Dj Charts: Deepchild - Beatport New & Old Chart. genre: Techno, Deep House, Tech House, Minimal.

What a year for electronic music. I must agree with O-God and the rest of the boys that it is nearly impossible to put together a list of 'the best' tracks in the past year, especially when you have a potent addiction to finding new jams to shake your coconut to. It would likely be easier to make a top 100 of 2010 list, but we agreed on a format so let's give this a go. Since I spent much of my year listening to Tech House, Minimal and Deep House - - not to mention a lot [...]

In her recent electronic music documentary Speaking in Code, Amy Grill takes a decidedly different approach than other recent DJ docs like Justice's "A Cross the Universe" and Swedish House Mafia's "Take One." While the DJ's in those films are rock stars with ridiculous egos and even more ridiculous lifestyles, the producers and DJ's featured in "Speaking in Code" are quirky, relatable people dealing with the enormous demands of their careers. If there's any moment that most encapsulates this spirit, it's when Monkey Maffia, after playing a huge festival gig, refuses to sign a dude's T-shirt because he's "just a [...]
Weird little bootleg/edit from years ago by the Wighnomy's (R.I.P) It's got a proper off-kilter bassline (typical work from the hands of Robag Wruhme) and definatly not what you'd... For many Americans, most electronic dance music lacks the overt personality they demand from music, as it carries on without an obvious beginning or ending and can be reduced to an easy to mock "oontz oontz oontz." Cogniscent of this popular perception, Amy Grill placed the focus of the documentary, Speaking In Code , on contemporary artists and important figures in techno and house scenes rather than examining their history or the finer points of sub-genres. Early on, Grill (who narrates the film) states that their hope is to rehabilitate electronic dance music in Americans' [...]
A very special partnership indeed occured between NYC's Adultnapper and London's legendary Mr.C. One remix that I wasn't aware of until a couple of weeks ago was this Style of Eye take on "We Are The People" by Empire of the Sun . A sexy minimal-techy vibe suits this one just fine with me. It's one of many nice tracks featured on his Essential Mix that was put out back in June. Empire of the Sun - We Are The People (Style of Eye Remix) Sticking with great combos, Diplo & Laidback Luke got together on [...]

see part 1 of Movement 2009 here Saturday evening was round two and a bigger crowd was out to enjoy the beats in slightly cooler weather, the wind whipping in off the river to end the sweatiness. As we drove into the city on Jefferson Avenue it was clear the festival had moved along since the previous night - American Appareled young folk and your more regular ravers were on the streets, and beats could be heard while we went to find parking. Dennis Ferrer was [...]

Left Whistle, 2009 -Apple Tablet ? Who cares, where's my iPhoneWatch ? -Can't wait to see The Brothers Bloom , from Rian Johnson, the writer and director of the Brick , the excellent portrayal of a dystopian society ruled by teenagers. - I hate hipsters. They pervade every inch of the Mission district where I live and it's starting to look like the Marina district, but instead of Polos and BMW's, it's mopeds, Ray Bans and Docksiders. This style, or lack of style comes from kids [...]

The 2009 Boston Independent Film Festival has announced that Amy Grill's feature documentary film, SPEAKING IN CODE, will have its world Premiere at the festival. In 2005 Amy Grill, currently a faculty member at Emerson College, began filming a verité account of the characters behind electronic music. The result is an intimate, inspiring and sometimes heartbreaking look into a world where people get lost in music. After interviewing many characters in many different countries, Grill trained her camera on eight individuals within the world of electronic music: an innovative inventor, two rambunctious bad-boy producers, two DJ and their [...]

The "D" Hat, Carmel Valley, 2008 Sometimes it's good to go outside of your comfort zone...give up control, trust your instincts and to just go with whatever discomforting situation. What is it ? The feeling that you'll be taken to another level of understanding of yourself. Challenge your knowledge. Grow. Don't sit still. Lately, I've been challenging myself physically and it's definitely helped to clear up my mind. At one time, I challenged everything because I thought there was something better, but now, I am doing it to gain perspective. There's a graffiti sign that [...]

Last year at this time, Basstown came to be. Hearthrob guested on Landsdowne St with our friend Tim Sweeney. It was one wild night . Related parties have shows tomorrow. Hearthrob comes with D.I.M. D.I.M. has some clever style. His remixes are played in clubs worldwide and is a stellar talent. His originals are worthwhile for sure. Here's one remix from dancefloor-kid Brodinski : D.I.M. - Is You (Brodinski Remix) [...]
