Yep, I am most definitely late on this one. I don't understand how I have not listened to this bearded mellow fellow more often, and trust me, such a thought now gives me deep regret. But presenting him to you on a Friday makes me happy, as he's the perfect sound to wind your week down. In the same vein as Michigan era Sufjan Stevens, Sam Beam (surprise, surprise) and Ray LaMontagne comes William Fitzsimmons , an Illinois singer-songwriter by way of Pittsburgh, PA. Fitzsimmons is an interesting story, one that inspires and enchants. Per [...]
Folk - It's a shame that close to half of modern American marriages end in divorce, and it's a shame few divorces yield a work of art as endearing as The Sparrow And The Crow , William Fitzsimmons ' stirring album chronicling his split from his wife. Unabashedly personal and unflinchingly honest, The Sparrow... spins a dozen tales of love, longing, and loss with titles like "I Don't Feel It Anymore," "They'll Never Take The Good Years," and "If You Would Come Back Home." Like fellow sensitive beardos Ray Lamontagne, Sam Beam (Iron and Wine) and [...]
We here at SubT Towers would like to offer the slow clap to William Fitzsimmons for A) almost making us wish it was autumn while we are are on the cusp of spring and for B) not killing himself whilst making this song/video. That's certainly not a slight to the languid beauty of "If You Would Come Back Home", it's just that we've have one too many therapy-worthy break ups to have gotten through both the recording and shooting of something so melancholy.
Directed by Josh Franer , the video for "If You Would Come Back Home" takes us on a moving journey through William's painful separation with his loved one. The music accompanies the visual with perfect balance & harmony, adding to the epic nature of the song. William Fitzsimmons' The Sparrow And The Crow will be released on April 7th, 2009 on Downtown's Mercer Street Records. William Fitzsimmons | Myspace | Tour Dates | Buy
< We've long been championing William Fitzsimmons and were thrilled to see him pop up as the latest Pitchfork.tv premiere above. Wisconsin folks can catch William at Lake Pepin Art & Design Center in Pepin, Wisconsin on Wednesday, March 14th . I'm not even sure where that is, but it sounds like a good time. Buy: William Fitzsimmons - The Sparrow And The Crow ++ Myspace: [...]

He bears a startling resemblance to one of our favorite bearded acoustic soulsters , but William Fitzsimmons is charting a course all his own. For starters, he's a licensed mental health professional. Last year, he had a no. 1 album on iTunes and no record label. And to top it all off, he even managed to write an album about a divorce that doesn't make you want to run into traffic or run for the stop button. Just signed to Downtown Records' newly launched imprint Mercer Street, Fitzsimmons' first studio [...]

Last but not least. Bon [...]

Everyone else is doing it so why shouldn't I? That's right, listmania 2008 is finally here and what I've got to present to you here is the first half of my favorite albums of the year. Love 'em or hate 'em, these are the albums that made the cut. I decided to stick with a list of 50 this year mainly because that's what I've done in the past and also because 2008 was a really great year for new music and narrowing down the list to fewer than this just seemed unfair. [...]
I would like to welcome everyone to a week of "Bests" from good friends on the old Slowcoustic Blogroll. I am honoured to have all 5 days (Monday through Friday) this week dedicated to what my fellow bloggers think are some of the best things they have found this past year. As previously mentioned the five blogs will each get their own day in the spotlight here on Slowcoustic, and I am extremely excited about it. To not take anything away, let's get on with it and unveil Day 1. The week of [...]

So here we are. Best albums of 2008. Good year I have to say, I may have contenders for best of decade that come from this very year - good sign, no? Disclaimer - While I tend to convince myself that I know music, I only know what I hear and actually take the time to really dig my teeth into. That being said, I am always correct and I take criticism terribly. There is always something I discover too late to move up the list or something I forget all [...]
So if you like beards I can almost guarantee that you'll like William Fitzsimmons as he seems to be a beard master. Seriously though, I realize it is a pretty blunt comparison, but if you like the hushed folk music Sufjan Steven's Seven Swans I can almost guarantee that you'll like the latest album from Jacksonville, Illinios' William Fitzsimmons , The Sparrow And The Crow . The album heartbreakingly documents (in song) Fitzsimmons' recent divorce and is (at times) almost uncomfortably intimate. Based around sparse drum beats, acoustic guitar, banjo, piano, occasional female [...]

In conjunction with Paste Magazine , we're helping welcome William Fitzsimmons to Madison's Cafe Montmartre ( Friday, November 21st ) and Chicago's House of Blues ( Saturday, November 22nd ). A must see for anyone who considers themselves fans of Sufjan Stevens or Iron & Wine . We've got four (4) pairs of tickets for both the Madison and Chicago dates to giveaway . If you're interested, drop a comment with "Chicago" or "Madison" and [...]

~dropofnothing I don't easily fall for whats-hot-and-whats-in-kind of music. I tell you. Im an INDIE addict. From Indie-pop to indie-rock, indie-folk/pop just name it. What you always hear in the mainstream isn't what music is all about. There are but nameless bands and artists that do not get the loving they ought to have for it is not what is usually heard in the airwaves. So show some justice people. Love Indie. End of Sermon. Silje Nes Do i just love foreign songs that [...]

If you are looking for some new music to chill out to, you should give William Fitzsimmons a listen. His lo-fi sound and arrangements, which bring to mind Sufjan Stevens, Iron & Wine, and Joshua Radin, are undeniably beautiful. His release a few weeks ago, The Sparrow and the Crow , is a personal reflection of his recent divorce. Fitzsimmons' background makes his music that much more interesting. He was born in Pittsburgh to two blind parents, and their house was "suffused with pianos, guitars, trombones, talking birds, classical records, family sing-a-longs, bedtime stories, and the bellowing [...]

This new William Fitzsimmons record is a brutal listen the first couple of times around. Breakup song after breakup song...I urge you to proceed with caution if you are in any sort of relationship turmoil...this won't help things. Gorgeous songs, but man is it melancholy in song form. The Sparrow And The Crow is the album...consider yourselves warned. William Fitzsimmons - 'They Can Never Take The Good Years' MP3 And also...just because I was thinking of it...my favorite song of his, which is on his 'Until We [...]

I guess music just means what we need it to mean at the time, despite what it may or may not be actually saying. It speaks to a portion of us that resides below the surface, unseen and visceral, emotional and uncontrollable. William Fitzsimmons has been here before, 13 months ago, and has done some pondering since. Done some losing and some winning. Done a lot of things. Most relevant to you and me, he recorded an album. An album that may contain the secrets of joys and tears we thought we'd never [...]

Remember William Fitzsimmons and his big beard? We took a liking to Goodnight and had a 5 question chat with him as well. Fans of his earlier output in addition to anyone who calls themselves a fan of Sufjan Stevens or early Iron & Wine records would definitely want to check out William's latest, The Sparrow And The Crow . Delivered with gentle string arrangements and whispered vocals, you can now preview 5 tracks for the new record [...]
Singer-songwriter William Fitzsimmons says this about his beautiful album The Sparrow and the Crow : Love is a wonderfully fragile and yet exceedingly weighty thing. And although we must carry the hurt we cause another, we are likewise able to always retain the love that is given to us and the love that we unreservedly give away. And so, it is my sincere wish that [...]
