I fixed my tail light. It was a simple matter of checking the fuses, noting that the 8A fuse was blown, and swapping it out. Still having issues with the front indicator and running light, but thanks to the good folk at BMW 2002 FAQ, I should have it figured out in the near future. On to the show. Tonight's show was all about current favorites. I played a few tracks discovered within the last week, and several that have been in heavy rotation on my personal playlist of late. [...]

I took a year off from doing a favorite Seattle records list due to lazyitis (sorry Seattle). Here's my top ten records from my fair city for 2011 (sorry Seattle). 1. Seapony - Go With Me ( Hardly Art ) Twee is alive and well in Seattle. Seapony kind of came out of nowhere late last year. They put their debut album out on local label Hardly Art, played countless shows around town and generally put the Northwest back on the map when [...]

I don't write too many album reviews any more (life!), but that don't mean I haven't been listening to some cool shit so far in 2011. If you, like me, are wondering just where in the hell this year has gone, then maybe you can take solace in the fact that the glass is half empty. There's still 6 months to go! THUSLY, here are some albums that you should at least slightly consider listening to, based on my esteemed, well-worn historical opinions. Kinda organized in descending fashion, and, no, I didn't think the list would [...]

The title kind of says it all, but if you've come this far, maybe you'll come a bit farther. Webelos is a Seattle band who recently released an LP that goes by the name Shadow Seasons . You can listen to/purchase it over at their bandcamp or any one of Seattle's fine independent record stores. And you better, because it's pretty excellent . The band, led by guitarist/vocalist Jim Smith and subject to many lineup changes, has been flying under the overground for the better part of 4 sun cycles [...]

Seattle's Webelos have just released their first album, Shadow Seasons . It's a quirky little critter that took a few plays to make an impact, but since that awkward first meetin Shadow Seasons and I have become quite comfortable with one another. Webelos sound like they could have been on Teenbeat back in the 902s when Unrest and Eggs were around. The record is half instrumentals, that the band really let loose on, creating little groovy numbers that are perfect for a little two-step in the kitchen. They incorporate [...]
South Seattle's destination neighborhood is Georgetown, the rust-colored, industrial arts community slowly growing at a semi-gentrified pace. They even have a Via Tribunali now and the Miller Building along 13th has a bunch of new tenants. I do love me some Georgetown grit, but lately I haven't been getting down there near as much as I used to (confidential to Smarty Pants: save me a sandwich, please.) Lucky for me and for the rest of us, the Georgetown Music Fest is still going strong with its fifth installment coming up in nine days. The [...]

Quasi Hey Chicago! Tons of excellent shows this weekend including Quasi at Lincoln Hall , Sissy Mena at Martyrs , the Metal Haven Farewell show at Reggie's Rock Club and so much more! Lets get to it, shall we? Friday SISSY MENA I really enjoyed Sissy Mena's debut album Young Girl . The band is rooted firmly in the shoegaze/alt-rock [...]

Observing the DIY packaging Volume One is comfortably stored in, one has the distinct thought that Webelos may be an acoustic folk project, and not necessarily the experimental indie pop band that it is. The opening tune, "Another Nature Study" is an instrumental folk-pop tune featuring a prominent snare/cymbal mix and soft organ melodies. Hell, there are even finger snaps! It's not until "Yellow Is The Color" that we hear lyrics. By now Webelos have defined themselves as an out-of-the-box pop group true to DIY nature, [...]
