Brink's ' This is Halloween ' & his Beetlejuice remix were my first good glimpse into dubstep's favorite holiday, but I haven't heard much more that combine the two so well. But finally just in time for Halloween I found Funk Hunters & SkiiTour's 'Candyman' remix. Not only does it chill to the core, but the dubstep is solid brass to boot. The Funk Hunters Genre: Ghetto Funk, Bass, Breakbeat Location: Vancouver, Canada Members: Nick Middleton, Duncan Smith Funk Hunters on: SoundCloud [...]
Get a little too drinky for the Bears win last night? Having a sleepy and boring Columbus day at work? Well, wake the fuck up, Chicago, and get your ass lit up by Running at the Whistler for CHIRP night. New to the Running club? Let's talk brutally fast and noisy, phaser guitar-riddled punk rock that sounds like that spinning-room sensation when utterly shitfaced. At times, they slow it down to a heavy, Sabbath-like crawl, but 95% of the time Running like to fly off the handle - and that's what makes them so good. Their [...]

When it comes to psychedelic pop, BigColour play by their own rules. Guitars are kept upfront and the group often integrates in doo-woop and "70s soul touches. Additionally, lead singer Brian Bissart's creeping, echo-laden vocals give their songs a lo-fi edge. Their latest release, June 20112s Your Body Doesn't Like The Decisions Your Brain Makes, Vol.1 , finds BigColour experimenting with warping melodies and crooked samples. "Jokes" swings with an early Flaming Lip-like looseness, while "Lampshade Talker" manages jerky guitars will still maintaining a ghostly groove. LISTEN: "Lampshade Talker" [...]

Houtakker Three reasons to put down your gin-soaked gummie bears and head over to the Whistler tonight... 1. Houtakker (Dutch for Lumberjack) is the new project by Pet Lions' synth-smith and guitarist Joseph Murphy. Houtakker strikes a mellow chord with its minimalist, sun-aged 602s pop style. Murphy's influence on Pet Lions is evident on each lingering guitar note and cathedral-esque organ groove in Houtakker's repertoire. LISTEN: " Hush-a-Lala " 2. Local [...]

And word on the Facebook street is this will be Dastardly's last show for a while. Don't miss it. LISTEN: " Exercises in Self Loathing " [...]
Paul Cary Shake off that Grammy, uh, hangover? And get to the Whistler for CHRIP Night tonight... 1. Formerly of Cedar Rapids rock 'n' rollers The Horrors , Paul Cary has since gone on to do his own thing. That thing? Oh, just some ramshackle garage blues that's carried by Cary's blue collar howl. A bit more haunting then the anything the Million Dollar Quarter might produce, Cary's approach definitely harkens back to a time to rock's adolescence. LISTEN: "Yes Machine" [...]

WATCH: Dastardly serenades Rose Marie
We just can't seem to get enough Dastardly . Luckily, the band has released the newest of six videos filmed on a farm in San Marcos, Texas (30 miles southwest of Austin). This time around the band gets together to cover the '50s-era ballad, first made popular by Slim Whitman, "Rose Marie." The band sound excellent and the vocals are top-notch as always. Catch Dastardly in person when the group sets up shop at the Whistler next Wednesday, February 22, with Kentucky Knife Fight.
