We are going to take a trip south of the border today, visiting places that conjure up painful sporting memories. First we have Philadelphia. One of the first Steelers games I ever went to I scalped a ticket and ended up sitting next to the dude that dressed up like the Eagle. People pelted him (and me) with trash and plastic bottles. Not cool. What is cool however is long time herohill fav and Philly outfit, Hezekiah Jones . Driven by talented front man Raphael Cutrufello, we've been lucky enough to get Raph to record us [...]

Earlier this week we received a copy of a simply lovely acoustic EP, A Face Made Of Wood, by a band called The White Pines. In fact this is mainly the work of one Joseph Scott, who has also been recently touring as an auxiliary member of Cotton Jones (who we also posted about a little while ago here).White Pines began as a secondary outlet for Joseph. His primary band Canada, went on a much

I don't know why it has taken me so long to emerge from this long, mind numbed slumber. I'm not sure I have in fact fully emerged, to be honest. But even if this is just taking a small peek at the world to be followed by a return to hibernation, I feel I got an odd mixture of icy-warm wake up shower that can only do good. Winter is still a little while longer, but some of its essence, the chilly white snow, misty morning breath and a blazing fireplace, is present here already. Made [...]

I have heard a bit of chatter in the music blogging circles that this year is pretty good for EPs. You know the "almost album", the "we didn't have enough material/had too much material" release. Also the "just too short for an full album", but a decent collection of 4-6 songs or so that need to be released. Honestly a lot of EPs are much better than full albums, they just don't get the weight or attention of the industry due to their size (side note: how did Tom Cruise make it as an actor??). Despite mentioning that [...]

Sometimes, a little DIY ethic can go a long way. In this case, it went as far to bring over 20 folk music acts from across the USA for a two day, all night long festival of music, bonfires, camping, and debauchery. Conceptualized by Philadelphia's own Hezekiah Jones ( Raphael Cutrufello ) , and organized with the help of many in the Philadelphia music community, Miles & Maggie Fest was an astounding success. Considering the true DIY ethic involved in putting it all together, the attendance and talent line up rivaled that of some more well known and [...]

Basement House Show Style [Local! Music! Friday!] ! Tell me...what is this Local Music Fridays? Back when I lived in Ann Arbor, my friend Travis played a show with a band called That's Him, That's the Guy! After the show (which I missed), T-Rav (that's a pet name) insisted that I check them out. Life got in the way and I never did. Fast forward to 2007ish, when Joe Scott started appearing in my social circle and I put two and [...]
