Well this is exciting; I'm going to come right out and say it...I'm pretty excited we got England's Wild Beasts to answer this special edition of the Kuestionnaire. While I was an admittedly casual fan of 20092s Two Dancers , it wasn't until this year's Smother that I became a dedicated Wild Beasts listener. The album is a step in the right direction for a group that had clearly indentified themselves as wildly creative and sonically bold. The layered configuration and sensuality of tracks like Plaything and [...]

Wild Beasts ' third studio album "Smother" shimmers and bounces from every angle of light as Hayden Thorpe's countertenor dips and and glides out of heavy yet powerfully cathartic arrangements. As they get prepare to release their new single, "Reach a Bit Further," which will be released Nov. 14 on limited edition vinyl, they offer one of their b-sides. "Thankless Thing," recorded during the initial sessions for "Smother," is more uplifting than the gorgeously somber "Albatross" via dainty staccato rhythms and contrastingly strong bass lines. However, the tune is another exemplary musical artwork that depicts the wide array of darkness [...]

Welcome to the Thursday Roundup. I call it that for no other reason than just because I can. ►Ahhh, Foo Fighters at The Forum w/ Cage the Elephant and Mariachi El Bronx . Really don't need to say much about this, do I? Do I? Just look at them... ►Mercury Prize winners in 2010 for album of the year (for "Two Dancers"), the UK's Wild Beasts play the Echoplex (check their video for "Bed of Nails" ). Supporting the eve is EMA. ► Family of the Year release their collective [...]
Why am I skipping Day 1 of the 2011 Treasure Island Music Festival ? It certainly isn't because October 15th has a lackluster lineup. With some of my favorite bands such as Death From Above 1979, Empire of the Sun and SF locals Geographer playing, it's a day that I don't want to miss. No, the lineup isn't the reason. It's simply that if I were to choose a day from which I wanted to create an awesome preview playlist, it'd have to be Day 2. That because October 16th will feature artists [...]

For the release of their next single "Reach A Bit Further," taken from their critically acclaimed third full length Smother , Wild Beasts have decided to pull together the Smother b-sides and "Thankless Thing" is the only previously unheard song that is included. Wild Beasts produce outlandish and grandiose theatrical pop songs that sneakily embed their way into your heart with Thorpe and Fleming's crooning vocals, and this is no exception. As with all Wild Beasts material, the song grabs your attention throughout despite being on the long side at over 5 and a half minutes. Quivering [...]

Wild Beasts - Photo by Erik Ljung After one of the most exciting weekends in Wisconsin sports history, the last thing on many people's minds would be traveling to downtown Milwaukee to see a concert. Despite this reality, Sunday night at Turner Hall Ballroom proved to be icing on the triumphant cake for concertgoers as the UK's Wild Beasts took to the stage after, dream-pop newcomers, Twin Sister opened the evening's musical festivities. On Friday night, me and my friends went to Clinton's for a fun night of dancing. While we were there, we met some cool people and in a drunken 3 am haze, we decided that karaoke was the only course of action. We stumbled down a narrow staircase into one of those Korean karaoke places that you swear would serve you alcohol after three, but the lady at the front of the shop was insistent that this wasn't one of "those places". We went into the room and proceeded to do as you do, which is butcher as many songs [...]

Frank Yang It's right here , in these very pages, the fact that I didn't dig on Wild Beasts' last record Two Dancers and only after some persistence was able to reach a point of understanding it if not appreciating it. But mayhap that exercise softened me up enough that even though it wasn't as acclaimed as its predecessor, I took to this year's Smother almost immediately and also put Two Dancers back into rotation. All of which [...]

They're bringing Twin Sister with them to Varsity Theater and we're offering you a chance to win a pair of tickets! All you have to do is send your answer to the following question to laura@minneapolisfuckingrocks. com : If you were going to be on national television and had to sport one of the following, which would you choose: A mullet or parachute pants?

[MFR Presents] MFR welcomes Wild Beasts and Twin Sister to Minneapolis this Tuesday, October 4 at Varsity Theater (click here for details). We had the chance to speak with Tom Fleming of Wild Beasts and here's what he had to say: What originally inspired the band to grow? It was more about trying to do things your own way and needing more ideas in the pool. We were very naive, actually pretty fucking naive. The more [...]

I always feel super embarrassed when I stumble upon a song that I really enjoy and think "surely I am the first to find these guys," only to find out that they are a relatively successful overseas. (Exhibit A) Either way, better late than never, right? Here's a great band called Wild Beasts. This song, "Thankless Thing," isn't off of any of their albums, but came out on an EP they released for
Nevermind that the blogosphere's up-and-coming buzzed Twin Sister are opening, but Linlcon Hall will be housing four British lads Saturday evening for some fine indie rock. Wild Beasts ' Hayden Thorpe holds a falsetto that teeters along the edges of dream pop and indie rock. Think Bloc Party mixed with Penguin Prison , stripped of electronic or synthesized beats and supported by a much more lush, natural sound. Their latest album, Smother , was released last May as the follow-up to their Mercury Prize-nominated album, Two Dancers . Twin Sister [...]
