I don't know about you, but unfortunately I have like, responsibilities, so I'm in on this Sunday eve, hoping to heal the last remnants of hangover, so I made this down-tempo mix. It still rules, though. 01 Bitch Prefect - Marilyn Monroe 02 Weed Hounds - Beach Bummed 03 Sonny & The Sunsets - I Wanna Do It 04 The Meanest Boys - Strangest Things 05 Heavy Hawaii - Beacons 06 The Beets - Time Brought Age 07 Dead [...]

The tension builds...I bought way too many seven inch singles this year. I'm not trying to brag. It's a problem really. The seven inch is like crack to the record geek, a fleeting moment of pop perfection and then it's off to either flip the record or put on another one. This was a daunting task this year and I feel like I left out a lot of stuff, but a top 60 would have been too much and limiting it to 40 makes you have to really decide, what were your favorite singles of the year. Here are numbers [...]

Oh man, Shea Stadium's gonna be a partay tonight. New York's concert venues are pretty packed to the gills with fun things to do tonight, but as far as Friday nights are concerned, this show is where it's at. First of all, if you haven't been digging on Weed Hounds lately, you should probably give them a listen-over. They're definitely for fans of Pains of Being Pure at Heart mixed with some way scuzzier production and a little more edge. Sweet Bulbs go one shade darker on that lo-fi twee spectrum. Maybe two shades darker. Regal [...]

Ashley Turner Ian McCarthy performing with Conservative Man at Great Scott (05.21.2010) This post marks the beginning of our new "Guest Weekly Picks" series where we will be inviting a special guest to compile their own concert picks each week as well as asking them a host of relevant and irrelevant questions. Our inaugural guest, Ian McCarthy, has appeared on the Foundwaves Weekly Picks List list several times as a member of Conservative Man . [...]
Historically the week of live shows preceeding the CMJ Music Marathon is normally as light as it gets here in New York City. This year things are a little different as the week has shaped up to be a pretty solid one. King Khan & the Shrines is the highlight for us but there's a... Read More

Skating Away From The Cops by Weed Hounds Interview conducted by Sania TDOA: Since you guys are pretty fresh, let's grab some background info on you all. How did you meet and decide to start creating music together and what's the tale behind the band name? Laura & Nick: Well, Nick and I had been friends for a while and decided that we wanted to start some sort of musical project together because we liked some of the same bands. Nick had been in [...]

The Pale Saints first album Comforts of Madness still gets played in my house. Their second record In Ribbons does too, but not as much. I don't really count their third album Slow Buildings because it was made after Ian Masters had left the band and pales in comparison to their first two. Two recent singles that arrived in the mailbag this week kind of remind me directly or indirectly of Pale Saints. Neither one has a singer that can hit the crazy heights that Ian Masters regularly scraped in his heyday, but both captured a certain magic [...]

For those of you who followed our suggestions and are watching some great new bands at SXSW, we're glad we could help you. But here's the thing: there's a herd of new bands that require your attention. Many of the bands we've featured in the past, didn't have an album, let alone a label deal. But bands like Warpaint, The Soft Pack and others are now hotly tipped in Rolling Stone and the other major music mags. So, here's our humble offering: a smattering of new music that we think will be "the next big thing" [...]

When we last checked in with Weed Hounds , we remarked on their remarkable ability to sound like an early Slumberland underdog. They've released two new tracks to the series of interconnecting tubes, and we're wondering if their response tracks aimed at eradicating any remnants of twee. Or whether they're going for gold. I don't know the dude(s) behind You Aint Picasso well enough to know if someone...

You mention the Swirlies enough times and I am bound to listen. That's just how my mind works. I'm simple like that; you don't need to go much further. Sure enough Weed Hounds , along with getting heaping amounts of praise all over the web for their recently released demo cassette, have been likened to those legendary Bostonites more than a few times. The comparison seems fitting after getting a chance myself to sit down and listen to the four songs contained within the demo. While probably not [...]
Matt Skatterbrain linked to a good song yesterday that I thought I'd share with you guys. It's a track off Weed Hounds' new demo that has potential to be a crossover hit in all the key demographics might make your weekday a little more enjoyable.
