Did you know about this? I just read a 3-star review of the New Multitudes CD - a collection of songs built upon unrecorded Woody Guthrie lyrics by Jay Farrar (Son Volt), Will Johnson (Centro-matic), Anders Parker (Varnaline), Yim Yames (My Morning Jacket) - in the new issue (Paul McCartney-cover) of Rolling Stone . The magazine's website did a feature on the release which one person commented, probably rightfully so, "Wasn't this album called Mermaid Avenue?" I'm snagging this [...]
TwentyFourBit points towards an interesting video of Wilco performing at the Civic Opera House in Chicago on which the band are performing their opening track of the 1996 album, Being There. The track in question is "Misunderstood" and the video is time-lapsed making for an entertaining video to accompany the live performance. It was shot by Richie Wireman.

To commemorate Woody Guthrie's 100 th birthday.

To commemorate Woody Guthrie's 100th birthday on July 14th, Nonesuch Records plans to release a four-disc compilation of Billy Bragg and Wilco's Mermaid Avenue collaboration. According to Bragg's website , Mermaid Avenue: The Complete Sessions comprises remastered versions of 19982s Mermaid Avenue Volume I and 20002s Mermaid Avenue Volume II , 17 tracks culled from the unreleased Mermaid Avenue Volume III sessions, and Kim Hopkins' 1999 film, Man in the Sand , which documents the collaborations between Bragg and Wilco. If you recall, the project came to fruition after Guthrie's daughter, Nora, uncovered a wealth of unused lyrics by the late [...]

This album goes here because this is how I feel about it today. Some days, it would be a lot higher, some days a lot lower. Oh, how I've wrestled with you, The Whole Love . Some days, you're warm and radiant, some days cold and distant. There ain't no good guy, there ain't no bad guy, there's only you and me and we just disagree. But when we're on the same wavelength, like that night that Wilco and Nick Lowe came to my town and played one of the most mesmerizing shows I've ever seen, well, it makes [...]

I'm about 220,000 views late on this one, but it's still worth sharing for those that haven't seen it. Jeff Tweedy performed at a book release party for The F***ing Epic Twitter Quest of @MayorEmanuel. He came half-prepared for a cover of The Black Eyed Peas song "I Gotta Feeling." Watch below. Tweet
Wilco - Via Chicago from Summerteeth , 1999 The last few tracks added to my top 100 list were amazingly difficult but the choice ultimately came down to what I thought was more important for this project: the songs I've loved longer or the songs I love more now. I picked the former, though I can't really say way. All I know is that if I had made this list 9 years ago, Via Chicago would be in the top 20, and that was good enough for me to make sure [...]
Nada Surf's new album'The Stars Are Indifferent To Astronomy' shows the NYC band haven't lost any of their melodic charm. Featuring guest appearances by musician Doug Gillard (Guided by Voices) and produced by Chris Shaw (Wilco) the band show an exceptional ability for remaining evergreen. Take the excellent 'When I Was Young' for example; it builds classically, starting with a simple jangly acoustic [...]
