Sean Bones, aka Sean Sullivan, specializes in the kind of bouncy, melodic, echoing pop that can always find a place in today's musical spectrum. While his previous work fit somewhere in the reggae pop category, Bones' new 7-inch single sounds a little bit like Dr. Dog given a reverb makeover. The piano serves as the [...]

Courtesy: Patrick J. Eves of Hippie Death Bed American/Australian affinity has grown as of late. Barack Obama recently toured the island continent and announced the opening of a new military base in Durban, Australia alongside his counterpart, Ms. Julia Gillard. At around the same time, in the spirit of A NZ US cooperation, Sydney outfit The Jezabels performed a gig this past Monday evening at the Mercury Lounge in the Lower East Side in support of the recent release of their first LP, Prisoner . - [...]

You really couldn't have picked a better song to mimic the feeling of a shark attack, than the famous 2 note theme to Jaws. But, if that hadn't of worked out, "Shark" the new song from Sleeping Bags wouldn't have been a bad choice. The song opens up with blistering guitars that, when played too loud, could easily blow a speaker. The mood is dark and menacing, foreboding something along the lines of red water and perhaps a floating limb. Echoing evil vocals enter adding shadows to the already brooding track. Just as the pressure seems to come crushing down, [...]
How was everybody's week? My family came into town for a visit, that was nice. Now it's time to share some great songs and videos in the latest Weekly Roundup .
Posted in Play-This-List Yesterday we relaunched the site with a brand new design (which I hope our regular readers like!), it's long overdue, and something we worked hard on getting done. In light of that I figure a bit of reflection on the blog makes sense, and a catch up on some tunes that deserve attention - so [...]
Last week, we featured a track by Los Angeles-based band PAPA in an end of summer mix. Turns out, these guys are built for all seasons. The band, which is the project of Girls drummer Darren Weiss and his childhood friend, bassist Danny Presant, has a dynamite EP coming out October 4th on Hit City [...]

So much to catch up on...here's a few tracks to tickle the earbuds. Veteran noisemongering indie rockers Comet Gain have given us another track from their excellent album Howl Of The Lonely Crowd , this time it is the marvellously titled Clang Of The Concrete Swans . The Los Angeles underground has always been a sprawling, gnarly place, and a new collection titled "Beat L.A." goes where few covers albums have gone before. The project — from Narnack Records and Greatmind Records — is a charity effort benefiting Doctors Without Borders and that organization's relief efforts in earthquake-torn Haiti. The compilation (out Aug. 2) sees artists from L.A.'s indie present covering songs from L.A.'s punk past, and with some remarkable results, especially Devon Williams' "Yellow Pills" (20/20), Imaad Wasif's "Go Insane" (the Doors), Josh Klinghoffer's "Anymore" (Thelonious Monster), Night Horse's "Lie [...]

We've got the second single to be released from the charity album 'Beat LA' for you, and it's a beaut. In the general theme of the album, where new LA bands cover classic tracks from LA bands of yore, No Age have taken on The Urinals' 'Male Masturbation'. It's as terrifically trashy as you'd expect and has had us bouncing around the office all day. The album is raising money for Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières , an organization which has been on the frontlines when it comes to helping the people of Haiti after the catastrophic earthquake [...]

Luigi is this huge Italian guy I've been working with this summer. He took a recent trip to New Jersey for his grandson's confirmation. When he returned to work he spent a whole break (20 minutes) talking about all the glorious food he ate. One of the things he mentioned was combination dish of French Fries, gravy and cheese. Two years ago I would've said that is the most disgusting thing I've ever heard. But not the me of today. The me of today wanted to try it. Well, let me back up a second. I wanted to try it [...]

Aux.tv sums up the new Ohbijou track nicely be saying the band have found a way to "incorporate heavier sounds without overwhelming their delicate, swooning orchestral folk-pop". Agreed, look for this track on the upcoming release of Metal Meets (out Sept. 27th on Last Gang). Ohbijou: "Niagara" by wearesolidgold

Wow it's been so far a great summer of new tracks. Missing out their set at Canada Day. Ohbijou has finally dropped a new single from the upcoming album "Metal Meets" on September 27th. The leading single is called Niagara. I am already in love with the new single! Casey's vocal is good as ever. Had that harder edge sound than before. Have a listen to Niagara .
