This week's New Music Tuesday is going to feature several bands that are new to me this year and have caught my attention for their brilliance. If you haven't heard of them yet, take a sample and enjoy... Kestrels A kestrel is a type of bird, a member of the falcon genus. Unfortunately, that Wikipedia reference has little to do with the Canadian band whose debut single has been lodged in my Top 10 of the week for a couple months [...]

Artist: We Were Promised Jetpacks Single: Quiet Little Voices Label: FatCat Records Release Date: 04/05/09 Link: www.myspace.com/wewerepromised jetpacks Words by: Jack Phillips Part of that already impressive clique of Scottish bands, Edinburgh's We Were Promised Jetpacks add the heavier frontier to Frightened Rabbit and Twilight Sad's already sturdy base. We Were Promised Jetpacks' new single 'Quiet Little Voices' isn't all bluster though, it has a melody and chorus that make you knees tremble, and it sounds huge. I [...]
New Music | We Were Promised Jetpacks ..And let's begin. First up in our We ♥ Scotland series (not a real series, but it should be) come We Were Promised Jetpacks. Ships With Holes Will Sink is really a masterclass in writing/recording/producing/ma stering/promoting indie music, holding those raw elements that majors always seem to presume people don't like, and a well timed presence at SXSW this year. Bravo, boys.
"Little words of wisdom creep into my ears." FatCat Records has, as of late, been the only thing on my mind. I've gone nuts over my relatively recent discovery of Frightened Rabbit , I wait in serious impatience for the new Twilight Sad (who needs to introduction...) track, and, if my copy of the upcoming full-length from We Were Promised Jetpacks was to actually exist in the physical world, it'd be wearing thin already. Although the [...]

ALBUM REVIEW: We Were Promised Jetpacks - These Four Walls Words: Gareth O'Malley They say that you've got your whole life to make your first album, but only eighteen months to make your second. Well, some would say that Scottish four-piece We Were Promised Jetpacks certainly took their time - they've been together four years, and have not released anything thus far. With 'These Four Walls', however, the phrase 'good things come to those who wait' fits the album perfectly. The wait is almost over. Released on June 15th via FatCat records, [...]
LETTING NEW ACTS INTRODUCE THEMSELVES We were promised jetpacks you know. And flying cars. And robot helpers. I remember that episode of Tomorrows World and I don't know about you, but I want what I was promised.... Aided by probably the best band name since... well, maybe ever actually, We Were Promised Jetpacks are about to start eeking their way into the nations consiousness. But

It looks like the warm weather may finally get here this weekend. Finally! On the drive home today, I was able to put the windows down, sun shining, and blaring We Were Promised Jetpacks ' " Quiet Little Voices "..awesome song. (little bonus for you) On with the tuneage... Is It Any Wonder? by Keane from Under the Iron Sea All the Pretty Faces by The Killers from Sawdust Síðasti bærinn 5 by Kjartan Sveinsson (of Sigur [...]

We Were Promised Jetpacks are a Scottish group clearly formed with the intent of injecting foot stomping, fist pumping, and infectious pop/punk anthems. Their single, Quiet Little Voices, is uptempo and pulsing, dashing past their influences atop the momentum of breakneck hihats and powerful vocals in order to arrive at an explosive chorus loaded with backing vocals cathartic enough to get a stadium on their feet. We Were Promised Jetpacks make it painfully obvious you should like them. The other song off the single, Moving Clocks, slows down the pace somewhat and loses some of the instant sing-alongability of the [...]

Words: Tim Boddy Someone at Fat Cat records has got supremely astute musical taste buds. The Brighton based company continue to find the most innovative, bright and darn right excellent artists around; We Were Promised Jetpacks being no exception, who were signed late last year. Yet another Scottish based band, the foursome share a similar sound to heavily-lauded-and-rightly-so compatriots Frightened Rabb it, who they also toured with recently. Future single Quiet Little Voices has simply got 'Indie Anthem' written all over it, released May 4th. A gorgeous track soaked [...]

Who : Conor Oberst and the Mystic Valley Band Title : Outer South Release Date : May 5th Label : Merge Records Thoughts : Last year when Conor Oberst dropped the whole Bright Eyes name it was a pretty big deal to folks around the internet. A lot was made about it, though it all seemed to make sense. The general [...]
If you recognise the name We Were Promised Jetpacks , then there's a good shot it's because you were at SXSW last month, as they were, too. I, however, was not, so I stumbled upon them via Waved Rumor , which I rediscovered via my overcrowded inbox. (I pay attention to your emails, I swear! I just forget to, ya' know. Follow up.) Anywho. I like the sound of the a-side of their debut single , "Quiet Little Voices," out 4th May on Fat Cat Records with the b-side "Let's Call This A [...]

Track Review: We Were Promised Jetpacks - Quiet Little Voices Words: Gareth O'Malley Nearly four years have passed since We Were Promised Jetpacks formed. Feels like an eternity, but now, finally, they're motoring. Debut single 'Quiet Little Voices' is released through FatCat Records on May 4th, and is the first taste of the band's highly anticipated debut album, 'These Four Walls', which arrives June 15th. It's awesome, might I add... but I'll save that for another time. "Quiet little voices / running [...]

This is new. And exciting. The first single from this Scottish band's debut album. The band is called We Were Promised Jetpacks . Such a great name. The single is called "Quiet Little Voices". The album, to be released in June, is called "These Four Walls". The band is young and numbers four. Like Frightened Rabbit , they are from Scotland and also on the label Fat Cat . But this band is a little harder edged, a little more frenetic. Anyway, this first song for listening is pretty damn good and a lot of fun. Hope [...]

We Were Promised a Single For nearly two years, We Were Promised Jetpacks went unsigned, but due to their band's rousing stage performance, they created a mountain of buzz that they rightfully deserved. After the Scottish quartet signed to FatCat Records (alongside fellow countrymen Twilight Sad and Frightened Rabbit ), the band hit the studio to polish up many of their concert staples, as well as penning a slew of new jams. On May 4, 2009, the band will release the [...]

New Bob Mould track released, Prince's drops new albums online (sort of) & the Evening Rig interviewed

I caught about two songs of a We Were Promised Jet Packs set in Austin last week. People were loving it. I sought them out on name alone, but was thrilled to find out that their music matches their awesome name. I think it was Frank who commented to me on Red River that if you like Frightened Rabbit , then you'll probably be fond of We Were Promised Jet Packs as well. Truth. This song leads off one of my first (and forthcoming) Muzzle of Bees Podcasts. [...]
