Dude's a Mystery by Molly Lambert Honestly, I don't know why Ryan Adams isn't making that VH1 money. He's kind of like the Robbie Williams of America, except it's even more embarrassing because he can't break in in his own fucking country. And it's not like he doesn't pander, he duets with people like Sheryl Crow and Adam Duritz. I mean can dude write an Oscar nominated song or something? I could see him becoming the new [...]

"With a sky blue sky, this rotten time wouldn't seem so bad to me now." I was fortunate enough to see the illustrious Wilco perform as the guest musicians on the even more illustrious A Prairie Home Companion (a fantastic Minnesota tradition) this past Saturday. As if I wasn't already running to the store to pick up Sky Blue Sky when it comes out tomorrow, I might just have to be there when the doors open. Exaggeration, I [...]
most of you have jobs that require the normal 9 - 5 attendance, but for the rest of us that dont fall into such a category day time tv leaves really something to be desired to say the least. actually, its down right depressing. i can only watch sportscenter so many times and i have seen just about every mythbusters and dirty jobs. so, when i tuned into the greg behrendt show one morning i was definitely pleasantly surprised. or maybe my standards are so low that i find his brand of talk show [...]
ok first things first. you would think that as a guy that spends 75 percent of his day online that i would have found out about this little piece of dbt news before today. i dont blame jason for leaving the mighty dbt cause quite frankly, if i were him, i would not have been cool with playing third fiddle to patterson and mike, as awesome as they are. in other jason news, his solo record sirens of the ditch is being released on july 1o on new west records. he is streaming three [...]

Barsuk records released the new album from Jesse Sykes and the Sweet Hereafter earlier this month, and its hard not to first be a little worn out by the lengthy album title (Like, Love, Lust & The Open Halls of the Soul) that follows an already long band name. However, once you digest that and move towards the music, its a much more forgiving process. The band that started as a duo of Jesse Sykes and former Whiskeytown band member Phil Wandscher began writing and playing together and later brought on the [...]
not in the much for idle, one-sided chit chat this fine evening. i am aiming to be in bed within the next twenty minutes. lame i know, but what the hell? here is a whiskeytown boot entitled drinking games. i happened to be rummaging through my cd books and lo and behold there [...]

Digging deep in the vaults today, kids. This 1998 show from the Mercury Lounge has been gathering dust for years as I thought the cdr was lost in a move some time ago; lucky for us both that isn't the case. Note the date - this is an interesting show for a number of reasons. Billed as a solo Ryan Adams gig more than a year before the official demise of Whiskeytown , the setlist is primarily made up of Whiskeytown tunes (some unreleased) plus a few Adams solo [...]

Watching England capitulate on the final day of the 2nd Test was both amusing and tragic at the same time. As the great Warnie weaved his magic, all but double-century maker Collingwood stood tall. The pain of last year's Ashes loss still lingers, and the memory of the Laxman/Dravid partnership still cuts deep. But today's epic comeback, undoubtedly one of the greatest ever, is to be savoured. Here is my little tribute (any excuse for a Ratatat remix eh?)... Love Is All - Spinning & Scratching [...]

It has rained for a few days and threatens to rain tomorrow - Ryan The relentless deluge continued through the shadow of the day. There were glimpses of grey clouds stepping before the darkest ones; And spaces lived between the drops, but none large enough for us. These were all proven to be grounds for our false hope For soon the sky gave way to the [...]

It's a shame more of the unreleased Whiskeytown material has not seen the light of day, in a remastered format, with better audio quality. Some of it is quite good, and like former founding member Ryan Adams' unreleased cannon , the majority of it is readily available with a little creative digging on the Internet. Here are some choice cuts that never saw an official release, but certainly could have stood up to some of the LP's tracks, if not eclipsed them. Related Article, [...]

Last weeks news of Ryan Adams (fantastic) bit of hip-hop, "Look Who Got A Website" - was most definitely not a surprise to the legions of his fans who scour the back alleys and dark corners of the Internet for scraps of his unreleased music (note: there is a lot of it). No, those folks would have been long aware of other instances of Adams blowing off steam in the studio with similar results. You'll notice his skillz on rockin' the mic are vastly improved in [...]

"Everybody grew up and turned into assholes."" The Damnwells I told you I was pulling out the big guns for part 2. Westerberg, Whiskeytown (Mr. Adams is my king of alt-country), and my absolute favorite band - the Damnwells. I tried to throw in a few tracks that hopefully the majority of you haven't yet experienced. Matt Mays has always gotten a great reception on my site, and is apparently huge up in Canada. No [...]

Get To Know My Friend Vol.1: Ryan Adams Yes i have started another regular segment, one through which i hope to educate many of you out there in cyberland. Basically, the concept is that i select one of my favourite artists and give you a basic bio and album rundown and review. Trust me, its [...]

Play it: Big Star, Small World: Big Star Tribute Play it: Other Big Star Covers This Big Star tribute album was lovingly compiled by drummer Jody Stephens back in '98 fresh off Big Star's reunion tour, but the label, Ignition, went under before it's release. Since that time two of the bands exist no more ( Afghan Wigs , Whiskeytown [...]
