New BK-One, Mason Jennings releases new video & an update on Har Mar Superstar's forthcoming album.
[ download ] With its quiet confidence and sleeper status, Will Stratton 's 2007 debut, What the Night Said , was one of those records a listener feels downright blessed to come across, the humble but unmistakable announcement of a singular talent arriving. At nineteen, Stratton already appeared a mastermind, pairing a powerful command of lyricism with potent songwriting and a producer's sense of how to best animate his compositions with depth and deft. Now twenty-two and nearing the end of his collegiate studies at Bennington, Stratton is prepared to release what [...]

Vermont is taking over the world, or maybe that's just my life this past week, or I suppose my relationship with it is stronger than I remembered. Our other pal Will Stratton has released a new EP, Vile Bodies . There is something about fall that demands that everything slow down, and for me Vile Bodies fits right in to the shift. These new songs seem more delicate and intricate to me than his past work, or perhaps the real word I'm looking for here is personal. There is an overwhelming sense of [...]

Sorry, I am not available for blogging today. Under the weather (Blog Flu - kinda like the real flu and causes a slow movement and yearning to do nothing) and will start posting soon - so not exactly a real "full" post today. Do not fret, still great music to listen to...sheesh, I not that lame. Will Stratton's new album will be out in June this year. Teaser below. ~Smansmith p.s. Frickin' loved Will's "What The Night Said" album from 2007. One of the best of the 2007 fo sho - check [...]

First off... Pandora.com . Go there, register, and listen to the best internet radio has to offer. Well, maybe not the best, but it's great. Just type in someone like Ben Folds and it plays Ben Folds and all kinds of other bands that are eerily accurate in comparison to Folds. I can't get enough of it. I've been on a crazy singer/songwriter fix since first hearing Fionn Regan's amazing album The End of History . Will Stratton kind of came out of nowhere, but I'm definitely not complaining. Stratton's music is [...]

Will Stratton's debut CD, What the Night Said , released just last month, has a theme of nighttime, both as a period of reflection and peace and of regret and disquiet. But mostly, the stars are out and shining, and the atmosphere is warm. The album works nicely for any time a listener feels like music that calms and comforts. What the Night Said is generally made up of light and gentle compositions on piano, which Stratton has played since age 5, and guitar with clear and pleasant vocals. [...]

I wasn't feeling very well today so couldn't spend the time I wanted to on this post. I wish I had more time to research and write about these bands/artists. This is the kind of indie music that needs the exposure and is well worth a listen. Check them out, spread the word, and buy their music. Another fantastic entry for our Word on the Beat series. Will Stratton is a gifted singer/songwriter from NJ. He's about to release his debut CD on Stunning Models on Display . Want a review? Read our thoughts on the record here . Anyone who listens to Will's songs would guess he's a Nick Drake fan, so much so that he chose to talk about how's Nick's style affects his music. About six months ago, Will Stratton sent me a few songs, and I've been listening to those ("Sunol," "I'd Hate To Leave You") off and on since then. But then, just last week, Will's such a swell guy, he sent me his fully-complete brand new album, What The Night Said , out soon on Stunning Models On Display . Will seems to have the skills when it comes to writin' them soft and pretty kinda songs. And Sufjan guests on the record playing oboe, but I won't give away which tracks he plays [...]
