Why? throw a big summer soiree in their latest video supporting, Mumps, Etc. , due out October 9th via Anticon/City Slang. Directed by Scott Fredette and Alex Parks, "Strawberries" focuses on mastermind Yoni Wolf as he leads a battalion of costumed eccentrics, all willing to follow him wherever he goes and do whatever he says. Too bad, he's not very safe, as he pleads: "I don't wear rubbers and I don't wear sunscreen." Yikes. You can hear all 13 tracks of Mumps, Etc. right now at FACT , and [...]

Nipping at the ragged heels of their eagerly devoured Sod in the Seed EP (which you can download for FREE here), WHY? at last unleash their fifth long-player, Mumps, etc , a meticulous work of morbid fascination and offbeat romanticism dubbed Mumps, etc. Though there is a mysterious sickness (perhaps of the mind) that lurks about these thirteen songs, one might also imagine the title as describing the musical state of these three Midwestern men as they bring their sound into glisteningly buff focus. Yoni Wolf, brother Josiah and Doug McDiarmid [...]

Menomena – Heavy is as Heavy Does [mp3] (from Moms , out now) Justin Harris and Danny Seim soldier on as a duo (minus founding member Brent Knopf who left to pursue his solo project Ramona Falls). The new album is more cohesive than previous collections, with their multi-layered, intricate approach to experimental indie rock focusing more on the subject of family relationships (but still brandishing their bare-knuckled take on friendship and sexuality). [...]
Featured on WHY?’s forthcoming album Mumps, “Strawberries” is that joint you will be bumping this fall. It’s fucking great.

Muse' s new album, The 2nd Law , is now streaming in full at The Guardian' s website . If you haven't been following the promotional cycle, the band caused quite the stir with their dubstep-y single "Madness" . However, according to press for the album, the 12-track effort was influenced by an array of musicians, everyone from The Beach Boys to David Bowie to Queen. If you like what you hear, the album hits stores on October 2nd via Helium 3/Warner Bros. Records. Also streaming this week is the new album from [...]
Today's music beat all other music in a fight to the death. Enjoy. : Action Bronson - It's Me : This is a song that features what seems to be a Little Mermaid sample thrown over lyrics that Disney would never ever approve of. I dig it. Way to keep things fresh, AB . This Party Supplies-produced number appears to be a random one, so grab it while you can. : Harlan - 1984 : Here's a nice 80s-enthused track. If you can manage to make it through the chorus with wanting to create some [...]
The latest single from WHY? is a melodic indie rock ditty and another reason to anxiously await the Cincinnati group's fifth full-length album, Mumps etc. , due out October 9th via Anticon / City Slang . In case this leaves you unconvinced, check out their previously released single "Jonathan's Hope," which we raved about last month.

Time to catch up with all that's new, good, interesting, oddball, and plain strange. You can sift for the nuggets of gold yourself, or take our advice and try them all...after all it is the weekend. We have a new track from longstanding favourite Amen Dunes , Sixteen comes from the forthcoming arts and literary project The Unified Field , and we also have a second taste of Why?'s new album in the shape of Strawberries . Your Youth is a loud alternative band from Brooklyn that doesn't totally exist, [...]

Amerikanske Why?

photo by Jeremy Farmer A.C. Newman has released another track from his forthcoming solo album Shut Down The Streets due out October 9 via Matador. The track, titled "Encyclopedia of Classic Takedowns," features Newman's fellow New Pornographer Neko Case on backing vocals resulting in a super clean indie-pop song sounding much like their other work, which is not at all a bad thing. Check out "Encyclopedia of Classic Takedowns" as well as A.C. Newman tour dates over at Matador's website . [...]
