White Rainbow just kicked down a couple albums worth of New Age swag over at Bandcamp , and beats are straight fire—it's gotta be the best thing that Forkner has put out in the last year (and 2011 saw a lot of music from that dude). The record's called Infinity Beat , and if you're one of the first 111 to buy it, you get to roast on a 20-minute bonus track. Or you could just wait it out, because after the first 111, it's all gonna be pay-what-you-want. You probably wanna just make sure [...]
When I was living in Jersey and doing most of my record/CD shopping in New York City, you could find this CD anywhere for super cheap. At one point the Academy CD store had cases of them, and you could buy as many copies as you wanted for about ninety-nine cents. Now that it's out-of-print [...]
It would have been nice (considering the seriousness with which I took this morning's half-marathon) if I had the opportunity to run 13.1 miles on good rest. Alas, this was not the case. I received only 3 hours of sleep last night, and when my alarm sounded at 6am I was finally starting to drift [...]
Adam Forkner, the dude behind White Rainbow and the Humidifier Plaza EP, makes music a little off the beaten path. Sometimes the best way to put name to unnamed music is to simply describe it associatively, and his own bandcamp tags are about as literally descriptive as it gets: "experimental electronics improv maximalist pizza-based psychedilic Portland." Lemme break this down. It's "experimental" music indeed, given there are few recurring hooks or structures and the tracks are free-form and can run anywhere from 2 -15 minutes; the soundscape is assuredly "electronic"; and there are erratic, 702s "psychedelia" key [...]

With festivals every single weekend, it's hard to imagine that any one could be that different from the rest. But if nothing else, Chicago's two-year old Neon Marshmallow Festival proves that assumption so very wrong. The noise/drone/electronic/general ly avant-garde acts that pummeled the crowd for three nights won't be filling out even the earliest of slots at Coachella or Lollapalooza, and the fans who filed into work Monday morning with damaged ear drums and huge grins on their faces wouldn't want it any other way. Neon Marshmallow is, in a word, weird. In two words, delightfully weird. [...]

LAYS THE BOOGIE DOWN by WHITE RAINBOW It's a new trio of songs from drone, psych, experimental, pop, electronic, almost-every-genre-ever artist White Rainbow. These tracks were built with loop upon loop with no overdubs. The album is titled Lays the Boogie Down , so it should be no surprise that this album is much more beat-oriented than White Rainbow's past work has been. It's pretty much every odd trick you'd expect him to pull, but done in a way that would allow him to get away with it on a dance floor. [...]

Although I often associate Portland's White Rainbow , with up tempo, experimental machine music, his latest Bandcamp drop, the From Now On Let's mix tape, shows a wide range of electronic aesthetics. The appropriately named "Low Ride on Moon Boulevard" tones down the copy room beats, and mines a minimal rhythmic territory. The breathy, deep vocal sample, and the somber synth tones evoke a darker shade of house music, or Knight Rider. As with many contemporary producers, it is clear that the dark and sultry sounds of Sade are a big influence. It is possible that you [...]
In a DIY documentary I probably couldn't find the link back to if I tried, I watched and learned all about the secret life of Adam Forkner, also known for his work under the experimental electronic artist monikers White Rainbow and Rob Walmart and for his activities in the 1995-2002 space-rock group Yume Bitsu, among a gazillion other side projects with more mainstream artists like YACHT (also on Marriage Records), The Dirty Projectors, and Devendra Banhart. The doc directors traveled to Portland, Ore., which I distinctly recall they referred to as a "mecca" of electronic music, where they [...]

Another must see/listen. You'll recall me mentioning Purple & Green several weeks ago in this post about White Rainbow. Again, get hip: . PURPLE & GREEN - "HUMAN NATURE" from judesays on Vimeo .

Chicago-based experimental music festival Neon Marshmallow will return for a second installment Friday, June 10 through Sunday, June 12, 2011. Already the festival has released nearly 20 ambient noise, drone and electronica acts from all over the country and Canada including Pitchfork darlings and Brooklyn trance group OneOhTrix Point Never . Also appearing are legendary electronic composer Morton Subotnick, Portland psychedelic soloist White Rainbow, fellow Portland noise maker Pulse Emitter and Chicago synth enthusiast Beau Wanzer. There are some noticeable differences between Neon Marshmallow's inaugural year and the 2011 edition, [...]

Dudes, ladies and lovers of structureless synthonica (* coined it *), digital wizardry, Portland and pizza: I must confess I've been spending a LAAARGE amount of time the past month with one White Rainbow , aka Dr. Pizza, aka Adam Forkner, aka one of the most ingenious electronic producers in our PacNW region. You might recall from last winter my highlighting of WR's much sought after, out-of-print box set. Still haven't made it all the way through that buzzing behemoth. More recently, Forkner put together some unreleased tracks collecting digital dust in his hard drive, titled [...]
Bradley & Geofrey: MR STEVEN'S PRIVATE SERVICE (featuring bradford cox) by producedbyadam This is a weird musical collaboration between Adam Forkner (Yume Bitsu, White Rainbow), of psych-ambient-noise renown, and Bradford Cox (Deerhunter, Atlas Sound), who should require no introduction. Seems like they're possibly 'on substance(s)' and just goofing around - possibly this isn't even intended for public consumption - it's not clear to me, I just stumbled upon this by accident while browsing through Adam's semi-secret Soundcloud account. Only 50 listens so far = still a secret, surprisingly, considering the Deerhunter obsessives [...]
White Rainbow aka Adam Forkner recently posted a new song on his soundcloud page and spoke of a collaboration with Justin Green titled Purple & Green, which will release a new album soon. He posted this song titled 'Right Here (Original Virtual Digital 12" Mix)'. It...
Here's the new video for 'Meow Hear Me Roar' by We Like Cats (Honey Owens + Adam Forkner + Eva Salens). The clip was directed by Jib Kidder. We Like Cats' debut album Proper Eats is out now on Marriage Records . If you can see this, then you might need a Flash Player upgrade or you need to install Flash Player if it's missing. "New music has been added to your account..." Never disappoints, and Turbo's latest release is definitely no exception. The first batch of remixes from Sei A's incredible album are out, and man of the year Gesaffelstein steals the show hands down. This track blew me away. For the whole build up before it, I was subconsciously making a disgusting face, and when it dropped at 4:21 I was literally frozen in my chair for a good 30 seconds. And that was only on laptop speakers. Pick the release up here . Sei A - Body Of Eyes (Gesaffelstein Violation [...]

Experimental / electronic / ambient / soundscape-y musician Adam Forkner, or White Rainbow, recently dropped a new live album on the WRBANDCAMP . It's three spacious tracks of recordings made at several spots in New York. One of 'em is a hotel, one is a loft, and another is a basement. It's also available via that "pay whatever you feel like payin'" basis that's so popular nowadays. The tracks are filled with bloops, hums, buzzes, and unidentifiable tones. It's perfect for airing out the brain and relaxing the senses. [...]
