Whispertown , the songwriting vehicle for Morgan Nadler that was originally known as Whispertown2000 and then The Whispertown 2000, has emerged with new music for the first time since 20092s "Done With Love" EP. And it's different. On her 2008 album "Swim," released via Acony Records (the imprint helmed by Gillian Welch and Dave Rawlings), Nagler framed her wistful ruminations in woozy folk. The first single from the forthcoming album "Parallel" album is neither particularly woozy nor folk; "Open the Other Eye" is an assertive synth-pop number featuring a gauzy web of vocals from Nagler, Maria Taylor and [...]

The initial installment of Buzz Bands LA's SecondTuesday series at Lot 1 Cafe was all about the warm vibe. In the intimate Echo Park room, Omaha expatriate Jake Bellows (top photo) debuted new solo material, teamed up with Morgan Nagler of Whispertown 2000 for a few songs and performed music from the catalog of his band Neva Dinova . L.A.'s Daniel Ahearn , profiled here last week, brought a full band to engage the crowd with songs from his new album "Long Way Home." And Judson McKinney of Judson & Mary [...]

As frontman of Omaha indie-rock quintet Neva Dinova , Jake Bellows made three albums of uncommonly poignant, dreamy folk music — two for the L.A. based Crank! label and one for Saddle Creak. He also collaborated with Bright Eyes' Conor Oberst on 20042s stellar "One Jug of Wine, Two Vessels," expanded and re-released last year. Now he's sought a change of scenery, having taken up temporary residence in Los Angeles the past five months. "The band has moved on in their respective career work, there are babies on the way, and we're separated by distance," he says, [...]

Silverlake Lounge never disappoints and Tuesday night was no different, as two mainstays in the FS musical family, CHASING KINGS and ALL WRONG & THE PLANS CHANGE engaged the crowd with staggering performances, once again proving to us just why we're fans to begin with. We really can't get enough of Chasing Kings , considering they blew up 3 Clubs for The Rumble in January and went with us to SXSW last month. Classic indie pop coupled with [...]

Tonight @ The Silverlake Lounge it's a 4-band line-up of local talent that has a couple of our favorite bands sharing the 'Salvation' stage > CHASING KINGS and ALL WRONG & THE PLANS CHANGE . The place should be stuffed, as WHISPERTOWN 2000 's Morgan Nagler plays a solo show, but they've gotten ink in everyone from Mojo, Q, Spin, NME, Uncut, Paste and Rolling Stone. Show starts at 9pm, cost is $8. alt=rss

The Whispertown 2000 - Restless Creaky huh? Like an old door frame. The Whispertown 2000 - apart from having a ridiculous band name also come from LA and sing a little jangly folk. If you're a fan of anything I post, you'll like this one. That's what I'm basing this on. Yeah. Download here . "Tug at my sleeve, I got a heart that leaves just like the winter do to trees"

On the OIW stereo this week, Whispertown 2000! Er, whispering their way into your town soon (sorry)... Whispertown 2000 were apparently brought together by Jenny Lewis (of Rilo Kiley and solo fame) which is a nice story. Their drummer is also "Smiths-obsessed" which is another nice fact about WT2000, and they've had lots of impossibly nice words written in the likes of NME, Mojo, Uncut, Rolling Stone... But let's cut to the important stuff, and that is that they actually write some ace [...]

It's not quite so mental this week on Edinburgh's live circuit. There are quite a few interesting gigs, but not all that many unmissable ones, so I think it might be easier to pick and choose a couple without overburdening yourself. Last week's strategy of driving to gigs in order to prevent excessive alcohol consumption proved extremely successful (until the weekend, but then the weekend is supposed to be for fun so bugger off, besides, it's not every day your label has an EP launch party) so I might just continue it this week. In any case, I have three [...]

Last week we shared the news that the Pixies' plans to celebrate the 20th anniversary of their epic album Doolittle with some European tour dates. This week in Pixies-related news comes word the band's bass player, Kim Deal, has announced plans to hit the road with her other band - The Breeders - this August. The band has lined up a 16 date run that includes a two-night stand at NYC's Bowery Ballroom on August 18 and 19, with Whispertown 2000 and New Times Viking splitting opening duties. [...]
LA based Whispertown 2000 are currently touring in Europe with our pal Maria Taylor but I just begun to listen to their sophomore 2008 release called Swim. Swim is an amazing example of indie rock with the ever rising new folk sound. In Old Times and 103 , they plug in playful pop melodies with sing-a-long style folk songs. Morgan Nagler is quite nicely backed up by Vanesa Corbala's vocals; track to track there's a good sense of freedom to the range they lay out. Music country folk and [...]

The Whispertown2000 are launching a tour of the UK this month. They have 2 album releases. Remember Rilo Kiley? Well, here's a bit of interesting history: A native of Oregon but raised in the City of the Angels (los angeles) Nagler teamed up with child actor, Blake Sennet. Sometime after, Jenny Lewis formed a band called Rilo Kiley in 1998. The same year Nagler also began writing songs and singing. In 2004, Nagler performed her songs before a live audience opening for The Elected which was Blakes Sennet's side project from Rilo Kiely. At [...]

NEW WHISPERTOWN VIDEO. Haven't been keeping up with our friends in the Whispertown 2000 lately, but rest assured Cannibal Cheerleader faithful, the LA-based quartet is alive and kicking. In fact, the band are just about to begin their first UK tour ever - hopefully they blog it in their overly addicting Tour Tumblr . The band's sophomore LP Swim was one of our favorites of last year and "From the Start" was a real standout track - check out the video for it below, directed by [...]
