Time for some reggae vibes on SVB. Some of you probably know the song "Armagideon Time" by The Clash from one of the greatest albums ever made. That would be London Calling. You can watch The Clash perform it below and download the original by Willie Williams , which he recorded in 1978 at Studio One. Download: Armagideon Time - Willie Williams

The show from last year developed into something so rock solid that it's hard to break it apart and fit new ideas in, but having captured that show on the Rosebowl DVD, it was clear that we have to refresh the show to some degree. We need a new opening certainly, then maybe three or four new songs to keep it interesting for us as much as everyone else. I've been keen to put in Mercy, for the novelty value of playing something unreleased, and then there's Trying to Throw Your Arms Around the World which will be a winner [...]

Willie Williams - Armagideon Time ( buy ) Well, why not honour reader ScurvyPete´s request and continue our Clash covers series with this apocalyptic roots reggae gem from 1978. A sharp Coxsone Dodd production from the legendary Studio 1 , based on an old rhythm called Real Rock . Note that where Williams urges the listener to put his trust in Jah for guidance in this iration, Strummer did away with all that in his remake. "No one will guide you [...]

Leonard Howell known as "The First Rasta" , bequeathed the Rastafarians six fundamental principles: Hatred for the white race. The complete superiority of the black race. Revenge on whites for their wickedness. The negation, persecution, and humiliation of the government and legal bodies of Jamaica. Preparation to go back to Africa, and [...]

"It is noh mistri / we mekkin histri" - Linton Kwesi Johnson On the Metropolitan Police's own website they say that the first Brixton riot in 1981 was the first serious riot in Britain during the 20th Century and it also states that the riot was the first that entailed substantial destruction of property since the formation of [...]

Yesterday a friend asked me "Why'd you pick 'Armagideon Time' for your blog's name?" When I decided to create whatever-the-heck-this-site-is back in the spring of 2006, there was a short list of potential names I considered using. All but one, "The Land of Clear Blue Radio" (after The Soviettes' song), were Clash-related, in honor of both the high regard in which I hold for the "only band that mattered." "Capitol Radio One," "Gates of the West," "The Right Profile" were all worthy contenders, but none felt or sounded as perfect as "Armagideon Time." Apart from being the title [...]

The Clash didn't cover a lot of songs on their albums, however they had impeccable taste. Here are some of the originals. Wrong 'Em Boyo - The Rulers Brand New Cadillac - Vince Taylor & His Playboys Covered on London Calling I Fought The Law - Bobby Fuller Four Police And Thieves - Junior [...]

This is my 100th post on Armagideon Time. I began this blog in an attempt to actually do something remotely productive with my time, instead of just coming home from work and playing videogames until I passed out. There were no great ambitions behind my starting it. It just seemed like the easiest of several contemplated projects to do; posting and commenting about various tracks from my collection beats trying to come up with well reasoned commentary about comic books and/or politics on a regular basis. If my writing is shit, at least there’s the music as a [...]
