Quirky Bay Area avant-poppers Wet Illustrated released their "1x1x13 debut LP last year. It drunkenly stumbles from hook-filled basement pop to jittery art-punk and back again without feeling like a record trying to take on too many influences. Kind of sounds like three east-bay goof-punks trying their hands at the warbling psych-pop of the Ganglians. An infectious, posi-summertime vibe that has me aching for beach weather and daytime beers. Wet Illustrated - Gypsy Town Download audio file (Gypsy_Town.mp3)

Photos and words by Debi Del Grande So much around the internet over Parquet Courts and the album Light Up Gold . After watching the video of "Borrowed Time," I was convinced moshing and dancing would ensue at The Echo. Like a Fidlar or Ty Segall show. I was prepared for full-on madness in the best of ways. Had the show been all ages or they didn't bring a voo doo doll, this might have been the case. As singer/guitarist Andrew Savage noted, we were very still. Luckily, one girl came to the [...]

Wet Illustrated new single "Scorpio Wings" has all the typical recipes for the old garage rock (are we still as critics allowed to call things "garage rock" in 2013?) - fuzzy guitar, adenoidal vocals, a boom-bap cavalcade of tightly strung snare. Maybe it's a new year, and the overwhelming weight of fuzzed out San Francisco [...]
Brooklyn’s The Babies bring bi-coastal rock vibes to The Echo.

Wet Illustrated - 1x1x1 By Steve McGillivray San Francisco trio Wet Illustrated are unleashing their debut album 1x1x1 upon the world. Originally starting life as a Television Personalities cover band, the trio are one of several garage/punk bands coming from west coast USA. Will they stand out from the crowd, or will they end up lost amongst the feedback and reverb of all the other bands? The garage credentials are certainly present on opener 'Pete Jogs Poodle'. There's lots of tape hiss, the vocal [...]

Wet Illustrated's "Gypsy Town" manages to do what so few up-beat bands can do these days: balance propulsive chirp with strong song-writing and a solid core of, well, something else. "Gypsy Town" kicks off with eager smiles and overwhelming hellos. The vocals bust in and all of sudden your rushing down Wet Illustrated River trying [...]
