This week's Drake's Take may be a little bit late, but it's chock full of super-sized goodness. -ed. Damn you week of March 9 new releases.... why must you have so many noteworthy so as to make me choose just a couple. Because there are so many, I'm profiling more and giving less space to each as a result. There's a greatest hits release from the newly reunited Pavement ; the Danger Mouse/James Mercer collaboration debut Broken Bells ; along with new releases from Ted Leo, Liars and [...]
Technology may by hurting the sales of recorded music, but Sunday night at Holocene it gave legs to three adventurous and starkly contrasting live performances. It was the album release party for White Hinterland 's widely acclaimed Kairos and along with a performance by band members Casey Dienel and Shawn Creeden, two solo acts also took the stage—Cole Milner and Alexis Gideon. While the musical styles varied throughout the night, there nevertheless was one constant: the foot pedal. Specifically, looping pedals, which the acts showed their affinity for throughout the night with plenty of tapping on and [...]

This day marks the beginning of sophomore year spring break. What have I done so far? This morning, Alex y yo went to Diversity Thrift on Sherwood. I'd never been there before (sin); I'd only ever seen the truck and the rainbow building. I did not know that it's completely within biking distance from me. Or that it's awesome. I lifted seven books for a buck each and a fucking saweeeeet Spectra System Polaroid camera for three fucking dollars (yes, three fucking dollars). It was rather dusty (both the camera and everything in Diversity, really) when [...]

I was hoping that good weather was finally making its way to NYC. Turns out, I was wrong. I kid you not, the wind is howling from my window right now. The rain hasn't showed any signs of weakening as well. Getting home last night was actually a real drag. A 3 block walk seemed like forever. White Hinterland is a Portland, Oregon-duo composed of Casey Dienel and Shawn Creeden. This is the first track of theirs I've come across. They're releasing their third album, Kairos some time this year. Icarus is the first single from [...]

With so many high-profile albums out this week (and this month for that matter), it once again makes for an increasingly difficult task of figuring out what to spend your hard-earned cash on. First off is Broken Bells , the highly anticipated collaboration between James Mercer, lead singer and guitarist of The Shins, and Brian "Danger Mouse" Burton. I've yet to hear this one myself, but there's more than enough reason to give this one a shot just solely on the talent involved alone. There are also some new albums from the likes of The Knife [...]

Damn you week of March 9 new releases.... why must you have so many noteworthy so as to make me choose just a couple. Because there are so many, I'm profiling more and giving less space to each as a result. There's a greatest hits release from the newly reunited Pavement; the Danger Mouse/James Mercer collaboration debut Broken Bells; along with new releases from Ted Leo, Liars and a crazy interpretation of Orpheus from Anais Mitchell. Other new releases I would have profiled nearly any other week include ones from Gorillaz, The Besnard Lakes, Frightened Rabbits, Jason Collett, Miles Kurosky [...]
![[VIDEO] White Hinterland - 'Amsterdam'](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/2394489_lg.jpg)
A world of polygons, gradients and other pointy stuff is all that is present in White Hinterland 's latest video for her latest single "Amsterdam" - that doesn't mean that all is as it seems, though. I've really just recently come across Casey Dienel's (aka White Hinterland) work, but I can say I'm well already within her tight musical grasp. Who couldn't love a voice like that? White Hinterland's sophomore release "Kairos" is out now via Dead Oceans Records.

White Hinterland- Kairos To make up for a lack of quality releases last week (and lack of an f/k HH), we were blessed with a number of great ones yesterday, which makes this week's HH quite super. Out of the bunch, I've been listening to a lot of White Hinterland's Kairos more than the others. It's simply beautiful and spellbinding, and I love it. Having said that, there seems to be an album this week for everyone. With follow ups [...]
This White Hinterland video is very reminiscent of this clip from the Star Wars cartoon where Anakin Skywalker goes to some snow planet and hallucinates, seeing his future. Except that didn't make me fall asleep halfway through.

When Casey Dienel and Shawn Creeden picked the name White Hinterland, maybe they had their reasons, maybe it just sounded cool but it's definitely appropriate. A hinterland is often an area of rural land separated from urban areas that is often also tied very closely to the city. In other words, a place of solitude and peace that knows it's roots. It's all too fitting with White Hinterland's music. Kairos sounds airy and expansive, free and tranquil. Separate from the hectic and complicated urban lifestyle, yet it utilizes R&B beats and vocals that keep it's feet grounded in [...]

white hinterland : icarus white hinterland : no logic

Two of my favorite albums of 2010 were released today: Free Energy's anthemic nod to the '70s, Stuck On Nothing, and White Hinterland's eerie pop gem, Kairos . Grab Stuck On Nothing now for just $4.99 for a limited time at Shockhound and Kairos on vinyl via Dead Oceans or digitally everywhere else. Didn't know it was possible to be more in love with White Hinterland , and then along came this cover (via drownedinsound ). A dreamy haze washes over Timberlake's track, and makes it their own. And now, the sweetest part of all, they're celebrating an album release today! Go grab it here . White Hinterland - My Love (Justin Timberlake cover)
So I never said I was first on the spot when music gets announced or promo'd but there are some pretty decent tunes that are new to me that I am spinning, so I thought I might need a Monday playlist. No real connection other than the fact that I am listening to each individually and not part of the album (except for maybe White Hinterland) or any sort of back catalog - all individual tracks to me over the last week or so from the ol inbox. "The Darkest Side" [...]

It nearly feels like spring here in New York, and its ever so much warm in thought with these Portland, Oregon darlings, White Hinterland . Their cover of Arthur Russell's Lucky Cloud is so angelic, it's as if the sky was singing. They are touring worldwide, making stops from Portland to Amsterdam! Hence, I already know where I will be spending my birthday this year! Make sure to listen to my other current addiction Icarus. Which is a single of their coming LP album Kairos (which in Greek means, the opportune moment) debuting March 9. [...]

My poor little music blog is having trouble keeping up with all of the amazing music that is coming my way...best sort of problem to have, I know. I have been listening to and loving the new White Hinterland album for like a week now, and I haven't gotten around to blurbing about it yet. Casey Dienel's precious vocals soar through the atmospheric, almost trip-hoppy at times, soundscapes on the new record, 'Kairos.' It's sort of hard to break this one up and just play one song because the LP flows so perfectly when listened to in long [...]
