photo courtesy of Shore Fire Media To many music fans Gene Ween is known as the lead singer of Ween and since the mid 19802s he and childhood friend Mickey Melchiondo (Dean Ween) have been performing under that name. These days, Gene (real name Aaron Freeman) is getting ready to release his debut solo album as Aaron Freeman called Marvelous Clouds . It is being released by Partisan Records on May 8th and was produced by Ben Vaughn, musician, producer and host of The Many Moods of Ben Vaughn, heard [...]

Aaron Freeman , AKA Gene Ween, is releasing his solo album Marvelous Clouds on May 8th on Partisan Records. Produced by Ben Vaughn, the album is a tribute to Rod McKuen , a singer-songwriter and poet who began his career in the mid-'50s as a newspaper columnist and poet. McKuen's most popular song was "Jean," which was originally performed by Oliver for the 1969 film The Prime Of Miss Jean Brodie . Freeman covers "Jean" on the album. Below, watch a preview video for Marvelous Clouds and a video of "Jean" performed by [...]

As well as being one of my favourite bands, Ween seem to pick some truly brilliant artists to design their gig posters. A simple search on Google pulls up dozens of truly awesome posters from over the years. Here are my favourite (non- Jermaine Rogers designed) three: Fox Boulder (2005), designed by EMEK . [...]

Here's a Ween poster I discovered today - by the ever brilliant Jermaine Rogers : Brooklyn based artist, Rogers is currently organizing a new archive of all his prints (that usually sell out very quickly) over on his website - but it's still packed with plenty of random prints and posters in the meantime - check it out here .

Everybody loves this little purple man. He can sling a riff smoother than silk. Call him whatever you like Artist, Maven or a pompous Perfectionist he kows how to write a song so if you make it sound like shit it's because you suck. Little Red Corvette MP3 by Montagna & The Mouth to Mouth from their CD L'avenir . First time I heard this it took me totally by surprise. I mean what's not to like about a really well done Prince cover right? [...]

Bobby Albert - Serving Hub City Rock from 1981-2012 Nobody knows the answer Why Bobby Albert Jr would one day wake-up on a cold January and decide The Court Tavern (124 Church St) would close it's doors forever. Maybe he got an offer he could not refuse - but I doubt it. Maybe the burden of a looming $60 thousand dollar bar license was just too huge an amount of hard swet and pride he was not willing to cough up one more time. The hole was just to big so he folded his hand. [...]

For the past 25+ years, Gene Ween has been one of the “brothers” making up experimental eccentrics Ween . Now, for the first time, he's dropping the pseudonym and going solo. Though his new album is being released under his given name, Aaron Freeman, the music’s not actually his. Instead, the 13-track Marvelous Clouds features Freeman paying tribute to the songs of poet/songwriter Rod McKuen . McKuen was a part of the 1950’s beat poet scene in San Francisco. From there, he rose to become an accomplished singer, poet, and songwriter, crafting songs [...]

The name Aaron Freeman may not be immediately familiar, but his pseudonym Gene Ween , should ring some bells. On April 10th Freeman will be releasing his debut solo album, Marvelous Clouds , under his own name. The album is interpretations of songs written by Pulitzer-nominated poet Rod McKuen. Hear a sample of the record here . Here's the track list for the album: As I Love My Own Jean [...]

Aaron Freeman will step out from behind the Gene Ween moniker to release Marvelous Clouds , a 13-song tribute to the poet and songwriter Rod McKuen, under his own name later this spring. A prolific writer, McKuen wrote songs for the likes of Perry Como and Frank Sinatra while compiling volumes of poetry, some of which earned a good deal of success in the late '60s. Hear a teaser of album cut "Jane" down below. Read More...

Do you like Ween , The Unicorns and various bedroom-pop-lo-fi-shenanigans? If so, chances are you might like Valets . Valets is musician/producer from Bloomington, Indiana. His tunes are made with a keyboard, various guitars, a Vocoder, a junk Line6 interface and a Sony Vaio laptop. He describes his music as "indielofipsychefunktronicalso dapopdecentness". Download his new mini-album, Blooming for free here . I [...]

Ween @ Fillmore Auditorium, December 29 - 31 It's a long drive from Chicago to Denver, about 16 hours. The payoff for avoiding car madness from mundane scenery? A New Year's Eve celebration featuring three nights of Ween at the Fillmore Auditorium in Denver. For a Ween fanatic it doesn't get much better than that. Ween transformed the Fillmore into brown town on December 29-31. Fan anticipation for the shows was off the charts for the band had not performed a New Year's show since 1998. [...]
Halloween and New Year's Eve are traditionally the two biggest nights of the year in the jam world as each band within the scene gathers their devoted fans from across the country for a musical celebration. It has been a colorful year of highs and lows for eclectic rockers Ween . The band entered 2011 on a low note with co-frontman Gene Ween's January meltdown onstage in Vancouver. Luckily Ween bounced back with a string of fiery festival sets, an acoustic tour featuring Gene and bassist Dave Dreiwitz, the release of the Caesar Demos and a sold-out Halloween show at the Hammerstein Ballroom in Manhattan . To end the year right Ween is invading Denver's Fillmore Auditorium for a three-night New Year's [...]

As we prepare to feast today I thought I'd post some songs about love and giving a big thanks to the Review Stalker readers, Twitter Followers, music fans and bands. All 3 of you know who you are so a sincere thank you! Finding good songs that are a true thank you was hard. Anyway, It was little over a year ago we went big time with the official RS blog domain. Everybody wants to own their own brand. Right? The unofficial one lived for many years on blogger. Not a huge leap really just more control on [...]
'Tis the season to be jolly, and all that. But if you'd rather pass the holiday season seeing some awesome bands than sitting inside gorging yourself on turkey and roast vegetables, then we've got you covered with this roundup of the shows that we'd love to be attending over the next month or so (if our budget extended to jetting all over the country to see them all, which sadly it doesn't). Anyway, have a read and let us know what's on your gig-going itinerary for the next month or so. We can make it through this together. [...]

Neil Young's Ohio, made famous by Crosby Stills Nash & Young, is a protest song referencing the horrible events at Kent State University on May 4th, 1970 that left four dead and nine injured. Recorded just three weeks after the fact, it was pressed to single and rushed to radio stations with the B-Side Find The Cost of Freedom. The Contestants: Artist : Anders Osborne & Big Chief Monk Boudreaux Album : Bury the Hatchet [...]

Once again we've got an all-video edition of Intermezzo as we highlight some of the memorable moments that took place both on Halloween and over this past weekend. Let's start with Z-Man's video of Widespread Panic covering Outta Mind (Outta Sight) from the encore of the jam titan's Halloween show along with Postcard, Porch Song and a fun version of Werewolves of London featuring the entire crew... Widespread Panic - Outta Mind (Outta Sight), Postcard, Porch Song, Werewolves of London [...]

Considering the inauspicious start Ween got off to this year in Vancouver , we didn't have high hopes for our favorite purveyors of brown in 2011. Yet the New Hope natives have persevered and continue to string together outstanding performances. The group's latest show took place at the Hammerstein Ballroom last night where all the members besides drummer Claude Coleman dressed as sailors. Claude apparently wasn't having any of that and dressed as Rick James. [Photo by Spoonman462 ] Ween pulled from every era of their lengthy career [...]
