If last year was the year of the Aussies, then 2009 is the year of the Brits. London has returned to the spotlight as a hub of creativity this year and now we can add new rock act, WILD PALMS to the city's roster. If you're a fan of bands like These New Puritans that have that distinctive, very British sound, then WILD PALMS will strike your fancy. Postpunk vocal repetition and jagged shouts pierce clanging guitar on the quartet's exciting debut single, ....Over....Time. WILD PALMS are about to take off [...]

Quick one for you all today. This landed in my inbox last month and I've only just got around to checking it out. Wild Palms are releasing this track on Popular Recordings on 23rd November and it's a bit different from what I would usually post. It's got an eighties feel to it but beyond that I admit I don't know what I'm talking about. It's not an era that's a big favourite of mine but I like this track and I can feel the influences coming through. Anyway, I'm tired, that's all the gibberish you're getting today. [...]
You might not remember Oliver Stone's short-lived foray into oddball TV drama, but these dudes do. The now ex-Ex-Lion Tamers return as Wild Palms and this jerky dissection of a corroded coupling is their first single. Join them for the launch party on 26/11.

words: Jamie Milton The writers at MFM are positively up to their necks in new music at the moment, especially considering we're mere weeks away from listing our top tips for the new decade. So it seemed worthy of compressing some of the songs we've been playing into one, succinct blog post. For your reading pleasure, here are some of the best new bands and some of the most exciting songs from more established acts. ---------------------------- The Dead Weather - I Cut Like A Buffalo [...]
WILD PALMS We predict that this band are going to split you lot down the middle. It's not that there's anything wrong or that we're not recommending without our usual thorough conviction, but there's a sharp bite and a pair of bollocks that come with this north London four piece. Their daring mix of originality alongside their obvious retro gothic rock influences is precisely what camp dividing is made of. It is similarly their ability to not only take from the old, but add in a key fresh new ingredient, that so many other [...]

North London four-piece WILD PALMS are a band I've quickly fallen for in a big way since reading about them in Dazed a while back. Whilst they do have an air of familiarity in their sound (perhaps something akin to what These New Puritans would sound like if they focused less on pretension and more on musicianship), there's something really refreshing, gripping and almost consuming in their music. WILD PALMS come across as a band who aren't about the bright lights, the huge deals or the spot [...]
