Pay Heed And Disbelieve This amazing song is from a 1982 double album called The Winning Hand that features Willie Nelson, Kris Kristofferson, Dolly Parton, and Brenda Lee (duets and solos). The song is just loaded with 1982 production values, but in my opinion it's a rare case of them adding to a song. Willie's done many versions since then (notably on Teatro ), but he originally recorded this song in 1964. In the midst of the laughter he cries Pretty Paper is a good Christmas break-up song. Written by Willie Nelson during his songwriter days, it was recorded by Roy Orbison in 1963. Willie later recorded his own version. I prefer Willie's version, which really makes you feel for the poor lonely guy on the sidewalk. Roy maybe gets too caught up in the pretty ribbons and bows (probably due to his dramatic background singers).
