Thanks to David Schultz for keeping us posted on the action at SXSW in Austin. Saturday, March 17 There are several constants about the last day of SXSW . As it always falls on Saturday, the streets, especially Sixth Street, become mobbed with people that descend upon the downtown area because it's the most exciting thing in town on a warm weekend night. [The Roots at Mohawk - by @phillyinquirer ] Not only are [...]
South by Southwest 2012 offered an orgiastic selection of music, too bounteous for any one person to digest. Buzz Bands LA contributing photographer Scott Dudelson made the rounds all week and hit some of the festival's buzziest artists — from everyone's darlings, Alabama Shakes (top photo) to swoon-worthy songstresses (Fiona Apple and Norah Jones) to L.A. favorites (Soft Swells and Jenny O) to indie favorites (Built to Spill and White Denim) to re-emergent veterans (the DB's and Billy Gibbons of ZZ Top). Here's a sampling of what he saw. Concert photography by Scott Dudelson
In fashion, white denim can be a tricky look to pull off. Fortunately that is not what we write about here – at ThisBonusTrack, White Denim is always in. A four-piece rock band from Austin, Texas, White Denim is equal parts psychedelic, indie, blues, and kick ass. Their most recent release, entitled simply D, won them high marks from influential music blog Gorilla Vs. Bear and an opening spot on Wilco ’s tour. It is easy to see why the praise keeps coming in when listening to their song [...]
The first day of SXSW 2012 started off drowsy and jet-lagged but was invigorated and perked up by the sights and sounds of downtown Austin. Dismounting the R&R Shuttle Bus, I scouted a few parties and giveaways, including the Vintage Clothing Arcade, where Dubstep shook the walls of the room housing threads from the 60s-80s, before heading to the JanSport Party at Mohawk. Kicking off the day, Nashville's Fly Golden Eagle got the groove going with a seductive mix of R&B, reggae, and pop-rock. Next, Brooklyn's pride and joy, Bear Hands synthesizer-driven, punky rock brought the [...]
Over the last 14 years, Pickathon Music Festival has grown into a premiere summer destination for music lovers and performers alike. Zale Schoenborn started the scrappy festival with his wife, family, and some friends, and a continued family-run mentality has kept it a unique experience. Situated on Pendarvis Farm outside of Portland, OR, Pickathon’s five core organizers have designed unparalleled sustainability efforts and a community atmosphere that has musicians and fans returning year after year. With another indie-all star lineup, neigh perfected greening practices, and their projected first-ever sell-out, this year might be the festival’s finest yet. [...]

Tweet vaso link With the Grammys generally celebrating the worst that the music industry has to offer last night, I found solace in White Denim. I went back and listened to Last Day of Summer and Fits , and dabbled in some Exposion as well. And then I ran across this live version of "Street Joy" (from their 2011 album D ) on the band's Soundcloud page. I've been dying to see White Denim [...]

Hello friends and others. I am off on a mini-vacation tomorrow (see above picture). When we get back from Mexico the plan is to finish packing up our house and move to Vancouver...finally. As a present, here is a playlist that I will be listening to while sitting by the pool, eating tacos, drinking chi-chi's and playing some serious Scrabble. Till then... 1. SXSW Roundup
Missy Prince I just got back from my first SXSW, and I'm not sure I will ever be the same. At least, my liver won't. But really, it was my heaven--live music on every block, food trucks galore, and a never ending supply of cute scruffy boys in well-fitting jeans. But while those last two were nice perks, let's talk about the important thing here: the music! I went to Austin with a stacked
