On Wednesday night's "Jimmy Kimmel Live," our gracious host had director J.J. Abrams as a guest to promote this weekend's release of "Star Trek into Darkness." Although, given the New York Times's unflattering review of the sequel, perhaps this explains why "JKL" steered Abrams directly into a line of questioning about his upcoming "Star Wars: Episode VII" project. And, since Abrams and his Bad Robot crew are in the early developmental stages of the SW sequel, Kimmel and his fan boy audience took this as an opportunity to spit-ball the director with ideas he [...]
Former Star Trek star William Shatner gives an update on his upcoming Billy Sherwood-produced studio project, including the album title. "I laid down 13 tracks," Shatner tells KTLA, "with lyrics which I have written - and the music to which he is writing. We're getting great soloists from all over. Right now the album is named Red Shift, after the [...]

Asking any Star Trek fan who their favourite captain will always result in mixed answers. Cisco and Janeway rarely make the cut, and the less said about Archer the better - it will usually come down to Picard and Kirk. Personally, as much as I respect Picard, it's always going to be Kirk for me, and that's because William Shatner in no way takes himself seriously, and I love him for it. With just three weeks to go until release, Shatner has once again brought his own brand of self effacing [...]

We learned last month that the IRS maintains a full-scale TV studio at a cost of $4 million a year to U.S. tax payers when House Majority Leader Eric Cantor listed it as a line item in his suggestions for "common sense cuts" on non-essential spending. Now we see what kind of projects are getting green-lighted over at IRS Studios: Last week the below "Star Trek" spoof started making the rounds online. The IRS made it as a training video for new employees. It doesn't exactly have the production value of the original "Star Trek", but [...]
From whom is William Shatner receiving fellatio in this candid screen cap?
Ever wonder what someone like William Shatner or Lewis Hamilton listen to when driving? Or did ever consider what would be in your list of Top 10 Driving songs? Before you do that, lets get into the right mindset. It’s about an hour into the journey and two unpleasant thoughts assail you: firstly you realize, not for the first time, Radio stations all seem to play the same stuff, over and over again and secondly, you’re heart sinks as you realize for the umpteenth time that you still haven’t synced your iTunes or Spotify subscription with your phone [...]

I spent the last weekend wandering around the annual San Diego Comic-Con blessed with a free pass on my L.A. RECORD credentials. Based on the time honored principle that if something’s worth doing, it’s worth doing drunk, I headed over to the local Ralph’s and mixed myself a whiskey coke, glugged down about half of it, and strode over to the Roger Corman / William Shatner panel, hosted by the “King of Geeks,” Kevin Smith. Honestly I was pretty amazed we even got in, as any of these men on their own could hold an audience with several thousand nerds. [...]

Today, the world lost a science fiction icon as groundbreaking author Ray Bradbury passed away at age 91. Nearly every teenager has read his short novel Fahrenheit 451 (and rightly so!), and his countless award-winning stories, some of which comprised the sci-fi classics The Martian Chronicles and The Illustrated Man , continue to impact writers of all genres. The influence of his stories and novels spreads far beyond books, though, as his narratives, characters and ideas pervade movies and even music as well. Artists who cite or credit Bradbury include Pixies' Frank Black, [...]

Ben Folds has had himself quite a prolific career. The world first became familiar with his quirky brand of alternative piano-rock through his band with Robert Sledge and Darren Jessee, Ben Folds Five . After their three albums and a rarities compilation, Folds went on to add three more LPs and and an equal number of EPs to his catalog under his own name. Tack on his numerous collaborations with the likes of William Shatner, Regina Spektor, author Nick Hornby, Amanda Palmer, and more, plus his work on films, and it’s clear Folds’ cup over flows with material. [...]

Seeking Major Tom is a sleek dog that's fallen in the swimming pool and doesn't deal well with the extra weight. It stumbles awkwardly around the kitchen knocking over chairs, stopping every once in a while to shake its paws miserably. As PopMatters' Mike Schiller wrote of William Shatner's Has Been in 2004, "somehow, it just might be the pop album of the year". It was sweet, genuine, and engaging; Shatner's take on "Common People" alone was worth the price of admission. Has Been wasn't perfect, but it was a marked change for Shatner, whose musical "legacy" at [...]

William Shatner has responded to Carrie Fisher 's unfavorable comments and her heated Star Trek versus Star Wars debate. In a video called, “Dearest Carrie…”, the 80 year-old Shatner seemed particularly annoyed by Fisher’s comments about his weight. “What is she, 39? I’m a lot older than that. Wait until you’re my age Carrie Fisher.see how much weight you gain,” Shatner joked. “As for you in a bikini and me in my original costume, I don’t know whether [...]
