Austin garage-rockers White Denim have released two songs recorded during the sessions for their 2011 EP Takes Place In Your Work Space . "Darlene" is a take on '70s honky-tonk, transforming the genre's usually-sullen soundscape into something quaint and adorable with an uptempo guitar and howling harmonies. Less joyous, "Gas On F" continues the honky-tonk flirtation, adding in the wail of a arena-rock solo and more deliberate electric keys for a tune in the true spirit of the genre's depressing worldview. Stream and/or download them both below (via Gorilla vs. Bear ). [...]

White Denim Album: Daytrotter Sessions (Buy) Label: Downtown Records White Denim - Drug Tweet

Last year was my first Bonnaroo , and I knew as I left the arch still dazed by Explosions in the Sky's performance that I would return for the 2012 installment. And it didn't disappoint. Being a little more well-versed this year in what to bring (water water water water water..and glowsticks) we packed up the car and headed on the 9-hour drive to Tennessee. DJ Kligz made some killer flower crowns for everyone: Thursday, [...]

For those whose religion is music, the church doors were open this past weekend as North America’s most hellacious music outing Bonnaroo scorched the famous farm grounds in Tennessee for its 11th consecutive year. The Bonnaroo cliches: Flaming weather. Too many sweaty bros. No shade. Too much music. Bonnaroo said "suck it" to all of that this year. [All Photos by Kevin Fuller ] When people think of Bonnaroo, they think of hot, hot heat. Face-melting, soul-crushing [...]

White Denim Mix It's impossible to create a White Denim "hits mix" on Spotify without access to their amazingly awesome material from Exposion , Workout Holiday , or even their RCRD LBL EP ; however, this week's HDPP features my favorite WD songs that are currently available. These dudes are some of favorite, genre-bending jammers making music today, and if you ever have a chance to see their impressive live show, do it! Hear it by simply clicking here . [...]
After years of seeing White Denim in Austin, it's good to catch them outside their sphere of mega-stardom. Turns out that these guys are wildly popular everywhere! They've added a fourth member since I last caught them. My initial reaction to an lineup increase will almost always be negative, but they quickly won me over [...]

photos by Dana (distortion) Yavin Kendrick Lamar/Alabama Shakes [Kendrick] Lamar hails from gangsta rap central: Compton, Calif. But instead of directing his anger at the police, women or outsiders, he criticizes himself and his environment, and he projects far more ambition than victimization. One song, "She Needs Me," praised a career woman-a rare creature in hip-hop. Mr. Lamar uses hip-hop's love of raunch and brand names (especially fashion labels and upscale alcohol) as teaching tools.
