Listen to We Can't Enjoy Ourselves 's new song "Bring The Bastards Down" below, from their album "Never Listen To The Ones You Love" . We've been fans of New York's We Can't Enjoy Ourselves for a couple of years now. Back then they were just throwing out their indie-folk-pop demos with no real intention of them getting an official release, but now they're getting just that. If they're new to you, acquaint your late selves with "Winsome William" , [...]

I feel like I've got some heavier tunes on the site today, so I wanted to toss up something ever-so catchy. I've talked about We Can't Enjoy Ourselves several times before, so with their new album, Make A Mess Of Sacred Ground , coming later this year, I figured I'd get this ditty up for your tastes. It encompasses everything we've come to expect, and love, from the group, featuring a bouncing rhythm and nice hook. Personally, I'm always a sucker when the whole gang jumps in to offer [...]

We Can't Enjoy Ourselves, the New York band lead by Giovanni Saldarriaga, have a new album on the way that, by all accounts, has been a long time coming. If you didn't catch the boat last time around , don't miss their new album, Make A Mess of Sacred Ground , out next week. Until then, download and listen to the album's first single below. We Can't Enjoy Ourselves — Winsome William

We Can't Enjoy Ourselves - Devil in the Old Folks Home A while back, I shared a devilishly catchy single called " Winsome William " and loved it enough to add it to my last mixtape . Now the New York band led by Giovanni Saldarriaga back with another hand-clap n' snap pop new wave gem. They'll be releasing their new album Make a Mess of Sacred Ground digitally next week with "awesome cover art that my friend Jocelyn made out of construction paper (it's going to look beautiful when the 12 [...]

We Can't Enjoy Ourselves don't produce the typical New York jangle pop – their brand is saucy & reckless, like a combination of The Smiths and Pavement (whose song 'We Dance' perhaps their name references). Their bio states: " There once was a band in New York called We Can't Enjoy Ourselves . They were young, energetic, and happy; one day they abandoned their matronly motown shuffle for the sake of a younger genre; they loved, but they were not loved. Their lives ended in disaster. " The 7-song EP One [...]

Tweet Listen to and download "Winsome William" and "Eloise" below, two new songs from We Can't Enjoy Ourselves . We've been writing about We Can't Enjoy Ourselves for a good 13 months or so , and they rarely manage to disappoint. They've largely gone unnoticed by those who will rue the days they did when these guys finally blow up. They're still working on their debut [...]

We Can't Enjoy Ourselves - Winsome William Don't know about you, but I'm a huge The Smiths fan, and pretty much anything that treads into that morose pop territory scores bonus points in my book. Here, one of the catchiest modern numbers I've heard in some time - it sidles up to the bar, orders an Old Fashioned, and starts to drunkenly divulge its dark secrets to the barkeep while you eavesdrop. Get this sweet single from their Bndcmp .

RayRay and I have both raved on We Can't Enjoy Ourselves , and it doesn't look like that sort of adoration is going to end here. The group tossed us up a new track off their upcoming album, and it's just as good, if not better than their previous work. It's got a bit of swing to it upon the opening, but as you listen to the song progress, it takes off into a blissful state, with a bit of ringing guitar to wrap up the track. This is definitely a promising song, illustrating to [...]

The Dreichcast is so called because yesterday was fucking dreich . Dreich is another one of those wonderful Scots words which I, with my vague sort of RP/BBC/public school accent can't really pronounce properly, but I wish I could. Nevertheless it worked out pretty nicely actually, and despite the drizzle and general unpleasantness, Mrs. Toad and I went out for a wander, had some lunch, bought some immensely smelly cheese, and then went and got utterly scooshed at the Emily Scott album launch, and then on to Papi Falso at Henry's Cellar Bar. I really [...]

It's been a fair-few months since we last heard from New York 's We Can't Enjoy Ourselves , and since we last featured them they've been fighting off bidding wars from major labels, toured with U2, and saved the world from an alien invasion. Ok, so none of that actually [...]

If you scour the Interwebs long enough late at night, you're bound to come across something decent, which is exactly the case when I stumbled upon We Can't Enjoy Ourselves . They've just self-released their own album, One Belongs Here More Than You , and you can pick it up for the lucky "name your own price" tag. While the band might be from the States, they definitely have the dance-hall feel of British bands celebrated in the annals of Northern Soul. Give this a try, and get your feet [...]

Looking for some new jangly rock to swing to? Then look no further than Brooklyn indie band We Can't Enjoy Ourselves . They sent us their track "Back of My Bible" from their latest album 'One Belongs Here More Than You' and I'm digging it! Definitely has a brit-pop feel to it which I really like. Here is that track, plus album opener "Miss Maris Morris" . If you like what you hear you can pick up the whole thing as a 'name your own price' [...]

We Can't Enjoy Ourselves must be lying to us: they definitely sound like they are having the time of their life on the track "Miss Maris Morris". The jangly guitars are crisp and trebly, which juxtapose nicely with the full-bodied bassline. The band keeps the relatively simple chord progression from becoming redundant by turning it inside-out a few times over the 3 minutes and 40 seconds. I can't help but compare them to early Scottish post-punkers Orange Juice and, more recently, UK Brit-poppers Good Shoes, mainly because of Giovanni Saldarriaga's European-tinged vocals. It's hard to believe they're from Brooklyn and [...]
It's safe to say that the found footage that was used to craft this music video was not filmed specifically for "Put Your Blue Dress On," but, as you'll see, it matches up quite well. Then again, We Can't Enjoy Ourselves possess a classic edge to their sound that recalls the upbeat swing and sharp cut rock 'n' roll of decades past. So, it only seems fitting that this song and old footage suit one another in just the right ways. The piece was directed and edited by Will McCord. Download "Put [...]

Brooklyn's We Can't Enjoy Ourselves has been churning out some perfectly delightful pop ditties over the past several months, and it's only because of my rapidly declining cognitive skills that the band has failed to pop up here on MOKB. That all changes today with the appearance of Put Your Blue Dress On , a seamless and timeless slice of danceable pop pablum that comes complete with a public domain footage video with strangely fetishistic undertones. The song is found on the band's 2010 release, One Belongs Here More Than [...]
