Check out a new column I penned, 'Talk Talk', for Reverb about local music that includes: 16 Horsepower, Candy Claws, DeVotchKa, Git Some,Tennis, Wentworth Kersey, and Wovenhand. Phewwww. You can read the column here .
above via toothpastefordinner.com What is it that I am aware of and enjoying the world of music and music blogs? Glad you asked. Did you download the Sam Quinn session at Daytrotter ( HERE )? If so, congrats you are accepted into the inner circle. If not, get thee into the circle by downloading! Current favourite track is the "just a bit too late for the new album" Oceans, so let's listen: "Oceans" Did you see [...]

The UMS 2010 experience exposed me to the wonderfully talented Kal Cahoone & the Dirty Pretty. The crazy thing is that I had already been exposed to Kal's music via her time w/ Tarantella , but I didn't know it at the time. D'oh. Tarantella was a gypsy-tango inspired outfit that exuded the same energy the streets of Buenos Aires do on a nightly basis, but in North America. Obvs. The culmination of their live show, alongside Wenworth Kersey ( they hardly do live shows) is blossoming into an amazing Saturday [...]

photo from John Statz Bandcamp page Today I have a couple of advance bandcamp tracks from John Statz and Wentworth Kersey who have both been featured previously on the blessed pages of Slowcoustic - so why not get a jump on the new stuff? ~~ John Statz has some very decent tunes on previous albums (see both Our Love Was Made For Canada & Dusk Came Slow for examples) so I think there should be good things upcoming on "Ghost Towns" set for an August release. Find [...]
There's a slew of information on all things local today. PANAL S.A. DE C.V. has kicked off a Mid-West tour. The sample loving atmospheric instrumental band will be in Omaha tonight in support of their EP, "Cortometraje". Panal S.A. de C.V. -Linda Colegiala [mp3] PANAL S.A. DE C.V. Here we are at Day 12 (the last day) of the annual "Best of Blogger Crew" series and what a great year it was - 12 blogs in total including Slowcoustic participated and all came with game. I can't thank everyone enough who participated, so everyone please click on the sidebar widget to visit these fine folks at their fine music blogs. Now that I am choosing my official version of "best of", I have thought that this year seemed like it had a good share of EPs that were great. Hell, some were frickin' great. Hence I [...]

The support for local artists is unmatched by another source in the metro area. Radio 1190 will be releasing a 2 disc compilation of the area's greatest talents that includes, the Wheel, Pictureplane, and Wentworth Kersey to name a few. THE BEATINGS-"Late Season Kids" Coming on Sept. 15, 2009, is the 6th record by Boston's The Beatings , "Late Season Kids." I have to admit, I've never heard the band before this, but they're surprisingly good. The vocals are like a young, versatile Warren Zevon, and the music is like late '90s REM. Is this a fresh or innovative musical experience? No. Does that matter? Again, no. The songs are all well written and very well performed, and the album never gets weak. All meat! No filler! [...]

I have heard a bit of chatter in the music blogging circles that this year is pretty good for EPs. You know the "almost album", the "we didn't have enough material/had too much material" release. Also the "just too short for an full album", but a decent collection of 4-6 songs or so that need to be released. Honestly a lot of EPs are much better than full albums, they just don't get the weight or attention of the industry due to their size (side note: how did Tom Cruise make it as an actor??). Despite mentioning that [...]
"Song o' Day" is from the duo Wentworth Kersey's "(O)" album and is the opening track "Adore". It is a track that fits its title very well, it is a pining lament in true troubadour style. The duo of Joe Kersey Sampson and Jeffrey Wentworth Stevens make up WK and bring an overall Americana tinged psych-folk to the table. The music is something that would make a great soundtrack for a Quentin Tarantino movie (when he decided to make a serious movie). While I would say the sound is basically "folk" it is soo much more - it [...]

Last week, I blogged about LeE HARVeY OsMOND, who play Acid Folk. A similar genre would be Psych Folk. You can always Wiki if you are confused. Hailing from Colorado Wentworth Kersey play Psych Folk. Two dudes (Joe Kersey Sampson Jeffrey Wentworth Stevens) who meld acoustic instruments with atmospheric backgrounds. Been digging this song as a mellow-outer. More info here . It is true, I am delving into the fray (not the band, cuz that's weird) and putting out a Sunday Mixlist. It is almost a blogger tradition to put out playlists/mixtapes/themed musical collections. I tend to try and theme some (see ladies night/men's night), but sometimes I find it a bit of a chore to "theme" a list - then you get music that you might not have ever put on a list together, but because the title matches some theme - it all of a sudden is good enough to post? But maybe that is the idea behind it, [...]

Most Likely To: make you cry in public while listening on your iPod. I shouldn't be allowed to review this EP. I think when you fear listening to an album in public on your iPod - because you're afraid you'll start crying because it's so pretty - you forgo all ability to examine its technical aspects unflinchingly. This little EP and its sad melodies, simple message of heartbreak, and simmering production has slyly burrowed deep into my black little heart. But here I'll do my best to examine it. [...]
with Bad Weather California, Wentworth Kersey, Sorellina and the dancing Team Firefox Friday 18 July 2008, Hi-Dive, Denver by Linda Ruth Carter Cd release shows are always hold a little more excitement than any other. It's kind of like a birthday celebration. (New songs are born and here's this shiny document to prove it.) Friday at the Hi-Dive was definitely a celebration of Porlolo's second full length release, Meadows. This show was fun. If you read no further, just know that much is true. I've not kept it a secret that [...]
