the right-hand column ------> called I Rock Cleveland, which, as its name suggests, is all about the middle Americana. I've just downloaded a fuckload of stuff from there and it's mostly pretty good. Secondly, I move from rock to electronica. I started downloading Femme Fatality's Octavia's Love Song a few minutes
SXSW plans: The whole big BIGSTEREO family arrives in Austin on Tuesday. Please give us a shout for our telephone numbers if you wanna hang out, dance mad, be crazy. Rchrd Oh?! is dj'ing at NOON on Friday, March 16th at Factory People . Come out and show yourself and buy some new clothes and listen to some hot music. And I've had a few email requests asking for recommendations and where we'll be at. Generally, I don't know where I'm gonna be five minutes from now. And there is just way [...]

I asked Montreal resident "BrooklynVegan Mike" if he could give is a quick preview of some of the bands from Montreal that are traveling to Austin for SXSW this year. Here's what he came up with.... Montreal has created an environment of great, imaginative music. We have our own indie music showcase and outdoor music festival, and are the artistic capital of Canada (despite what Toronto might tell you). Faster then you can say poutine, the city has erupted on to the indie stage with a [...]
Last time I collected a book/song list it was during the dead heat of summer, when going outside meant evaporating into the concrete. Now it is winter, and a blustery chill has finally descended upon LA (in the evenings at least). Therefore, RC recommends staying out of the cold (especially if you are reading this on the east coast), snuggling into a soft coach, and reading some dark, cynical

This night the monkey died. His skeleton has gone gangrenous with a toxicity that swells the night with green foam and odd light. Join the fray and tangle. Trentemoller - take me into your skin (the last resort, 2006) M. Craft - you are the music (playground dub) (unreleased, 2006) Low - monkey (bob mould remix) (tonight the monkeys die Ep, 2006) [...]

Thanks a lot to everyone who made it out last night! I know I'm not exactly an impartial observer, but believe me when I say that it was one of the best shows I've been to all year. [...]
So with the release of the CMJ Schedule yesterday I've begun planning for my first forray to the marathon. It's going to be a crazy, jam packed week, with tons of tough decisions that will have to be made. It could also become a lot more crazy with events that haven't been announced so I'll try to keep you up to date as much as I can as the days near closer. If you feel like stalking me during the week you can try following the schedule I'll be posting here over the next few days. 2:00pm - [...]

I don't get it, why all of the sudden is everyone and their grandpa naming their bands things involving wolves? Are they the new hip power animal or something? I can't say I am a huge fan of any of the bands that are so wolf-centric these days, but it's just kinda weird to me how within the past year I've come across so many new bands with wolf monikers. Come on, kids, can't you be more original than that? Some fine examples: [...]
I have no clue how to classify these Montreal guys. Perhaps think Beck from the Mellow Gold days crossed with Nine Inch Nails. I'm late in the game blogging about these guys but if you've been in the dark like myself, download and enjoy: Little Birds MP3 La Nature MP3 Vamos a la playa MP3 Buy We Are Wolves at Emusic . Following the example set by major retail stores, we're going to go ahead and advertise holiday-related events months early. As mentioned previously, we at Mocking Music will soon be hosting our first annual Halloween Party - an exciting night of elaborate costumes, live music, luxurious prizes, unwelcome debauchary, and, of course, candy. The price of this wonderful event is supposed to be fifteen dollars at the door, but we're going to let you get away with $12 if you're in costume. Remember when High School dances were cheaper if you brought a non-perishable [...]
Photo courtesy of dan fucking hogan Are there any bands not from Montreal? Weirdly enough, I was at an in-store for We Are Scientists when We Are Wolves first made themselves known to me. After WAS finished their set, Music Millennium put on a cd which I instantly had to ask about. What they were playing was track one of Non-Stop Je Te Plie en Deux. We Are Wolves are French-Canadian and sing in English, French, and Spanish (due a bit to the lead singer having [...]
