With hometown heroes Metro Area (Brooklyn, hey) headlining the first Discovery party of the year, along with friendly resident Free Magic and pal OCD Automatic filling in for a missing VDRK, the place was literally at capacity within an hour of starting, with a line down the block outside Santos Party House for nearly the [...]

This will be our last post this year with some kind of Christmas approach. And we must end it in style, with the most loved (and hated) Christmas theme ever, "Last Christmas" from 1984 by Wham! We've collected some versions of this cracker where actually all of them are really good versions. Really like the Holmes Price edit, the new version to play forthcoming Christmases. Wham! - Last Christmas (Holmes Price Edit) Wham! - Last Christmas (Irregular Disco Workers Edit) Wham! - [...]

Download five creepy Christmas songs to make your holiday a little darker.

Filed under: News , New Music , Exclusive Listening to 'New Chain,' the debut album from Small Black , is like waking up in a Wham video with a 104-degree fever. The sounds are familiar -- particularly if you're old enough to remember MTV's first decade -- but the songs are too murky and disorienting to qualify as neo-New Wave rehashes. According to founder and lead singer Josh Kolenik, the Brooklyn quartet owes its unique aesthetic to a particular [...]

Erlend Øye - Last Christmas [Wham!] | zs

Tired of the same old boring Christmas songs year after year? The same songs in the same style every December? Fear no more..... This is a Christmas mix with a little bit of a twist. Nothing too "out there" or but different enough to keep you from going insane with the sounds of X-Factor garbage or other annually released festive "songs" ringing in your ears. The mix starts off with an epic track from Mew and goes into some Christmassy pop and funk then we head into [...]

I know, I know we just posted about Matthew Kyle but we are in the holiday spirit and couldn't pass up posting a remix of Wham's Christmas classic "Last Christmas." Wham! - Last Christmas (Matthew Kyle Edit) by M.K. Bonus remix: One more remix of this track by Irregular Disco Workers. The Wham - Last Christmas [...]

ICHC I'm not really a Christmas person. I'm certainly not against it or a conscientious abstainer, at least not from its secular aspects, I just do my best to ignore it for the first couple weeks of December until denial gives way to blind panic when I realize I still have too much to do to the degree in which I do participate. Things end up so hectic that actually enjoying the season, whatever that means, is mostly out of the question. One thing the holidays are good for, though, are covers as everyone [...]

What if George Michael and Andrew Ridgeley of Wham! reunited? In a pub. On Christmas Eve... [via John Sakamoto ]

George Michael will reissue Faith shortly. Visit Holmes Price on SoundCloud. MP3: Wham! - Last Christmas (Holmes Price Mix)

photography by purpleplaid So things have shifted a bit here and looks like I'll be posting something every Thursday (other Paper Crane Collective folks have diff days). I'm super swamped with holiday prep (work & personal) and trying to beat off a massively terrible cold that came outta nowhere, to do any of my best of 2010 but it is coming! I really love Christmas! (not for the capitalist consumer greedy side of it) Unlike the rest of the population, I actually love hearing those Christmas songs playing everywhere...I even keep my radio [...]
Like This and Like That is the new column from Snobcast extraordinaire, Father Guido Sarducci IV. The procedure: Every morning (OK, maybe not every morning) Guido will snatch the first crisp, clean & new mp3 he stumbles upon, listen to it at least once, and then find an old song (ten years or more) for some good old-fashioned compare and contrast. The purpose: To draw a line between the modern and the out-of-date. The premise: To expose the kids to their past while also showing the unfashionable adults that there's great new music being made every day. [...]

In 1984, Wham! released "Last Christmas" as the flipside of the single "Everything She Wants" (which is, by the way, a pretty good song). I didn't pay much attention, having found "Young Guns (Go for It!)" to be silly, "Bad Boys" to be negligible and "Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go" to be one of life's greatest tortures. As the years passed, covers of "Last Christmas" kept showing up in my collection and the song finally grew on me. I still don't care for the original version by Wham! In fact, I would argue that the [...]
