Last weekend the lovely folks at Moogie Wonderland were kind/foolish enough to invite me to DJ once again. On and off over the course of six hours, I played the following songs. There was a lot of dancing, and one of these songs somehow resulted in a twenty person singalong. Awesome. 1. This Many Boyfriends - #1 2. Herman Dune - Lay Your Head On My Chest 3. Hefner - Painting and Kissing 4. Tigercats - Banned at the Troxy 5. The Hidden Cameras - Death of a [...]

A typical conversation between two friends, on the subject of an upcoming festival: "Hey man. I'm going to a festival this weekend" "Oh yeah? Who's playing? Anyone I know?" "Oh, a bunch of cool bands... The National are headlining." "Sounds awesome" "Yeah - I'll tell you what it's like." A couple of less typical remarks which crop up in a similar conversation specifically about Indietracks: "Um... nobody really. Like, nobody I've heard of anyway. Just like a bunch of twee indie bands. It's supposed to be an amazing vibe though." [...]
It's June, so it must mean it's time for the obligatory Indietracks compilation album. Sadly this year it won't be released on CD in an attempt to reduce costs, meaning you'll have to burn your own discs for the long drive up. On the other hand, as it's a download only, you can pay whatever you like for it with all proceeds going to the lovely Midland Railway Centre . Every year they put up with us descending on them, so it's nice to be able to give them a little something back. [...]
A little late out of the blocks on this one as BUSINESS has been getting in the way of important things like indiepop, but no matter. The first Indietracks bands have been announced! Who Jeffrey Lewis and The Hidden Cameras have both been announced as headliners. Also added to the bill are Math and Physics Club , Zipper , The Garlands , The Sweet Nothings , The Wendy Darlings , Next Time Passions and Very Truly Yours [...]
Here's why you're cool. It appears that our readers are more concerned with great music than hearing what the "cool kids" are doing. Some websites spent Friday giving you "exclusive" coverage of Them Crooked Vultures' (horrible) performance at Austin City Limits. Meanwhile, our interview with Jonneine Zapata was blowing up the TDOA servers becoming the "most read" article in the history of the site. Who held the previous record? Another little band who makes great music, The Wendy Darlings. In thanks for your love, TWD's sent us their new video for you to [...]
In addition to Hardly Strictly Bluegrass , this weekend also features the kickoff of a noteworthy Bay Area music series. The Deli SF and Gibson present the Stone Foxes Rock n' Roll Spectacle , featuring local band the Stone Foxes and a variety of other Bay Area bands of the classic rock and roll variety, and taking after the 1968 Rolling Stones Rock n' Roll Circus . This series starts this Saturday, October 3rd, and will occur every Saturday in October at the Hotel Utah. More information, schedule, and lineup after [...]

Can you imagine living in a world where only you believe in the magic of great music? Or playing music with an energy and pop sensibility only to be told it's time to grow up and give up childish things? Thank goodness for the French band The Wendy Darlings, who charmed us with their music and will make you believe as well. Ignoring the prevailing winds in France and the dearth of good popular music in our world, they fashion a tale of sugar kisses and pixie dust. Prepare to jump out the window and fly [...]

Wendy Darling beat away the rain and the chilly-ness by being pure a pure white light blazing through the speakers. Okay, so maybe that's embellishing a little, but the group was alive and fiery , and on such a chilly day, that alone is impressive. Wonderfully warming Wendy. Wendy Darling - Sic Endgame
Nostalgic albums - they cause the ear to tingle upon the first note of the first song and once soundtracked every moment of a period of your life. Call them crazy, but a group of local talent had the valiant idea of giving Weezer's Pinkerton a public genuflect at Bottom of the Hill tomorrow night with two more Bay Area acts: Wendy Darling and The Definite Articles (9pm, $10). If half-Japanese girls are your thing or maybe you're just tired of sex altogether, there's at least one song for you. The headliners will perform [...]

I used to love Casey Kasem. Somehow he managed to make listening to crappy top 40 songs, seem fun and exciting. Long distance dedications? Yes, please. We used to post a monthly roundup of our favorite music from the previous month. The problem is that we've been getting overwhelmed. Between the promos that labels have started sending us (sorry, I refuse to suck up to this Vampire Weekend side-project. Are we the only ones that find this even more boring than listening to A-Punk for the zillionth time?), and the demos random bands [...]

by Dave "Scout" Tafoya Saturday was a bit less exciting, at least at first. I woke up and went to meet Wendy Darling , one of the little bands I was excited to see. They were happy that someone was coming to see them play - it was raining and they weren't exactly the biggest act on the bill. Most everyone was sleeping off the String Cheese Incident set which closed the night before. [...]

[Happy 63rd birthday to the Rev. Al Green ... now for some sermonizing of my own:] As if the heaping helping of Monday night residencies don't have your concert-going plate full, some great touring acts are hitting town: U.K. dance-gazers Friendly Fires (whose self-titled debut was one of my favorite ablums of 2008) play the Troubadour, and Richard Swift [pictured], whose brilliant "The Atlantic Ocean" was just released last week, joins Vetiver for a show at the Eagle Rock Center for the Arts. ... The Wendy Darlings : We come with friendly Purposes ( LostMusic Records ) Can't think of another French band sounding like this before... Hailing from Clermont-Ferrand, The Wendy Darlings go for a basic trio formula with some sense of fuzz-pop guitar mangling, tempered (or not) by Saddam Suzy's gentle (or not)voice, reminiscent of those post-shoegaze noise-pop UK bands that partly saved music from Britpop boredom in the mid 90's (think Prolapse), all of this topped with some floating C-86 intoxicating triviality... This is the ultimate release by Lostmusic Records [...]

The Wendy Darlings It always amazes me that everyday there's still an opportunity to lift up a metaphorical rock on the internet and stumble upon something fantastic. Case in point, The Wendy Darlings – most likely named after Peter Pan's Wendy Moira Angela Darling and clearly influenced by early 90s indiepop, but sounding more like a janglier Bratmobile – have stolen my heart. For how long? It's hard to say, but that's not really important RIGHT NOW is it? All I know is I can't get their song "Get Up" out [...]
Continuing the series with a band that I know very little about, other than the fact that I really like all 4 songs I've heard. The lead singer sounds a bit like Regina Spektor, but with only half the accent. "Sic Endgame" definitely sounds like a demo, but it's a great song nonetheless. "Like Braille" is newer, and has a much fuller band sound. Check the rest of their music out on myspace . Wendy Darling - "Sic Endgame" Wendy Darling [...]
