As I sit here listening to Rumer's 70s-inspired new single, "P.F. Sloan," I'm kicking myself for not covering her sooner here on Music Is My King Size Bed. A cover of a song written by Jimmy Webb, "P.F. Sloan" is named for the 60s American pop/rock singer/songwriter who, in addition to his own successful career, wrote various Top 20 hits for The Searchers, The Mamas & The Papas and

Rumer was a special guest performer at a concert honouring Burt Bacharach and Hal David , which was held by The President and the First Lady at the White House on Wednesday (May 9, 2012). As the sole British artist invited to perform, Rumer took to an all-star bill that also featured the likes of Stevie Wonder, Sheryl Crow, Diana Krall and the actor Mike Myers . It also saw her perform before her hero, Bacharach, with whom she famously sang in his Californian home [...]

White House : Rock Bottom [ purchase ] Wouldn't "Rock Bottom" be a great name for your local watering hole where you can disappear for days? The important thing to remember is it "ain't very far away," especially after your woman has packed up and headed back to momma. White House billed itself as "Bluegrass's New Supergroup" when they released their debut album back in 2003. The five string wizards (who all lived in White House, Tn., a suburb north of Nashville) [...]
It's happening people. It's happening. According to CNN, the National Institutes Of Health has given the OK to publish studies on the so-called Bird Flu (or Avian Flu, or H5N1) in medical journals. Yesterday, during the annual White House Easter Egg Roll, Janelle Monáe performed her rendition of The Jackson 52s "I Want You Back". The Monáe version stays faithful to the original, with bubbly, romantic vocals nearly identical to our fab five of yesteryear, only there's this laid-back, air of abandonment to the supporting string and horn work. If nothing else, it's a vast improvement on the "Bunny Hop" song . Watch the replay below (via Pigeons and Planes ).
Good evening, travelers. You're entering an area adjacent to the general vicinity of a particular place. Maybe it's a website that posts some weird kind of music. This is just a for instance. I'm going to spare you the political rhetoric, but I will say that there is something awesome about watching the President of my country sing along to one of the greatest blues tunes known to man. This take features up and coming guitar phenom Gary Clark Jr. performing a killer "Catfish [...]

Decades of poor maintenance, the construction of a fourth story attic during the Coolidge administration, and the addition of a second-floor balcony over the south portico for Harry Truman took a great toll on the brick and sandstone structure built around a timber frame. By 1948, the house was declared to be in imminent danger of collapse, forcing President Truman to commission a reconstruction and move across the street to Blair House from 1949 to 1951. The work, done by the firm of Philadelphia contractor John McShain, required the complete dismantling of the interior spaces, construction of [...]

A mighty rain fell all night and pounded the roof. It was a sweet sound to me, and I easily fell asleep. This morning when I went out to get the papers, I saw the snow was just about gone. Only a few small piles remain, and they won't last long. It will be 50° today. No sun again this morning, just a gray sky, but the sun will be by later. I'll be happy to see it after so long. The Bruins were at the White House yesterday to be feted by the President for winning the [...]
