... One of the interesting developments that arose during the research phase of writing What Are You Doing Here? (out now via Bazillion Points ) was how many of the black men and women I interviewed or spoke with loved Pantera . While they might have not self-identified as a ‘metalhead’ they loved the band as the music had that sound: a bluesy groove that reminded them of the dusty vinyl records that their parents inherited from their parents, serving in some cases as a gateway into other bands and musical genres that incorporated [...]

What a weekend Boomslang was! Jeff Mangum , Jesus And Mary Chain , a lot of things at Doomslang I'm not familiar with! So many great things happened this weekend and I'm here to tell you about it. Let's kick it off with a day-by-day analysis of this very well put together festival we know as Boomslang 2012 . This is a long post, so read more below the break (just don't troll/comment TLDR): Day 1 - Thursday First up to kick off our [...]
On a rainy night in the Nation's Capital, fans converged on the Black Cat to get their fill of sludge and doom metal, courtesy of Sourvein, Weedeater, and headliners Saint Vitus. To begin the evening, Cape Fear, NC's Sourvein began with a small crowd which steadily grew as their set went on. They asked the club to turn the stage lights down, setting the mood for their dark, murky set. Full of thick, downtuned guitar tones, the band exerts maximum power with minimal effort. Singer T-Roy Medlin, while unleashing [...]
Here's a full set from stoner legends Weedeater shot at Saint Vitus Bar in Brooklyn, NY on September 25, 2012. Video by Frank Huang The post WEEDEATER live at Saint Vitus (Full Set) appeared first on Metal Injection .
Drunk Music Reviews is Caitlin Behle and John Sebastian. Caitlin reviews a show while progressively getting drunker, while illustrator John Sebastian turns the drunken reviews, which could be ridiculous, sloppy or just plain insulting, into a comic. Notes: The captions that end with @ drunkmusicrevws were pulled from their Twitter account during the show. Tweets ending with J are reviews from John, while tweets ending with C are from Caitlin. The chart at the bottom of every illustration shows the drink tallies for the night. [...]
It looks like I will be able to see Saint Vitus and Weedeater live in 2012, as Saint Vitus have announced a headlining US tour with Weedeater and Sovereign which actually kicks off tonight (9/14) in Little Rock, Arkansas. The Scion A/V-sponsored tour will run for 5 weeks, hitting every major market. The legendary doom-masters will also be releasing ...

After a few weeks off, following nearly three years of semi-constant touring, Cape Fear's sludge-slingers Weedeater decided they have been off the road long enough, and that it's time to go reap some more hard-partying souls. Set for the band to celebrate 4:20 on the road mid-tour, the newest endeavor will burn its way through a pile of East U.S... Read More/Discuss on Metal Underground.com

It's a Saturday night in Greenpoint, a still-Polish neighborhood smothered by hipsters and transplants orphaned by and priced-out of neighboring Williamsburg. My favorite part of Brooklyn is not actually living there, and this neighborhood is blessed with the city's worst train line: the G. Somehow, I make my way to Europa, a nightclub that not-infrequently [...]
Out via Relapse , here's a track from the new Hail!Hornet album, Disperse the Curse . This North Carolina sludge metal outfit features Birds of Prey's Erik Larson on guitar and Buzzov•en's "Dixie" Dave Collins on bass and vocals. You also might have caught another Colins-fronted band through one of my reviews earlier this year, Weedeater . Sadly, I thought the album was kind of inconsistent. But on "Beast of Burbon," much of what I love about Weedeater-grinding guitars, heavy riffs, and Collins' table saw vocals-is present in Hail!Hornet. Maybe I'll find this [...]
