Electric Boogie is my jam! I have been playing this record since I was about 16 and have loved every minute of it. B-boys go crazy for it, and why not - it's only the most awesome remix of Apache by the Incredible Bongo Band ever (Okay, Switch killed it too). Recently I heard Billy play it at The Barbary and people went nuts, so don't forget to drop this sleeper every once in a while. Enjoy! What's the best way to start your bleary work day? How about rolling around the office and poppin' wheelies in your desk chair to a blast of roller boogie? That's what I've been doing for the past month thanks to Milwaukee DJ The Fed . Via her music blog bounce/oz, you can sign up for a daily blast of Foxy Disco delivered fresh to your email inbox each weekday. You've already missed out on a dance floor freakshow, body movin', a groovin' update of the beat, and the forever funky "Double Dutch Bus". Since I [...]
As I've been delving more and more into the world of DJ culture, I'm finding myself fascinated with the origins of hip-hop's epic breaks and samples. So much funk, soul and R&B! I can't describe the feeling I get when I hear the old B-side to a James Brown single drop an intense drum break in the middle of the song, and sure enough, it's the same beat you know and love from a dozen of your favorite hip-hop artists. As such, I must share my quest for musical knowledge. After reading (and borrowing MP3's from) [...]

Breakin 2: Electric Boogaloo - Original Motion Picture Soundtrack Best. Movie title. Ever. I think that's a well known fact though. People seem to forget though that the movie starred the equally awesomely-named "Shabba Doo." People don't seem to forget that the movie is a huge pile of shit though. Great 80s soundtrack though. Sometimes I don't post stuff necessarily because I like it, but for the good of all mankind. this is one of those times. Don't get me wrong, I love me some Electric Boogaloo, but the main reason I'm putting this up here [...]

We gotta keep things moving here and for those who like a bit of oldness, this should fit the bill. I was reading Andrew Emery's column in HHC and he was harping on about how young Hip Hop fans don't listen to old rap music whereas young Rock fans do listen to old rock. I was obviously trying to address that problem before I read that but I do agree so here ya go: West Street Mob - I Cant Stop.mp3 The [...]
The West Street Mob are another one of these which have just vanished. It's pretty much only Grandmaster Flash off this album that's had any lasting significance, which is strange really; I guess these acts were just a snapshot of their time and place which seemed to sum a zeitgeist up. This couldn't be more true in the case of Break Dance/Electric Boogie. If you're under a certain age (I'm close), you could be forgiven for thinking breakdancing has always been a major deal, and in some ways it has. But until Jason Nevins' remix of Run DMC's [...]
