I don't know about you, but after a long hard Wednesday, there is only one thing that can soothe my savage beast of a soul: street gang-related hi-jinks. Luckily Wildlife has me covered with their new video for Sea Dreamer off of their amazingly well received last album, Strike Hard Young Diamond . The video features the band messing with girls, doing some parking lot bowling, and it culminates with a good ol' fashioned brawl with a rival gang. I enjoyed it's Warriors-esque vibe, you may as well. You can catch Wildlife here in [...]

Toronto's Wildlife had a pretty good 2011. Touring all over North America in support of their debut record Strike Hard, Young Diamond and doing a session for Daytrotter . Hopefully the band will have a great 2012. I still haven't seen them live yet but I did manage to do a interview with the band back on February 4, 2011 . The band drop their music video for Sea Dreamer and was premiered on MuchMusic (Do people still watch that channel? ) If you like rival [...]
Wildlife is a five-pice from around Ontario and their goal is to make really fun songs with lots of pop, rock and catchy melodies. But I tell you it's a wild life on Toronto's streets. If your gang isn't tough enough you're going down the hard way. So many problems for Wildlife, happily their debut LP Strike Hard, Young Diamond is out and they have time to kick some rival gangs' ass now. Wildlife - Facebook
Toronto's Wildlife have been working hard promoting and supporting their record Strike Hard, Young Diamond . They've now got a new video for the album track "Sea Dreamer" that should help things along quite nicely. Check it out, complete with the least intimidating street gang ever, here: Wildlife play Lee's Palace in Toronto on March 22nd as part of CMW .

We all know I hate Best of Lists that come out before the year is over so nearly 4 weeks into 2012 I finally present my best albums of 2011! (Still a day faster than last year !) Below are the top 10 albums from my 2011 followed by 10 honorable mentions. The list was compiled by weighing total play counts along with longevity. Not only did I listen to it a lot, but was I still reaching for it months after the honeymoon phase. These are those albums. Since I can't be bothered to rank these [...]

The nominees for the 84th Academy Awards were just announced and somewhere beneath the chatter of who swept and who got snubbed are a few handfuls of largely ignored shorts nominees. Whatever it says about my attention span, I'm a big fan of the short film, but access can be problematic. Unless you're a big film festival junkie, most of these shorts never surface elsewhere. When was the last time you watched the Oscars and had seen ANY of the shorts nominees? If your answer was never, this year you're in luck. As of [...]
Words // Scott Pingeton Yesterday's post was truly new music. Today's post is new-to-me music. What the two have in common is that they're catchy-as-hell unabashed indie rock anthems from the Great White North. Toronto's Wildlife dropped their debut album in November, and the lead track is "Stand In The Water", a song that adds layers upon layers of sounds - acoustic guitars, crunch electric fuzz, a pounding beat, soaring synths and gang vocals. It's a sound that reminds me of two other Canadian bands you may have heard of... [...]

It always seems like we should show the illustrators and authors of children's books more love. Personally, I credit folks like Dr. Seuss, Eric Carle, Bill Watterson, Maurice Sendak and Shel Silverstein for stretching out my imagination as far as it would go when I was a kid. I suppose what distinguishes the great from good in that category are the books you can flip through fifteen or twenty years later and still be blown away by their creativity or their power to convey complex ideas in deceptively simple ways. Whether or not it's intended as a children's [...]

Technically, Strike Hard, Young Diamond came out in November of 2010, but it occupied much of my listening during early 2011. When this site was more active and I got more random e-blasts from bands, I did my best to sample a bit of each I received. Wildlife was a find through some successful PR assault; offering up a few song sampler via their bandcamp. At a quick glance, I was content enough in the fact that lead singer Dean Povinsky's voice has a similar tone to Sunset Rubdown's Spencer Krug. There's also similarities [...]
Sometimes it takes a video like this to remind us how little we know. Us humans think we're so superior, the masters of our domains some would say. But if you put us in the ocean, what would happen? Wrap City Records. That's why I've got love for all the sea creatures out there. The starfish out there shining. The sea otters holding it down. And the mimic octopus, one of the ocean's greatest magicians. Able to alter its appearance to mimic other animals depending on the situation, it's hard not to write off the octopus' abilities as [...]

A new video from La Dispute in support of the band's new album, Wildlife , which I reviewed right here and threw on the LOVED LIST . Find this album now on No Sleep Records . / via /

I'm totally stoked to share some amazing new sounds with everyone today! Fabian who has never stopped exceeding all expectations has elevated and levitated his sound to a whole new level. His new single gives us something real crispy for us dance music lovers. This sounds like something we would all expect from Afrojack if he took up Nu Disko, or if Moullinex and Mr. Afrojack did some sort of hybrid collabo of the century! The sound is infectious and only makes me want MORE! We can't wait to hear more tracks like this [...]
Walk West One Fall afternoon in '07 we came home from work and a new camera we ordered had arrived. We took it out and captured these images. Walked from Noble Square to Loop, train up to East Wicker, what...

There seem to be two versions of Joe Cardamone that exist in the world. A couple of hours after we speak backstage at King Tut's Wah Wah Hut in Glasgow, we see that there's one version onstage; howling, spitting, strutting topless like prime Iggy Pop, looking every bit the unapproachable rock god. Two hours before that, I speak to a Joe Cardamone who orders a goat's cheese salad as a pre-gig meal, drinks ginger beer and is a charming and engaging interviewee. But, if you know the history of Los Angeles' Icarus Line , you'll know to expect the [...]
