They say that indie bands are the equivalent of deer in the headlights when it comes to TV show appearances. They also say that it has become trendy to feature them on those very same shows in the eyes of network producers. But hey, either way you look at it, being on TV is [...]

I know gas prices are outrageous, but not to worry, the bands are doing the traveling for you. Check out these shows playing in both DC and Philly over the next few days: Former Test Icicles member Dev Hynes bring his new side-project, Lightspeed Champion through the area. Huge in the UK, it is bound to be a big hit over here. They are joined by singer-songwriter Adam Green . You may know of him from his time with the Moldy Peaches and the Juno [...]
Station 4 : Tuesday, May 20 - 5:00 doors $20 The presence of the symphonic metal giants in Arch Enemy playing a small club is awesome enough, add to that mammoth Dark Tranquility, a potato, some carrots, and bam, you got a metal stew on baby! The Greek powerhouse of Firewind along with Divine Heresy both round out the bill, giving it more of a feel akin to that of a stadium-sized rock show (or at least the Myth) than one at a venue more suited towards garage rock bands. Pack your bags, [...]
First off for anyone who hasn't heard the Wolf Parade news... Their album will be released on Sub Pop on June 17th!! It was recorded and engineered by drummer Arlen Thompson. The cover artwork will be a collaborative effort between Matt Moroz and Elizabeth Huey . The album is still untitled, but here is the tracklist and an Mp3 of California Dreamer... Until we stumbled upon this, we'd forgotten that The White Rabbits brought a video crew with them when came to visit us last October for a My Old Kentucky Blog/SIRIUS Satellite Radio session in our classroom studio. We're hoping to start bringing you a visual element to every session, and when we found this, we were even more excited about that idea. What do you think? Is video of the sessions a must have? [...]

I considered very strongly going to this year's SXSW . Unfortunately, in the end, by the time I would've had the funds to go it would have been much too late to book a reasonably priced flight+hotel. This will not stop me from telling you who are going what to see though! It's a public service, friends, my civic duty if you will. I will not focus on things you already know - bands you've likely heard of - so if you're wondering why I don't suggest seeing R.E.M. at midnight, simply know it's because you shouldn't [...]
February 29 only happens once every four years, so I decided to do something special for my weekly Friday mix. In addition to my normal new indie mix, I decided to add an all hip-hop one. Both consist of the normal 10 songs. I asked Joe to help me out and he came up with a 9 track classic indie mix to round everything out to 29 songs. So here are 3 in 1 post. Have a great weekend. Part I: Indie Fionn Regan - Be Good Or [...]

This week the cavs gm Danny Ferry was able to complete a trade that surprised everyone in town (and I think the league as well) he managed to (finally) trade Larry Hughes (along with several other players) and get Ben Wallace (and much more) in return. While he is not the player that he once was he still a very intimidating force and I can't believe he is going to be suiting up come tomorrow for the wine and gold (and I will be in attendance to witness this). and now something for the ears... [...]
Who: Islands When: May 24th Where: Webster Hall More Dates Listen: Islands - "The Arm" Thoughts: For some strange and odd reason I have yet to see Islands. I know, it's depressing just thinking about it and it's worse to believe that the first time I see them will be at Webster Hall! Ugh!!! But it's definitely time I finally go and catch their live action and so I may just have to break down and
photo by Matt Jordan of You Ain't No Picasso Spoon just announced a national tour with The Walkmen and White Rabbits. Luckily we're blessed with a double nearshot, with nearby Cincinnati and Indianpolis dates, to brighten up our April. Spoon you need no introduction for, as Jonathan Fisk and The Way we Get By were just [...]
In what is either a genius or terrible booking move Spoon has announced a string of dates featuring two wonderful, but very similar in sound and style, openers; White Rabbits & The Walkmen . I was really hoping for a Nashville date, as White Rabbits are very high on my list of bands to see, but alas! Spoon, Walkmen, and White Rabbits: 04-02 Kansas City, KS - Uptown 04-04 Chicago, IL - Vic Theatre [...]
The last five weeks of my life have involved wandering through European cities finding the external fortresses and treasures reflecting the internal conflicts and answers that I was seeking to better understand. It was no cliché renaissance dream of "finding oneself", no much mocked after travelers lament, in actuality nothing more than a mere vacation from my self and that other anti-culture city life that my body left behind in the exotic basin of Los Angeles. In my tourist trap dodging and backpack sidestepping one of my multiple musical companions was the fantastically appropriate [...]
by crustcake gerf (NYC) I finally managed to get my hands on a copy of White Rabbits ' 2007 full-length Fort Nightly last week. It's good. I saw them almost a year ago with Delta Spirit , who I love , and Cold War Kids , who I like. They're playing a free show at BAM on Saturday. White Rabbits - "The Plot" (2007): [...]
Hey pals, ive been guilty of not posting anything other than 90's and sitting on some tracks that I should share. These first two our from our own homegrown Vancouver boy My!Gay!Husband! who's blowin up tha scene. Check him out on his myspace for tour dates as he's on the road and will be all over North America, overseas, and at the SXSW festival and maybe even some place near you. The first is a nice blend with Hollywood Holt's "Bang That" and Feist's "My Moon Man" and the second a foot stompin "1234" [...]

Generally, I don't even bother reviewing shows that don't do it for me, but when a band lets me down more than once, I feel the need to speak up. I will give The Walkmen a pass on last year's show in Athens, GA (and yes, this picture is actually from that show) which was probably the most disappointing of the year. The UGA crowd either didn't get the memo that the band was in town and the few that didn't show up just didn't seem to care. Furthermore, singer Hamilton Leithauser had just been arrested in [...]
