I mentioned earlier today that Wild Sweet Orange will be playing with The Whigs and The Broken West at the Rock For Riley show at Birdy's Nightclub tonight. Well, more good news for the band and their fans... They will be releasing an EP called The Whale on their own label, Nervous Blood, on November 6th, and then Canvasback Music (Columbia [...]

The next big thing from Athens, The Whigs are on tour with their own brand of southern indie-rock. Merge Records artist The Broken West , who have been featured on prime-time TV shows, joins them as well as Alabama's Wild Sweet Orange . Be sure to check them out this weekend. 10/26: The Khyber , Philly 10/27: Rock and Roll Hotel , DC The Whigs - Violet Furs The Broken West - Down In The West Wild Sweet Orange - Ten [...]

It's like Christmas in August. If you've attended conferences for work before, surely we've all collected the same array of doodads and logo-covered items over the years. But I've never experienced quite the excitement that I get tucked inside a nondescript canvas bag at the registration table for the Boulder music summit. Instead of letter openers and stress balls, I find enough sampler CDs and random little EPs to sate me for quite a while (even a Modest Mouse 7"! Yeehaw). Many of these artists are buzz bands that I keep hearing about, and going through [...]
Wild Sweet Orange is going to be on tour with some impressive company this Fall. They'll be rolling around with The Whigs and The Broken West . That can't suck - especially because the guys in both those bands are really awesome as individuals on top of being great musicians. OK, enough of my thoughts on that...these guys are from Birmingham, Alabama and can't escape their southern folk/rock/pop roots, nor should they! Great melodies. Based on what I've seen of them [...]
Since I am going away for the weekend, I won't be able to post my normal weekend mix. Instead of waiting until Monday to post it, I will post it today! I have been getting a lot of new music and listening to many different things, but these are all songs that I have playing on repeat on my mp3 player: Vampire Weekend - A-Punk The Vita Ruins - Godspeed To That Polytheist [...]
Wild Sweet Orange have been featured on I Rock Cleveland a couple times over the past year. They're still from Birmingham, AL, they're still cranking out compelling tunes, and to the best of my knowledge, they're still unsigned and have yet to release a proper debut. Their latest number, "Land of No Return," popped up on myspace the other day. It came with a note that it was recently featured in an episode of Gray's Anatomy during a "dramatic moment." Yeah, I'll admit it. An appearance in a prime time drama makes Wild Sweet Orange dangerously close to [...]

This morning I'm serving up three tracks from three realtievely unknown artists. Each artist and each track in the mix comes highly recommended by the genius at IRCWHQ. "Ten Dead Dogs" by Birmingham, Alabama's Wild Sweet Orange is a song that has taken over my sound system the last couple days. Admittedly, Birmingham is not one of the fanciest addresses for aspiring rockers. Don't let that dissuede you. In "Ten Dead Dogs" you'll hear traces of American roots music and nineties alternative rock, along side powerful and poignant [...]
