(photo by Molly Rodriguez) There's a feeling you get when listening to the quintet of 20-somethings from Houston called Wild Moccasins --a mix of freedom, unbreakable spirit and terribly reckless, that's so undeniable and effervescent, you can't help but wonder how it even exists in the present tense. It's almost like an Easter egg, a red herring that you have to squint to understand. But it's there. The kids are young, fresh-faced and rife with explosively subtle, fun-as-hell songs that incite riotous feelings, copious sweat and nevereverending smiles. It's the sort of thing we [...]

Well this is certainly long. I feel slightly bad to open with this, but it's by far the main thing that stands out to me about Fruit Tea by the Wild Moccasins . This Houston band have produced a song layered in so much indiepop goodness that it feels wrong to pick it up over something so trivial as the length. For the record, I should point out that "long" here is actually about five minutes. Now I'm not opposed to songs of this length, but Fruit Tea feels like the [...]

A cool new website, 29-95, is producing some good content on a regular basis. And they have Joe Mathlete as one of their writers. Woohoo! I am looking forward to more from this group of peeps over yonder. You can check out local events at their site.

There are some noticeable trends among the music that is sent to me via snail mail. More often than not, my suspicion is raised if a particular artist adorns their submission envelope with glittery excess. I listen to everything that comes my way eventually, so anything outside of the actual album is looked at for informational purposes and little else. Many of these groups appear to spend more time decorating the envelope than working on the album inside of it, thinking for some reason that I will enjoy something mediocre if it is more colorful or sparkling. There has been [...]

Escuchen, pasen [...]
Arkansas is home to the latest singer/songwriter to show a full rainbow of Chameleon colors, Chase Pagan . On his forthcoming album "Bells & Whistles", Chase displays everything from a soulful honk-tonk to a vibrant folk troubadour to a soaring falsetto. Complete with marching band horns, piano, pysc guitars, this album is diverse, but still simple at its core. Listen to: Life Garden ( mp3 ) Much like Chase Pagen, Linfinity displays many different styles while they jump through eras, show their influences, [...]

Texas quintet Wild Moccasins were introduced to me via email as "the best band you've never heard". I was, of course, intrigued, opened up the email, and clicked on the link to their bio first thing. The band is described as a group of 20 somethings with "a sound that balances a musical guile beyond the band's years with a vibrant energy that flaunts its youth." Having a combination of male-female vocals, the band is now a year old and recently showcased at the SXSW Music Festival in Austin. [...]

We'll be making our first return to Victory Grill since our SXSW showcase on Thursday night for the KVRX Pledge Drive Benefit Concert. The UT radio station is keeping it local with Austin bands Heartstring Stranglers , Breakfast Club Crew , Sohns , Wine & Revolution , Wild Moccasins , and DJ Car Stereo (Wars) all joining in for the nights events. A suggested $7 donation will be taken at the door which includes free BBQ and beer while supplies last. Things kick off around 8pm.

Texan band Wild Moccasins sound just as cute as their name implies. Started by Cody Swann (vocals, guitar) and his girlfriend Zahira Guiterrez (vocals, keys) a little over a year ago, the original musical direction changed from folk to pop as the band grew with additional members Nicholas Cody (bass), Andrew Ortiz (drums) and Andrew Lee (guitar). Despite not being around for very long Wild Moccasins have already opened for acts such as Tilly and The Wall, The Dodos, and Peter & The Wolf, as well as completed Microscopic Metronomes , their first record consisting of indie pop that's as fresh as a sunny Sunday morning. [...]
Tuesday, February 17, 2009 Today's Quick Mention: Yes. Instead of sharing some new tunes I decided to spend my President's Day making sure that my couch was still comfortable. It is. Thank whoever. On a related note, my Xbox 360 is as fun as I remembered. Time for another EP! Enjoy. : Tahiti Boy And The Palmtree Family - That Song : Going hand-in-hand with my lazy afternoon yesterday was this relaxing number from Tahiti Boy and the Palmtree [...]
