A new series comprised of music dug, then forgotten, remembered, possibly forgotten again, re-remembered, and now shared. Throwback California band The Allah-Las have setup a radio series dubbed Reverberation where they string together crate-dug gems into 9 to 12 song capsules. Hard to find rarities, overlooked classics, the occasional unreleased Allah-Las jam, and newer treats from White Fence and Sonny Smith all flow neatly from one heady space into the next. This week they reminded me of how much I dig Robyn Hitchcock and [...]
On this edition of Audiography, we feature reviews of the latest albums by dreamy duo Beach House, producer supergroup Garbage, Best Coast's sophomore release, and psych rocker Tim Presley and his project White Fence. We also feature a conversation between Paul Saulnier, one half of Canadian pop noise duo PS I Love You. We talk about the duo's latest album, Death Dreams , from its expansive sound to the dreams of mortality that informed the effort. We also talk about the band traveling outside the confines of their small Canadian hometown for the first time and the band's prolific EP releases. [...]

Lo-fi rock project, White Fence has released a new single for 73 on Sexbeat records. The song has plenty of trippy, nostalgic vibes to offer; however, the sentiments feel a bit sour. "Green Ballon" seems to simultaneously celebrate and parody the idea of psychedelic rock & pop from the 60s, embracing the sentiments of both the Beatle's Revolver and Zappa's We're Only In it For the Money . There is also a nice echo effect put on the vocals providing a density to the song that directly accents the old school psych rock feel that the track aims for. This is the [...]

by Andrew Frisicano Ty Segall @ Webster Hall (photo by roedood) Of the handful of times I've seen Ty Segall live (admittedly only a fraction of his shows in the city), his set at Webster Hall was without a doubt the best. People often talk about performers feeding off the energy of the room--that interaction was palpable between Ty and crowd Wednesday night. The band pieced together a front-to-back set of rockers, and the front [...]
Garage-rock's secret recipe has always been one part loving memory to two parts imperfect recall. The best stuff misremembers what it enshrines, producing a jarring little chamber of echoes that plays upon beloved memories while confusing them-- I love this song/wait, is this how this song goes? Ty Segall and White Fence's Tim Presley are masters of garage-rock's indirection game; their

The word "ambition," and its grammatical derivative, "ambitious," gets bandied about a lot with musicians, but it's only really fitting for a few people. Jack White? Maybe, but he's doing his Jack White blues thing. Robert Pollard? Yeah, because he writes 100 songs a day. Tim Presley? Absolutely. Who is Tim Presley? He's part of the new 602s psychedelic garage push coming in from the West coast, which includes garage rock god Ty Segall. Presley's project, White Fence , has released its second album, Family Perfume Vol. 2 . It's the second half of an ambitious 29-song [...]
Timothy Presley garnered some much deserved love and respect as a founding member of Darker My Love. As White Fence, he has been very busy indeed with his third release under that moniker this year. Unfortunately, it sounds like he should have slowed down a bit. Read more »

There's something happening here. Today's music scene of mutated and fractured genres has delivered us a treasure trove of sonic wonder, yet there's something absent from it. That missing ingredient is a sense of community. The show at Chicago's Lincoln Hall on May 10th brought together a shockingly unpretentious crowd that was there not to be seen, but to experience the ghosts of rock history through a lineup of garage rock loyalists spearheaded by a guitar-wielding, wild-haired San Franciscan named Ty Segall . The main attractions were no doubt White [...]
Ty Segall and White Fence figure prominently on my growing list of favorite albums this year. White Fence, fronted by psychedelic guitarist/songwriter Tim Presley , released the first half of what will be a 29-song album called Family Perfume Vol. 1 & 2 last month. (The second half will come out Tuesday.) Segall will release a new album, Wave Goodbye , in late June. Finally, Segall and White Fence just released a collaborative pysch-garage gem , Hair . Segall, White Fence and Presley's [...]

In this edition of Audiography, we begin on a somber note; Len Comaratta offers his own tribute to Beastie Boys' Adam Yauch by sharing a personal story. Shortly after, the podcast's regular programming continues with audio reviews of the latest releases from Ty Segall and White Fence, Fixers, as well as former Fleet Foxes drummer J Tillman's Father John Misty. We also speak with Courtney Taylor-Taylor, leader of Portland's own The Dandy Warhols. After working in the business for over 20 years, Taylor and the band returned last month with their eighth studio effort, This Machine . Both Comaratta [...]
