Bonnie “Prince” Billy – Wolfroy Goes to Town. Download “Quail & Dumplings” (mp3). Will Oldham has released music under numerous monikers since the early 90s. Since 1998, most of his released music has been as Bonnie “Prince” Billy, but it’s been a few years since he released a full-length album under that name. Wolfroy Goes to Town features 10 songs of Oldham’s typical mellow, practical music. With the addition of guests (Ben Boye, Van Campbell, Shahzad Ismaily, Emmett Kelly, Danny Kiely, and Angel Olsen), Oldham’s tranquil, unwavering voice shines at its best on these minimal, [...]
If the name Brent Green and the Wex sound familiar in the same sentence , it's because you probably followed my advice and went to see "Gravity Was Everywhere Back Then" last August. This charmingly awkward and ominously tragic film is based on the life of Leonard Wood, a Louisville hardware store clerk who renovates his house into what he believes to be a "healing machine" to keep his terminally ill wife alive. It is Green's first venture into the full-length feature world (an impressive one at that) AND he built a full-sized replica of this [...]
Bonnie 'Prince' Billy aka Will Oldham on yksi niistä arteista, jotka saavat minut toistuvasti hyvälle tuulelle. Tällä kertaa suupieliin tuo liikettä oheinen Quail and Dumplings -single/video, joka kannattaa ehdottomasti katsoa loppuun saakka. Videolla voi bongata myös laulaja-lauluntekijä Nina Nastasian heilumassa nuotion äärellä. Kappale löytyy 4. lokakuuta ilmestyvältä Wolfroy Goes to Town -levyltä. www.youtube.com/watch?v=fI1o1z L3jao
Oh shit! How stoked are we? This Bonnie "Prince" Billy video stars Nina Nastasia, who once released an album with Jim White on drums that is pretty phenomenal and for some reason being passed around ... read more

In late August, Bonnie 'Prince' Billy digitally released the single "Quail And Dumplings" and now that song has a video directed by Ben Berman. It's an island survivor story, and though it doesn't feature any talking volleyballs, it does feature Nina Nastasia! The song is from Billy's forthcoming LP, Wolfroy Goes To Town . Read More...

Video: Bonnie “Prince” Billy - Quail and Dumplings Will Oldham unveiled the first single off his forthcoming Bonnie “Prince” Billy LP, Wolfroy Goes to Town , today via the above Ben Berman-directed clip, in which past collaborator Kennan Gudjonsson is washed ashore a desert island before being nursed back to health by grass skirt-donning locals and sent back to sea on a makeshift raft. The biggest highlight though — both of the tune and video — is when Gudjonsson partner Nina Nastasia lip-syncs Angel Olsen’s lead [...]

Ever since this May’s Paul Simon cover songs collection, a follow-up starring Bruce Springsteen — a figure similarly oft-cited as inspiration to our favorite indie acts — has been in the works. The hard part, though, has been that there are dozens of versions of the Boss floating around, some brilliant and others falling a bit short despite showing plenty of reverence for their hero. Given Frightened Rabbit’s recent tribute to the blue-collar icon and Kurt Vile’s forthcoming studio take on “Downbound Train,” now feels like a good time to compile the best or [...]

As it turns out, our favorite Merle Haggard fan , Will Oldham, does have a new LP on the way after all: Wolfroy Goes to Town , the forthcoming 10-track set features Bonnie “Prince” Billy’s excellent recent touring band of Ben Boye, Van Campbell, Shahzad Ismaily, Emmett Kelly, Danny Kiely, and Angel Olsen . (This lineup put on one of the best intimate shows I’ve ever seen last year at a 200-capacity chapel.) The LP, which is due out via Drag City on October 4, dons the cover art above and tracklist below. [...]

Bonnie “Prince” Billy Covers Merle Haggard Earlier this summer, Spiritual Pajamas released their inaugural limited 7”, Haggard Harper Bonnie , which features Will Oldham, as Bonnie “Prince” Billy, covering “Because of Your Eyes,” a late-career gem by Merle Haggard, along with Roy Harper’s 1974 Valentine cut “I’ll See You Again.” While we heard a snippet of the A-side at the time, now the full ode to enduring love can be streamed in full above. Speaking of Oldham’s affection for Haggard, [...]

Tweet For years I've had friends continually tell me how great Will Oldham's Bonnie "Prince" Billy songs are and with all honesty I haven't always agreed. There are always exceptions and "New Wonder" is one of them. I'm not exactly sure why this song stands out to me as being far more impressive than the majority of his previous work, I know it has something to do with the clarity of the message within the lyrics but that's not entirely it. Watch the video [...]

Trailer: This Must Be the Place Will Oldham penned lyrics while David Byrne provided music and a cameo performance for Paolo Sorrentino’s new film, This Must Be the Place , starring Sean Penn as a Robert Smith-esque aging rock star seeking to avenge his father’s persecution at the hands of an ex-Nazi. An unusual teaser reel surfaced in April, but now a more representative, official preview of the odd dramedy has arrived. Check out the trailer above ( via the Playlist ), which includes Irish songwriter Michael Brunnock — who recorded [...]

Who knows where Will Oldham will turn up next… The latest recording from Bonnie “Prince” Billy comes courtesy of “The Natural State,” a news piece aired on radio stations over the weekend about “a swarm of mysterious earthquakes beginning last fall along an ancient and heretofore unknown fault” in Faulkner County, Arkansas. Some believe the quakes were catalyzed by thousands of natural gas wells having been hydro-fractured or “fracked” in the area since 2005. Oldham worked closely with producers Dan Collison and Elizabeth Meister on this episode of “Songs and Stories,” penning “Mother Nature Kneels,” a somber [...]
Bonnie “Prince” Billy Releases Merle Haggard, Everly Brothers Covers Not only has Will Oldham written a new Merle Haggard-inspired song , but Bonnie “Prince” Billy and friends have been covering a Haggard classic of late: “Because of Your Eyes,” a gorgeous love song from the outlaw country legend that was reworked for the inaugural release from Spiritual Pajamas — folkYEAH! ’s new label — backed by Bonnie’s take on Roy Harper’s “I’ll See You Again.” You can pick up one of the limited 7-inch copies due next week here [...]
Their first collaboration on record since 20052s Superwolf, Matt Sweeney and Will Oldham just released "I Must Be Blind" on 103 vinyl with "Life In Muscle" on the flip. I ran into Sweeney last month in New Orleans and followed up this week to get the skinny on his and Oldham's collaborative history, creative process, [...]
