by bmac So as you've probably noticed we changed up our music player this week. The skinny being that you can now stream music without interruption while surfing different pages. We're gonna pimp out the player with download buttons, etc. but in the meantime you can right click the artist and track names to download individual songs. You can also get them all at once in the zip below. Change is good. We're pushing things forward. Gone are the winters of discontent... Grab em [...]
by eliza czander Quiet Color: You're music is so beautiful and delicate. It's hard to believe you were involved in the punk/hardcore music scene when you first started. When did things change for you? What was the inspiration to start writing entirely different music? Whitley: When I was playing in hardcore bands, I was still listening to Dylan, Mason Jennings , Paul Simon and other folks like Emmylou [...]

Here are a trio of reviews of albums from impressive bands that you might not have heard. Even if you don't bother with the reviews, check out a free download from each artist. Trust me, it's worth your time. Whitley - The Subm arine (* * * *) Whitley is the solo project of Melbourne native Lawrence Greenwood who has been making some waves in his home country. His debut album, The Submarine has only recently been released [...]
22 year old singer songwriter Whitley hails from Melbourne, Australia and he's just released The Submarine, his debut album. Blending acoustics and electronica, Whitley's debut received some excellent reviews when it came out in Australia last year and now he's poised to hit these shores on a tour with Ben Kweller. Here's what Here Comes The Flood music blog had to say about the album. "He is

In the midst of a long day of watching the beginning of the Major League Baseball playoffs, I kinda forgot all about putting this week's Graboid up today. After a devastating grand slam during the Cubs/Dodgers game, I decided I needed a break and sat down to get this week's releases up before the night ends. To be honest, I haven't given a full listen to hardly any of this week's albums, so I can't really suggest anything in particular. Though, most of the sample songs I skimmed through have been pretty good ( Ani DiFranco [...]

Whitley , a singer-songwriter form Mlebourne, Australia, is only 22. He is into folk, mixing traditional Aussie sounds with the Mississippi folk instrument the steel lap guitar (dobro), courtesy of his collaborator Nick Huggins. Hi songs are like gentle waves, with unexpected undercurrents. None of the Xavier Rudd hoopla on his debut album The Submarine . Whitely uses spare instrumentation, not wanting to choke his songs with tons of layers. Less is indeed more. The Submarine is released on Dew Process . Release date: September 15th. Tracks: [...]

Melbourne's very Whitley is set to play a once-off show before leaving the country to tour America with everyone's favorite, Ben Kweller . Joining Whitley for the show will be Panics lead-singer Jae Laffer, and Sime Nugent. This is most defintely one of those rare chances you get to expereince to extraordinary artists at their finest as they perform the best of their repertoire, some new tracks, and collaborative material. The Panics are also set to head off to the UK and Canada in the next coming months to record their follow-up to 2007 J-Award [...]
Well done Foxtel HD ! although you are touting what is possibly the most overrated product (High Definition Pay TV) as the latest and greatest thing to happen to TV, I can atleast appluad the adertisers efforts, not only filmically, but also in terms of audio... bringing to my attention this awesome track from Melbournian Lawrence Greenwood, AKA Whitley Whitley - Lost In Time [...]

Chances are you already heard about that Stereogum Bjork tribute album ? Well, as a blogger, I do appreciate them taking time and effort to gather artists and release the whole thing for free, which is a very noble gesture, however, as a cover enthusiast, there's only about 2-3 tracks that managed to convince me to import them to my library. If anything, this, along with the groundbreaking visual masterpiece that is 'Wanderlust' (seriously, don't watch it on YouTube - buy the dvd single when it comes out - best video of 2008 so far!), have inspired me to [...]

An australian musician who mixes a folky rock style with electronic influences. He sounds a lot like Sufjan Stevens. His CD "The Submarine" is a great rainy day album, that has a real feel good vibe. He loops electronic beats and interesting instruments over his popy vocals. I was first unsure about his CD, "The Submarine" but the more i listened the more interesting it got. A few negative points I don't find anything about the music to particularly stand out. I just although I have a good time listening to [...]

Sometimes I wonder if I write enough about Australian music. I do see a lot of live local music and I think there are a bunch of young, promising bands doing a good job at the moment. But anyone who knows me would know that I am the least parochial person there is. I really do consider parochialism to be a waste of time. To favour one type of music over another, based on its origin, to me seems quite silly. Music is about invention, heart and passion. It knows no borders. Right now I seem to be obsessed about [...]

I remember when Whitley (not White-ly) first entered my consciousness. I had bargained my way into a band night at Spectrum and was looking forward to seeing The Seabellies. They were great (surprise, surprise), but it was another artist who caught my eye. In between the bands, everyone I chatted to seemed to suggest that this Whitley guy was pretty special. I had no idea what to expect and when I saw him walk out with just a stool and acoustic guitar, I was a little sceptical. But as is so often the case, I was wrong. While I normally [...]
