WVUM 90.5 FM's Executive Board is a group of handpicked individuals that have committed to care for and maintain the station, to make sure it never goes in the wrong direction and sounds great at all times. We're also a friendly family cult made up of really smart and eccentric kids. Our jobs vary as do our ages, interests, and backgrounds but for some reason we all get along. I've been at that station for years now and I've seen General Managers come and go, Amber has been one of my favorites (although she's also like my annoying little sister... [...]

Stuarto Glasser, host of the All Around the World Music Show, called me up a little after 5pm Friday and asked if I could fill in for him. Thinking it would be a great way to attract a few more listeners I agreed. I headed home and put together a playlist of some of my favorite indie artists from around the world. The first half of the list below aired as the split show: The Indie Music Show from All Around the World. I began with some lovable indie [...]
Tweet This post is a "QuickPick". QuickPicks are my attempt at getting all of the music that's sent to me that I like (or just music I like but have no words for because it's so awesome), out into the dubya dots. Any time I get sent music that I like I "star" it in Gmail and then go back and listen to it a day later. If it's still as good as it was a day before [...]
Brahms Brought It Out Continuing on my warpath of making out with as many SXSW buzz bands as humanly possible, next in the line of fire was the uber hip Manhattanites BRAHMS . How could I pass up barely legal, Aloha -esque, fashion week celebs standing inches away from me? I couldn’t. Jailbait guitar and keyboard player Drew had already caught my eye. The band that formed a little over a year ago quickly [...]

BRAHMS have been around for well over a year now but have yet to release anything officially, until now that is. Their much-hyped four song EP was fantastic, trawling through the depths of the darkest and dreariest of Electronic Funeral-Pop, but it was always given away for free and was never tangible. Well it looks like it won't be anytime, but they are releasing this new song on an upcoming 73 single (out March 1st) as the B-side with the A-side being the the newer jam I posted of theirs back in January "Add It [...]

Finally, some new music from BRAHMS. Since I discovered them back in March after sifting through the massive amounts of music that the SXSW organisers give away for free each year, it's been almost 10 months since anything new from this NYC three-piece has made it's way onto the interwebs. They have done a bunch of remixes but nothing new by themselves, until now. Premiered over at Stereogum , "Add It Up" is taken from their upcoming debut 73 and we can "expect a full-length this year". Sweet! Check it out [...]
Three good-looking young men with a huge pedigree of music between them (lead Cale Parks is from Aloha, White Williams and his own solo work, just to mention a bit), a year in active duty that has already seen them open up a tour for Passion Pit and share dates with Telepathe and Lemonade, book huge shows at SXSW and in/around New York, BRAHMS makes 80's nostalgic cinematic pop music that's as affected as it is effective. It's beautiful and sometimes complex, but never not fun and creative in approach. The three sort of came together immediately and have only [...]

Remember that huge SXSW post I made a couple of weeks ago where I uploaded hundreds of songs by bands and artists appearing at this year's festival? Nah I didn't think so, but I do, and one of the things I remember about it as I was listening to all of the songs and writing down bands that caught my attention and then marking bands that I really liked with multiple asterisks, was that I had placed exactly three asterisks next to the name "BRAHMS". Yeah you read that right; THREE ASTERISKS. Just take that [...]

healthy dissent monday music. Silent Signals - Exit out The ELF - Dancing in the dark Fad Gadget - Lady shave White Williams - Headlines

Is anyone else confused by the weather? Not sure what it's like near you, but one day it's sunny, the next it's like the underside of a sodden moose. It does mean we can snuggle up all warm though, and gives us more excuses for drinking, sleeping, watching telly and listening to music... So RINGO DEATHSTARR are an ace new shoegaze band...they sound a little bit too similar to My Bloody Valentine, The Jesus & Mary Chain, or even The Cure, but there's nothing wrong with any of that. They're a little looser and punkier than [...]

