Greetings readers and viewers! Wow, it's good to be back at (the hypothetical) Cluster 1 headquarters. As Media Specialist, sometimes it is required to go to the source and create some of that media ourselves. After a journey to Sasquatch! with our staff, I have returned from shooting videos to finding and posting them here for your viewing pleasure. So, it's good to be back, but make sure you check out all our footage from Sasquatch! as well. Without further adieu…here's what's new. Premieres: W-H-I-T-E – [...]
Just a little over a year after his debut LP Sunna hit the masses, W-H-I-T-E (aka Cory Thomas Hanson) reemerged with the sophomore album Twin Tigers this past March. The album's latest single "Liquid Skull" is more of what Hanson has become known for - a combination of light, soothing vocals and atmospheric melodies that puts one at ease almost immediately after the sound hits the eardrums. However, the video for "Liquid Skull" is an entirely different story. More of a stark contrast than complimentary, the pseudo-metaphysical visu als seem almost rough (think mid-to-late '90s video game graphics) in comparison to [...]

Frank Yang I'm not sure what purpose Barcelona's Parc del Forum, a fairly massive, considerably paved waterfront park on the edge of the city, is used for the rest of the year – it seems to built up and out of the way for just hanging out in – but for one weekend in May, at least, it's a pretty terrific spot to hold a music festival. Some more grassy spaces would be welcome and being long and narrow, it can be a haul from one stage to the next, but when you realize you're seeing a [...]
Antone's is a beat off the beaten path for an indie music fan. With White Lies and Asobi Seksu coming to town, it seemed a strange venue to play host the popular Brit-pop/Indie bands. But host they did and the fans were happy to fill the space. It was a young crowd, all ages for sure. New fans for AsobiSeksu were earned. White Lies cemented fans' loyalty. Jump it. I have seen Asobi Seksu a couple of times now, but always at SxSW mired in sound checks and gear hauling. [...]
Recordemos:
I owe White Lies a massive, massive apology. I just wasn't feeling 'Ritual' at all when I reviewed in January. However, I can now vouch that these songs sound absolutely amazing live, and the band deliver them with such intensity that afterwards I felt like I was charged up with thousands of watts of energy. They were that good. First up though were Philadelphia's Sun Airway ; I just wasn't feeling them. The first song they played had a programmed drum track, but [...]

After being snowed out of their first New York gig of the year at Highline Ballroom earlier this year, White Lies rescheduled their sold out show at the massive Terminal 5 last night. Without having any warm up gigs for their new album Ritual , I honestly think it was a bad venue choice... singer Harry McVeigh even joked early in the set "we didn't expect so many people tonight!" From that moment on it was the band's goal to move the very diverse crowd, mostly unfamiliar [...]
Wednesday, May 18, 2011 In the great British shift from a field of predominantly finely fettled folk to darker pastures of moody, mercurial music, White Lies was one of the primary groups commanding the new wave. For those lucky enough to be in Austin and it's immediate beyond, the trio is set to take the stage at Antone's next Tuesday, and despite being the headliner, I feel as if there's a need to vet for the group over their opener - the already well-applauded Asobi Seksu. After making quite a [...]

MP3(s) of the Day #340: White Lies
A review of White Lies ' blinding show in Washington will be posted tomorrow afternoon. But before you that goes live, why not download these two live versions of 'Bigger Than Us' and 'The Power and the Glory' from the band's album released in January, 'Ritual'? They come courtesy of Los Angeles radio station KCRW, who has played host to many of TGTF's favourite bands. (Read Mary's review of the album here. )
