Last April Mumford and Sons, Old Crow Medicine Show and Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeroes teamed up for a tour of the south in which they traveled from venue to venue via train. The first Railroad Revival Tour saw plenty of interaction between the three Americana acts and was captured in the outstanding documentary Big Easy Express by filmmaker Emmett Malloy. A second, more extended, installment of the Railroad Revival Tour has just been announced featuring Willie Nelson and Family, Band of Horses, Jamey Johnson and John Reilly & Friends. [...]

It's not the kind of record you'd hear on WNEW nor is it a monumental genre-spanning musical accomplishment. But, there are some fun things on it, like a groovy cover of Gotta Serve Somebody and, if you like his sort of music, it's well worth taking a listen (despite some reviews I've read to the contrary). Willie's not exactly an artist you'd associate with WNEW either but, as we all know, he's so cool he can hang in just about any [...]

Last month we got to see the great Willie Nelson play live at the Free Press Summer Fest in Houston . Lo and behold, his new video for the song "Roll Me Up (And Smoke Me)" was filmed at that very same fest. Willie Nelson official website
Monday's fun: ► American Royalty's residency at the Echo has been going great guns, and tonight the L.A. trio is joined by late addition Sahy Uhns , as well as Ahh G and zAK-MATIC. That's American Royalty's video for "Blood Keys," above. ► Terraplane Sun continues its residency at the Satellite, with support from the Mowgli’s, the Janks and Ry Cuming. ► As electronic acts with capitalized names go, this is pretty good: Resident band JMSN and L.A. duo DWNTWN play the Bootleg Bar. The long-running annual benefit concert Farm Aid will come to Hersheypark Stadium in Hershey, Penn. on Sept. 22. In addition, Jack Johnson, ALO, Pegi Young & the Survivors and Lukas Nelson & Promise of the Real will round out the lineup. The first Farm Aid took place in 1985 and over the years the foundation has raised over $40 million to benefit family farmers across the country. Tickets for [...]

We all love cover versions of our favorite rock songs, if only for the fresh perspective the covering artist brings to familiar material. Cover versions are particularly entertaining when they come out of left field - like when an artist jumps genres for material. Remember when Pat Boone covered metal songs? Yeah. One of our favorites is of course the AOR darlings the Carpenters, covering Klaatu's "Calling Occupants of Interplanetary Craft." Klaatu was a Canadian prog-rock outfit, and they are perhaps best remembered for a rumor that went out in the 1970s that Klaatu were actually the Beatles [...]

"I feel every artist is inherently granted one shot at singing about having a good time in his or her life, and six months ago, I realized I hadn't cashed in my chips yet," Adam Young (aka Owl City) recently told MTV News . A blind man could see that's just Young's way of rationalizing the chasing of an easy hit by hooking up with pop's It Girl of the moment. (And indeed, "Good Time" by Owl City and Carly Rae Jepsen debuted on Billboard's Hot 100 this week at No. 18.) But [...]

It may not look like much in the photo, but this is the largest convenience store in the world. In most places around the country, gasoline prices are dipping. You know what that means - summer's here and the time is right for piling the kids and/or the dog into the car for a road trip. We were on the road this past week, and deep in the heart of the Lone Star state we wheeled in to a truly awe-inspiring site: the Buc-ee's truck stop/convenience store just north of New Braunfels, Texas, between [...]

Willie Nelson - On The Road Again I drank a bottle of whiskey with two bronzed, blond British girls on the 25-hour train from Penang, Malaysia to Bangkok, Thailand. Let me tell you about it. What did we talk about? Stupid shit, mostly. Jobs. Crossover comedians (Brand, Gervais). TV shows. Their plans for when they would fly home in three days. What I miss about America (burritos, friends). Favorite drinks. Stories of losing passports. How they almost missed the train. [...]
Tonight, Foster the People, the band that won the world over with their single, "Pumped Up Kicks" from their album Torches, is playing at the Mann Center. They have already had stellar success playing with The Beach Boys at the Grammy's this past year and just finishing up an appearance at Bonnaroo. Gina Vespa from ... Continue reading

For his latest album 'Heroes', country legend Willie Nelson covered Pearl Jam's "Just Breathe" and now the video release finds Willie and his son Lukas, an up-and-coming musician, on a roadtrip together.