Story by Gracie Remington Photography by Nikki Turner Farrah is pregnant. A popular cheerleader and high school senior in Council Bluffs, Iowa, Farrah’s announcement comes by way of clique-ish backstab job at the hands of her best friends. Though shunned by her cheer squad, it’s news that leaves her in the loving arms of an MTV camera crew, a reality star of the network’s popular show, 16 and Pregnant . She whines about her newfound lack of a social life. She goes to the doctor. She battles her mother [...]

This is is wonderful. Although it made near suicidal with frustration for quite a long time. Whilst working at the retail chain CD's would be sent to pop in our CD player and play. Designed to be cool whilst subliminally encouraging shoppers to be happy, enjoy their shopping experience and buy many items from the shop. I had a pretty macbre fascination with those compilations. I think part of me wanted it to be my job to compile them and send them out. I think I'd have been very good at it. I used to get excited when [...]

"National Treasure" Andrew Weatherall has just completed a mix for FACT Magazine in support of his first solo album, a collection of slow-burning punk-funk entitled A Pox on the Pioneers, that merges Weatherall’s longstanding interest in rock ‘n’ roll and “modernist electronics”. Andrew Weatherall - A Pox on the Influences Tracklist: 1. Circlesquare - Hey You Guys 2. Whitey - It Was Made of Night 3. Dum, Dum, [...]

As you already know earmilk maintains a constant semi for mashups, but when you add Kid Cudi and the Hood Internet into the mix, it becomes a full on hard on. So in celebration of the highly anticipated release of Man On The Moon: End of Day , that came out yesterday which all of you should be out buying to support Cudder.. we bring you a new Hood Internet mash of Kid Cudi with the timeless Bon Jovi . We know many of you share our love for mashes, so I included some [...]

Thats right, the already up and comers Jack Beats are looking to crash your city (or at least they are crashing mine) on their upcoming "UFO EP" tour entitled the "UFO Landings Tour" Jack Beats are Beni G (Mixologists) and Plus One (Scratch Perverts), a production duo from London, UK who bring you the cutting edge of wobble British house - which is for most of us, exactly what the doctor ordered. Jack Beats are a refreshing bit of o.g. house in this fading electro remix landscape that reminds of you younger [...]

white williams - "headlines" (download) From 2007's Smoke , released by Kid606 's label Tigerbeat6 . White Williams (Joe Williams) has done shows with Nine Inch Nails , Girl Talk , Lightning Bolt and The Rapture . Mostly poppy, sometimes on the more experimental side (fitting in nicely with the Tigerbeat6 roster). Sometimes even reminiscent of the still-active weirdo pop group Sparks . [...]

Meet White Williams . Cheeky, chirpy music sung by someone who sounds massively like the Hot Chip singer, Alexis Taylor. It's definitely got a summery feel to it, it makes me imagine myself tottering around drinking cider in a park somewhere. Unfotunately I have to just imagine this as the bastard sun has gone in! Does this mean our summer is over?? Probably. White Williams - Violator [...]

Synth pop at its best = The Juan Maclean 's new album, The Future Will Come. It's smooth and quixotic disco most of the time, percussive and pensive at some points, occasionally menacing thanks to JM's haunting Fakeresque voice, but always dreamy dreamy visionary post-disco that never takes itself too seriously. He's had help from DFA label buddies Nancy Whang (LCD Soundsystem), Gerry Fuchs (!!!), Nick Millhiser and Alex Frankel (Holy Ghost!), and his BFF James Murphy (LCD). This remix of ‘One Day’ from James Curd of Greenskeepers is so tight and fetching... [...]

I am always amazed with the dumb shit people "smoke" these days just too pretend they are actually smokin weed. The newest craze.. Smokin smarties "I don't kill you and it don't hurt at all". The other day I was sent a video on YouTube showing some cute kid pretending to be tough with his smarties smoke and I totally underestimated how but the "smokin smarties" trend is, until I saw the 2000 videos on youtube that describe exactly how to "smoke" smarties. I remember when kids [...]
