Kritiker und Konzertgänger erfreuen sich an We were promised Jetpacks gleichermassen. 2011 erschien "In the Pit of the Stomach".

Facebook To promise that something is coming in "early 20123 may be sufficient detail when that date is still a ways off on the horizon, but at a certain point it will eventually actually be early 2012 - as it is now - and when that time arrives you'd best have a little more to offer. That first part of that scenario was most of 2011 for London's Clock Opera , who despite sounding more than ready for prime time when I first saw them last SXSW and reconfirmed at Iceland Airwaves [...]
It was an OK year. Nothing more, nothing less. Timber Timbre and their album "Creep On Creepin' On" was without a doubt, the album I've listened to and seen performed live the most all year. Taylor Kirk's dark, swampy sound speaks to me. As for the rest of my top 5, these albums will be listened by yours truly for years [...]

Scottish Kate is a great friend of this blog and has often offered her (sometimes pithy) opinions on the world of music - and very good taste she has too. She also runs the always excellent (sometimes pithy), and often provocative blog A Burdz Eye View for all things Scottish (of course), political and musical. Here are her aural selections for 2011. The Burd's Best Songs of 2011 Well it doesn't get any easier. Though given that all my old schticks are in here aplenty [...]
Oh no, you found me. Do not overlook this album this year. Thanks to WFUV for putting together sessions like this.

By Alex Brenner Best of 2011 (in no particular order) Well it's been a pretty good year for music I guess. Some real strong releases and of course some real turds, thanks Metallica. So here is my list of what I liked about 2011. 1. Wye Oak - Civilian . This band is phenomenal, live they are amazing. Great songs but also very dynamic and sonically always surprising. I guess a great mix between country and shoegazing [...]
Scots We Were Promised Jetpacks recently filmed a performance of their latest single 'Human Error' (backed by double A side 'Ink Slowly Dries') for posterity. This was filmed at London's XOYO in Shoreditch. Enjoy it below.

Thursday, December 8, 2011 Part two of my album list awaits you just below. Check it out, and then be sure to return tomorrow for my final 10 selections. Enjoy. - 20 Through 11 - #20) Cults - Self Titled As I've said a few times before, Cults have this weird, generic approach to stuff that I think is a turn-off to most people. [...]
Earlier today the South by Southwest Festival (SXSW) updated its list of showcasing artists for the 2012 music event. Included in that announcement are the first two Scottish bands who are expected to make the trip to Austin next March - Laki Mera and Three Blind Wolves. More below. Regular readers will know that as [...]

Tweet Buy the album on Amazon - Vinyl | MP3 | CD We Were Promised Jetpacks released their high-spirited debut "These Four Walls" in 2009 under their current label, Fat Cat Records, and quickly caught the attention of hordes of indie listeners with their first single, "Quiet Little Voices" . The Edinburgh, Scotland ensemble produce a sound that calls to mind [...]
by Steve McGillivray December is traditionally the time of year when bands and artists unleash their horrific Christmas records upon a public that seems only too willing to lap them up. The last time someone did a good Christmas song was when Bruce Springsteen released 'Santa Clause is Coming to Town'. It's true. It was brilliant. You can bet that you won't hear a Christmas song as good as that this year. Anyway, I digress. This weeks singles didn't really contain any Christmas songs, unless you count a reference to a Snowman. Without further ado..... [...]

In years past we have posted mid-year and year-end best of lists. As we started thinking about the year end list this year, we realized that there were a handful of albums that came out in the second half of the year that won't make our final list of the year but certainly would have made the mid-year list if they had come out earlier in the year (or we had bothered to listen to them earlier). In other words, just like some of the records from the mid-year list don't make it through to the [...]

Nic Shonfeld Alongside labelmates and countrymen The Twilight Sad and Frightened Rabbit , Glasgow-via-Edinburgh's We Were Promised Jetpacks should have formed a 21st century dream team of new Scottish acts, dispensing their peoples' distinctive brand of angst through their respective brands of rock. And yet while those other two won and maintain places in my heart, Jetpacks' 2009 debut These Four Walls did't quite win me over. The specifics of why aren't entirely clear, but I suspect that it was just a little too [...]

It's not every night you get three solid bands in one gig. The long-awaited return of We Were Promised Jetpacks with openers Royal Bangs and Bear Hands at The Music Box proved that it can happen. The last time the Scottish lads of WWPJ performed in L.A. was at The Troubadour two years ago. You could tell most of the crowd at The Music Box was at that show and waiting to hear songs from their debut album These Four Walls . However, Adam Thompson (lead vocals, guitar), Michael Palmer (guitar), Sean Smith (bass) and Darren Lackie (drums) had [...]
