I'm one of the lucky ones. I don't have to spend the next couple of months worrying about whether or not Oliver Wilde's debut LP can match the promise of his staggeringly good early singles. I don't write this as a "ha ha ha! I have the album suckers!" statement, I just want to reassure you that everything is fine. You're in a big pair of safe hands. A Brief Introduction To Unnatural Light Years is one of the best debut albums I've heard in an age; and even better than I hoped it [...]

April arrived with all the signs of being one of the better local music months of the year, and for the most part it delivered. Although in fairness, much of the credit needs to be placed in the hands of records that arrived unexpectedly. Yes, there was excellent new music from such eagerly-awaited sources as Hawks , Slowriter , Halmos and Christ, Lord , but the month just wouldn't have been the same if Cult Relic , Bambara , Turf War and Tanner Merritt hadn't also dropped [...]

Another week, another new song from the Wild . This time it's the driving and cathartic "Riverside," which just seems to spill joyously from your speakers, a rollicking heap of galloping drums, roiling cowpunk guitars and shout-along vocals. It's yet another full-blooded rager, one which will only help fuel anticipation for the group's upcoming LP, the Laura Jane Grace-produced Dreams Are Maps , due out May 21 via Asian Man Records . Stream the song now on Alternative Press . More Info: Web: www.thewildatl.com [...]

If you haven't familiarized yourself with Gorgon City yet, it's time to do so now. The North London duo have caught the attention of tastemakers like Diplo and Annie Mac , and are already included amongst star-studded acts on lineups like HARD Summer 2013. They have a unique ability to bring together the sounds of house, garage and bass music to create innovative and stand-out productions. Their latest take on Basement Jaxx's "Back 2 The Wild" is a straightforward deep house cut. It's an undercurrent of wobbly basslines, vocal spouts, robotic noises, and crisp piano work [...]

On the heels of the band's latest single, "Songs By Heart," here's another infectious fist-pumper from the the Wild to get your blood stirring. Pulled from the group's forthcoming full-length effort Dreams Are Maps , the song gallops along at a jaunty pace courtesy of some propulsive drumming and fiery punk-gone-country guitars, but as per usual, it's the anthemic vocals that cut through your speakers and demand your attention. Give it a listen below. Dreams Are Maps is due out May 21st via Asian Man [...]

Courtesy of New Noise Magazine, here's a new single from local punk outfit the Wild taken from their upcoming full-length, Dreams Are Maps , due out May 21st via Asian Man Records . I've only given "Songs By Heart" a couple of spins, but I can already feel its considerable hooks digging deep into me. Fans both old and new should certainly find plenty to like as the band delivers a ferociously catchy, heart-on-sleeve missive about fighting past the darkness that often enshrouds our lives in order to embrace the light on the other [...]

Words by Sammy Maine Howling Owl Records have had a busy year. Following on from the success of last year's Record Store Day special release, the label have added more gems to their roster and decided it's only fair to showcase their latest talent with another release to celebrate the annual day of fun. The title, ' Music is Dead Vol. 1 ' practically flips a virtual bird to the music industry. This is a label that do it for the love, with a truly DIY approach to any [...]

One of the UK house scene’s godfathers make a welcome return with a brand new track. Basement Jaxx have long since established themselves as one of the country’s most impressive and imaginative production teams and ‘Back 2 The Wild’ is quintessential Jaxx – a super heavyweight groove that’s still catchy as hell, incorporating roaring lions, tribal horns recorded in Kenya and vocals by two Korean Seoul Sisters Miss Emma Lee & Baby Chay, ‘Back 2 The Wild’ is a club monster that sounds like the Tom Tom Club headlining a Hackney Wick warehouse.

So on Wednesday, lunch time, I sat down on a lovely sunny day and had a chat with indie rock, hip-hop fusion trio The Wyld. The Wyld are very much loved on this blog, and ever since their album Preface came out last year, I have been a big fan. So it was a huge honour to meet these guys and get to know them a little better. The Wyld are currently in a phase between albums recording new material and being awesome. At the gig they played [...]
Boyish Brit neo-folk songwriter Lewis Watson will be releasing his third EP The Wild on April 2, the follow up to his earlier Four Sad Songs and the creatively titled sequel, Another Four Sad Songs . While we're sure the idea of Yet Another Four Sad Songs may have crossed his mind, were also guessing that perhaps we're wading into some decidedly non-sad territory here, particularly with the wonderful "Into the Wild" where Watson waxes poetic with "there's a beautiful storm in your eyes" and "we're beautifully [...]
Every once in a while we get sent something that reminds us just why we all bother with any of this business. Made lovingly with two years of secrecy, projectors, puppets and a hand-made village, this surreal animation by Lauren Orme for Oliver Wilde's Pinch swirls in dreaming landscapes, a strange romance and a mystical animal party. Enjoy... FACEBOOK
LessThan3: Any upcoming projects you're working on? Lauren Lane: Well I just got married! I actually met Craig here a few years ago, so that's been pretty time-consuming and my production has taken a back-burner. I'm kind of sad that that's all finished, but now I get to go back to working in the studio. I have a few tracks that are 90% finished, so in the next few months they should be out on labels. LessThan3: Are you collaborating with anyone? [...]
Half British, half Norwegian Thea Glenton Raknes - former lead vocalist of Norma Sass – eschews the conventional model of glossy female led Scandinavian pop in favour of a rougher, though no less charmingly melodic sound with her latest project, Thea & The Wild . The Oslo dwelling outfit recently debuted their video for ‘Cry Sometimes’, a brooding, bluesy number carved asunder by incessantly buzzing guitars, ahead of their debut show at by:Larm this week. Thea’s sunny vocal hook of “ Babe I think it’s good to cry sometimes ” clambers aloft over [...]

Words by Sammy Maine ' Curve ' is the first taster from Oliver Wilde's debut album ' A Brief Introduction to Unnatural Lightyears ' released later this year on Howling Owl records . Available as a free download and accompanied by a beautifully cinematic video, this is a seriously special single. It's no secret that I'm a little bit in love with Oliver Wilde. Ever since his breath-taking performance at last year's Fear of Fiction festival, this gentle giant has had my ears firmly fixed on his mix of [...]
Crossover dance tracks are arguably best swung in an unrestrained and rather unhinged fashion, as they almost exclusively are when bracketed beneath the Shangaan electro epithet. It's a genre with which longterm viber Richard ‘Nozinja’ Mthethwa is inextricably linked having first spawned this most idiosyncratic of stylisations (itself a crossover between rudimentary Casio-esque tones and the more traditional hues of the marimba) back in 2005, though rarely has he executed it to such dramatically invigorating effect as it is here, the Limpopo native adopting the disguise of Xitsonga Dance for a limited 123 release on Dan [...]

Pittsburgh punk trio Run, Forever recently released their second LP, Settling , via Tiny Engines . It's been over a year since the band last released any new music, and they're celebrating the new album by setting out on a tour with labelmates State Lines. The tour hits Kansas City's Art Closet Studios for a show with Emo Side Project on Sunday, January 13. Singer and guitarist Anthony Heubel spoke with us via e-mail about the new record, touring, and cats. Run, Forever's sound swings back [...]
