Hot off the digital presses (the HOTTEST of all presses) I present to you What Laura Says' new live video for "Girl Not Gonna Leave". It was shot at their record release part inside Phoenix Arizona's famous and ulta historic Ice House back in May. Why is it so historic you may ask. Because it was a house filled with ICE, in Phoenix BEFORE air conditioning. Funny story, when I was typing the headline I accidentally typed "lice" instead of "live"... "Girl Not Gonna Leave Lice" lolz
I am really liking Unknown Mortal Orchestra, and I am really looking forward to seeing them at the Crescent Ballroom Oct 4th with What Laura Says and St. Ranger ( Tix ). One of my favorite new bands playing with two of my favorite local bands, that also happen to be two of my favorite bands regardless of geography. I hope someone gets the guys in Unknown Mortal Orchestra some oranges or at least a bottle of vitamin C because I would be super bummed if they had to cancel because of scurvy. I am joking [...]

image courtesy of Phoenix New Times It has been a long time coming and something that I have been dreaming and wishing for since we started this site in 2008. A truly bad ass music venue downtown! Sure Modified had it charms, but good sound, not smelling like shit and AC were not those charms, and the Trunk Space... let's just not talk about the Trunk Space. But news is hitting that the best and most wonderful Stateside Presents are finally fulfilling their destiny and opening up a venue [...]

To be honest with you. This list is very very long. Do I have time to listen to every single one of them? No! Did I omit some stuff that I just KNOW is going to suck? YES! Are there other ones in there that suck that I missed? Again YES! Do Battles, White Denim and What Laura Says all have new releases today? Also YES! Acephalix: Interminable Night Against Me!: Total Clarity Aidan Moffat & [...]
Today is a pretty great day. Not only is Talk , the new What Laura Says EP out today. But we are lucky enough to be world premiering their new video for "Oh, My Neighbor"! So if you fancy yourself a lover of awesome things, you have something awesome to add to your collection.

This baby sized album delivers a strong kick of chill moods and mellow riffs that beg you to unwind.
The weather was ideal, there was a beer truck tapped with New Belgium Brewery's Beers (among others), and the artists delivered. Yes, 'twas such a good time at the 2011 McDowell Mountain Music Festival , that I think that, over a week later, I've finally fully recovered. Of the three days of music on the main stage, I missed only one band - Friday's opener Paper Snowmen. Sorry Paper Snowmen, I'll make it up to you somehow. Day One [...]
One of my music resolutions for the New Year is to get my ass out on the town to see What Laura Says at least a handful of times. Here's a nice street-side performance at ASU...

Arizona band What Laura Says came out with a new album this year called Bloom Cheek . I've proclaimed my affection for this band in years past, but for some unexplainable reason, I put off listening to the latest album until a just a couple of weeks ago. My bad, my loss, my big whoops - because this is climbing right up into my upper tier of favorite albums this year (yeah, although reluctant, I think I'll put together a top 10 list, because that's what music nerds with blogs do, right?). [...]

There are a lot of ways you can spend the Friday before Halloween, but I tend to gravitate towards events that are both free and full of good music and cheap booze. So, What Laura Says playing with a few friends at the always awesome Yucca Tap Room will fit that bill quite nicely. There's no time on the flyer, but I'm guessing music will get started around 9 and go until closing time. This is a perfect way to start the evening before ending up at a certain legendary Phoenix houseparty that will leave you [...]

Bloom Cheek is het tweede album van What Laura Says , een band uit Tempe, Arizona. De groep deelde al het podium met onder anderen My Morning Jacket , Lou Reed , MGMT en White Rabbits . Heerlijke melodieën. Prima koortjes. En een tikkie experimenteel. MP3: What Laura Says - I Suppose What Laura Says op MySpace Subscribe in a reader

I was ready to write What Laura Say s off even before I heard anything from their sophomore album. I mean the band’s from Tempe, Arizona, a college party town that is the home of Arizona State Sun Devils. I’ve been there. My brother went to ASU and they are reputed to have some of the most well-paid college football players in the world (outside of USC.) Tempe is a town of western oddity - usually ten years behind the times; partial to country, mariachi and ranchera music; and always up for a college beer [...]
Local favorites A B & the Sea brought their retro pop to Cafe Du Nord last Wednesday as a part of the local showcase The Rumble . Two out-of-towners - So Many Wizards (LA) and What Laura Says (Phoenix) - kicked off the free (with RSVP) show, presented by a consortium of Noise Pop, Future Sounds and The Owl Mag. So Many Wizards describe their music as "bedroom pop," but I would add "late-night romantics" to that [...]
This month's Rumble starts strong and get better from there. Follow us on Facebook and Twitter for contests, MP3s, and links that don't make it onto the blog.
[Cheers to Amusement Parks on Fire's Michael Feerick on his birthday.] Top 3 places I'd considering going were I not going to thoroughly enjoy Admiral Radley and the Happy Hollows at the free Also I Like to Rock show at the Hammer Museum (consider that an invitation to join me; we can karaoke the mock-Schwarzenegger chorus of "I Heart California" together): ☛ Au Revoir Simone holds forth at the Echoplex. ☛ Wires in the [...]

Tonight marks another installment of The Rumble presented by Future Sounds, The Owl Mag, and Noise Pop with one of our favorite local Bay Area acts, AB & The Sea . Joining them will be psychodelic-rockers What Laura Says , and dream-pop act So Many Wizards . You can get in free when you RSVP via Sonic Living . Oh and there's Trumer Pils specials all night, so don't miss this one! Download 5 new A B & The Sea singles here!
Unlike most of the weeks of 2010 so far, this week's new releases are not stacked with big-time, highly anticipated works, but there's plenty of great MP3s to download online for free from new singles, LPs and EPs out this week. The LA band Fol Chen continue to explore their mysterious, sinister musical pursuits, building on [...] Related posts:Halloween Indie Rock Songs, Vol. VII: Atlas Sound, CYHSY, Band of Horses, Au Revoir Simone, My Teenage Stride & More Recent Releases We Almost Missed, Vol. IX: The Depreciation Guild, Jeremy Messersmith, The Delta Mirror, Fol Chen, Double Dagger Awesome [...]
