The swooning songs of indie-pop's latest contenders KO KO are constructed from the most basic of building blocks: falsetto vocals, lithe melodies, shuffling percussion and a bit of whistling. What brothers Ryan and Taylor Lawhon exhibit on their debut EP "Float" is admirable restraint; their first three songs do indeed have a buoyant quality that, unlike many purveyors of dream-pop, doesn't come from drowning everything in reverb or screeching toward the highest register. It's a change of pace (and owing to its summery feel, a change of weather) from the Lawhons' other project White Apple Tree , [...]
San Diego's indietronic duo White Apple Tree (WAT) win me over, quite easily, with this mid-tempo track from their 2nd album "Smooth Jaws". 37 Records' White Apple Tree is celebrating a 2011 MTV Euro Movie Award nomination for breakout independent German film, Kokowääh. WAT's hit single, "Snowflakes," is featured in the film and appears on the official soundtrack for the movie. The film's buzz helped " Snowflakes " reach the Top 10 on iTunes Deutschland, while the soundtrack reached #11 on Amazon Germany. You'll be hearing more from White Apple Tree here on Like Sugar soon! White Apple Tree - Passed Out At 9:30 am last night I threw up. It was dark red, like the wine I drank. I hadn't vomited since Mattro's bachelor party a year and a half prior. I'm an alcoholic; I know that. Most nights I can't sleep without a few drinks to calm me down. I rarely get through a shift at work without a stiff glass. My roommate is a cocktail snob. He's helped me branch out beyond Jack and Cokes into the realm of Old Fashioneds, Tom Collinses, Between the [...]
Their name is White Apple Tree and new wave indie is their game. (read... indietronica). This So Ca five-piece broke into the music scene in 2008 with their hit single "Snowflakes" that appeared on CW's Gossip Girl . The guys have passed us their latest single, which they are giving away for free, called "Passed Out." The track will make it onto the bands upcoming EP, Peach Ha t, which will be available for free from Amazon in October. What I'm loving about "Passed Out" is the watery xylophone stuff going on in the [...]

Hailing from Northern San Diego, White Apple Tree has created a unique and refreshing take on modern post-punk and synth-rock music. The band was founded in 2007 by Ryan Lawhon (vocals, guitars, and keyboards) as a solo project, and would later include his brother, Taylor Lawhon (keyboards and vocals), and Stefan Mac (drums and vocals), with the intent to bring a new sound into the local music scene. After recording a five song EP, Taste the Celebration , that was produced by analog purist Ronnie Martin ( Joy [...]

This track is from The White Apple Tree's first album Velvet Mustache . It's a smooth rock song with a little electro mixed in. At some points it reminds me of The Pixies (the beginning, the haahhhhaa's). At other times it sounds like a Muse song that never breaks. I'm not sure how I feel about this song. What do you think? Oh shit Shakira is shaking around on TV, gotta go. The White Apple Tree - Broken Bones
