Bugs, its time to settle into your Thursday with some afternoon bass. Connecticut native Whole-Z , who's been turning heads with a wide variety of remixes, has resurfaced with his first, big time original production. Its a huge step in any aspiring producer's career and its up to their fans to decide if that was a step back or forward. In this case, it was a giant leap, this song is tremendous. "Listen" is a dominantly dubstep song with a powerful moombahton feel. It begins with always catchy sliced-and-diced female vocals taunting you in and out of each soothing [...]
To start off our Best of's for 2011, I decided to go with one of the more obscure lists, best of Ghetto Funk. If you don't know what ghetto funk is then you better get to. With a blend of electro funk and bass buzzin wobbles, ghetto funk is the next evolution in the genre. The list here is filled with remix classics ranging from Jurassic 5 to Hall & Oates. A few of are from late 2010, but they didn't get to go up on last years Ghetto Funk list (because there wasn't one), [...]

Still surprised I haven't gotten into Kahlifa more. I guess it's just that need a remix situation and that remix is this. Whole-Z brings out Khalifa's steady rap and vocal highs with synths that touch just right. Just shows the range Whole-Z puts on his remixes compared to his Edward Sharpe remix . Wiz Khalifa - That Plane (Whole-Z Remix) BONUS: Limp Bizkit - Nookie (Whole-Z Remix) [...]

This isn't a complicated remix - a hypnotic bass buzzer below with a few electro-glitches on top - but it makes the vocals in it all the more soothing. I love what bass//electo music does to folk songs... as long as they don't go too far with it. But what do y'all think? Got any other Edward Sharpe electro-remixes in ya pocket? Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros - Home (Whole-Z Remix) [...]
Stole this from the great Jonny K. I think it's been just about long enough to bring this BGB classic back, and just in time for Spring festivities. Edward Sharpe - "Home (Whole-Z Remix)"
Jacob Es is an upcoming rapper from the Boston area and is currently attending school at the University of Vermont. He started rapping a year ago after his third elbow operation put him out of my dream of playing baseball and left him with no feeling in my right hand. Music has been what got his life back on track, and he couldn't be happier. Here is his new single called Willie Beamen, which is over the song "Hawaii" by alternative band Blackbird Blackbird. I hope you enjoy the track, and I will be sure [...]

Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zero's bring us a song that really warms the heart when you need it. Here's a sweet new remix to spice up the original, and a shoutout to my best friends at Texas Tech, I miss you slats like crazy right now... And to Brooke Kuby - Happy fucking birthday babe!!! I'm pleased to give you the latest Whole-Z BANGER. The producer from Burlington who brought you the epic Edward Sharpe - 'Home' remix , and the Phantom of the Opera remix ft. Lil Jon . Well now he's taken Rich Boy's classic 'Throw Some Deez' and mashed it with Coldplay's 'Fix You', and of course worked his own producer magic on it. The outcome is not a full a BANGER, but an electronic remix with a good amount of bass that you could listen to anytime throughout the day, and even at a party. I'm sure a lot [...]

I'm here with an exclusive remix I'm very stoked to post. It's from Burlington DJ/Producer Whole-Z who brought us the infectiously catchy BANGER remix of Edward Sharpes' Home . The song quickly became one of the site's favorites and I've been waiting for his latest ever since, and now the time is here. He took parts of a song from Phantom of the Opera, mixed it with some Lil Jon vocals, and his own dose of electro/house almost dubstep influence at parts. The song honestly remind me of Deadmau52s ghosts n stuff. Check it out this remix is a [...]
I thought I posted this a couple weeks back, but I just tossed it up on the site's Facebook and Twitter feeds, when it's entirely deserving of it's own post. So if you're up on my social media skills, or if you've had some sort of contact with a news outlet for the past two weeks, then this is old as hell for you. With that being said, I went to post an electro remix of Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeroes' "Home", and I couldn't find a way to not include this jaw-dropping cover. The back story [...]

Thursdays are the days that I write record reviews. You know this. Last night I stumbled to the conclusion that I wasn't going to get one done; I thought I had one paper due today, but I actually had two due. I had a great record to write about (Castevet, which I'll hit you with next week), but no time to get the words onto paper. I felt bad. I did, however, get my papers done for school, which is good. (Not flunking out of school > Castevet (Sorry, fellas.)) Justin picked up the slack for me this morning, but [...]

I enjoy putting on Girl Talk and just letting it ride. The DJs and producers that put mash-ups together clearly have talent and know how to, if nothing else, match beats flawlessly. And I do buy that old art can be re-appropriated to create new art and that "fair use" is a legitimate legal concept. The novelties of mash-ups are not lost on me; they can easily feel too cute for comfort. Still, every time I hear a well-done mash-up, I can't help but smile. Hearing two or three tracks mixed together impeccably never fails [...]
