As a first listen, the foursome have released the pseudo-title track, "The Palace Garden, 4am", a rollicking trifecta of chirpy harmonies, spastic bass, and extraterrestrial-sounding synth. Stream it below. In support of the release, band will embark on its first North American headlining tour starting in mid-June. The full schedule is listed below. Beat Connection 2012 Tour Dates: 05/27 [...]

This is my US music post from The Great Escape, following from my very oh so British Jethro Fox & Lucy Rose post. These bands are from opposite coasts but were two I was very much excited to get down to see. Brooklyn natives, Friends were a band that drew in a slightly large crowd to The Haunt on the Friday night. An odd venue, because it is literally pitch black throughout, which did benefit me in photographing them. Strangely there was just me and one other photographer at the front. I had not gone in with any [...]

[A few tunes from L.A. artists who have been hard at work...] FIDLAR , "Got No Money" — Zac Carper and gang, whose acronym stands for F-k It Dog, Life's a Risk, return with yet another single from their "Don't Try" EP (out now on Mom + Pop). "Got No Money" has the odd juxtaposition of urgency and slacker undertones but follows suit with their other punk anthems. [...]

Art and drugs have always and will always be, in some way married. The matrimony hasn't always been a happy one, but it's undeniable that those who are bent toward making art - attempting to create material world embodiments of their soul - are often also bent toward expanding their consciousness using substances. While LSD helped define an entire generation of artists in the 60s and 70s, it seems that MDMA will define the current one. "Roll Forever" doesn't exist so much as an ode to the drug, but rather attempts to evoke some of the experience of "rolling." The [...]
In a lead-up to its highly anticipated debut full-length, Dry Land Is Not A Myth, White Arrows premiered a new single, "Roll Forever." The dizzying psyche-pop track is a blatant tribute to ecstasy, but who needs drugs when you can listen to music, right? (Don't answer that.) Dry Land Is Not A Myth is slated [...]

On Fireworks of the Sea , White Arrows deliver an incredibly solid release that should help propel them to the ranks of the genre's best. At first blush, White Arrows' Fireworks of the Sea EP almost comes off as twee in its approach, considering the trend electro-pop has recently taken in gravitating toward the dark, haunted sounds of witch house. It's a refreshing change of pace and is somewhat jarring, but as the three songs play through, it reveals itself for what it is -- simply great pop music. There's something to White Arrows that is hard to [...]
It's great news that Los Angeles dudes White Arrows are going to be releasing a full-length album on June 19 via Votiv Music. Great because I've wanted to hear plenty more from this quintet since we featured their track "Get Gone" last August, and the song ended up on my Best Songs of 2011 list. [...]

About: Mickey Church: I was born up Beachwood Canyon in Los Angeles, a middle child, with an older sister, Kaylie, who is in a band, and a younger brother, Henry, who plays drums in my band, White Arrows. We were always encouraged to play instruments growing up; for me it was piano, and for my brother it was to take after our dad who studied African percussion at Cal Arts and played drums himself. My imagination always was integral in my life because of the fact that I was born without being able to [...]

The Great Escape is shaping up to be as ever, a bloody exciting Festival this year, and I will admit to being a tad biased as it solidifies itself in my books as 'Festival of the year'. For those who have yet to discover the wonders of The Great Escape, the festival runs in the delightful Sussex coast town of Brighton, from Thursday 10th May to Sunday 13th and I'm not going to even hide it behind a shade of cool, it is fantastic and always marks the start of the festival season for me. The bookers of TGE always [...]
