Last Saturday night i had the pleasure of watching Melbourne boys King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard tear the stage at The Tote to shreds. In celebration of the launch of their EP Willoughby's Beach the lads took to the stage in their more nonchalant manner and proceeded to let loose. The EP was apparently committed live to tape in one sweat soaked, adrenaline fueled session at Paul Maybury's Fairfield warehouse. This was their final show in Melbourne before they play at the 21st Meredith Music Festival. Keen to see them there. [...]

Forget About Me , the latest LP from Saskatchewan's B.D. Willoughby , benefits from being a collaborative affair. Leveraging the strength of a collection of musical chameleons and some talented friends, B.D. is able to balance tear in your beer country laments with humor, bursts of noise, horns, harmonies and percussion. To paraphrase Robert Marley, the bucket has been dropped into the country music well so many times lately that bottom isn't just cracked, it's splintered. There are precious few original songs and while Willoughby may start the record with a pure country [...]
Final Monday of the month, here goes: ► Tapes 'n Tapes , the Minneapolis quartet who early this year released their third and best album, "Outside," visit the Satellite to do a makeup show for the scotched Sunset Junction. It's also the final night of Stone Darling residency, and while the show isn't free (it's a $13 ticket), there's plenty of value added since Willoughby is opening. ► Portland's Unknown Mortal Orchestra visits It's a School Night at Bardot, where they're joined by the Submarines [...]
STONE DARLING, WILLOUGHBY, DIOS, AND SPECIAL GUEST ON MONDAY AUG. 29TH AT THE SATELLITE, 1717 SILVER LAKE BOULEVARD, LOS ANGELES, 9:00PM/ FREE/ 21+
I'm a little ashamed to admit how I found this guy, but believe it or not I have Hollister to thank for it. Y'know how it is, I have this "friend" that was shopping there etc, etc. Anyway, I heard Hazelnut Moon playing and was instantly hooked. I was surprised that Hollister, of all places, [...]
Top 5 shows on a very good night for local music: ► It's officially the release date for Olin & the Moon's new album "Footsteps" — the L.A. quintet (augmented by string players) is celebrating with a Tuesday residency this month at the Echo, where tonight Coyol and Paulie Pesh support. ► Willoughby , with Henry Wolfe , plays the Hotel Cafe. I don't think I ever posted the video for Willoughby's "Frankenstein," so here you have it. The song is from 20082s "I Know What You're [...]

Gus Seyffert is one of those magical players that seems to matriculate to the good stuff. He's made a fine album as Willoughby , played alongside excellent local artists such as the Bird and the Bee , Mike Andrews , Charlie Wadhams and the Sweet Hurt , produced a slew of others and has an imprint of his own, Sargent Records. Earlier this year, he started the free "Sargent Singles" series — it was intended to be monthly, but his current gig as touring bassist for Norah Jones has stifled that — that [...]

The blogs are abuzz with the impending anniversary of John Lennon 's birth; the man would have turned 70 this Saturday, and in keeping with the digital world's everpresent bent towards relevance and immediacy, the faux-urgency of the date seems to have started an avalanche of tribute. And though we're not usually the bandwagon types, it's hard to ignore the way the Lennon story has come to define both the end of a social era, and the sad coda to the Beatles' breakup - and the impact his songs and spirit have had on music, both in [...]

International Tennis Champions slipped me a cassette of their music after I happened upon their very first show last fall, which reminded me that my car has a cassette player, which reminded me of bygone days when I delivered newspapers out of my car in the wee hours and wore out tape after tape, which reminded me of the simple joys of pop hooks and well-executed harmonies. "Everybody Wins!," the debut from the songwriting duo of Daniel Luttrell and Lura Jones, plays to my nostalgia perfectly, rooted in '60s and '70s pop but with ample modern flourishes to time-stamp [...]

Los Angeles band Willoughby opened for Band of Horses last Saturday at the Fox Theater in Pomona, which has been restored to its original art-deco splendor after being closed in 2002. This little Inland Empire city can be proud of bringing a new mid-size venue onboard beside other beautifully-restored theaters of the L.A. area like the Wiltern, the El Rey, and the Avalon. In the few months since its re-opening, the Fox has hosted Wilco and next week will have Ween and L.A. natives Airborne Toxic Event. Gus Seyffert (above) is the guy who [...]

[Apologies for the radio silence yesterday; I think Buzz Bands' server problems have been fixed. Here are some delectable options for tonight:] That band with Jack White in it is getting all the attention, but there are several other newsbies filling my ears with hot-licked blues-rock. Band of Skulls , playing L.A. for the umpteenth time since June behind their new album "Baby Darling Doll Face Honey," is one of them, and the U.K. trio headlines Spaceland tonight ( Useless Keys open). ... Mercury Prize nominee [...]

Utterly taken aback with Gus Seyfertt `s soothing vocal style and effortless delivery. I feel somehow befriended by his hushed, but deliberate musings. Technically superb, crisp production and visionary arrangements seem natural for Gus, a regular day at the office for this group of LA based musicians. Off the top of my head, The Divine Comedy would be a good random comparison, obviously accents do differ but both identical in highlighting dark humour with musical grace. The resulting album is a delicate masterpiece that was a dream fulfilled for Gus. [...]

It's really nice to come across one artist you like, do some digging, (or in this case, get a welcome promo tip) & find more really delightful music from someone closely involved with the first... extra rewarding somehow, as it is with Willoughby , performed and produced by Gus Seyffert, who also produced the EP by Charlie Wadhams , that I liked a whole lot recently . Truly, there's some marvellous talent & music out there, no matter how dispiriting the charts & gloomy local gigs might seem to be, and how chuffing cool it is to [...]

[Welcome to June. We'll celebrate by kicking off some new residencies — and by wishing the Broken West's Ross Flournoy a happy birthday ...] Oliver Future takes another big step in its morphosis by launching a residency at the Echo, and the first night will offer Useless Keys as main support. ... At Spaceland, Castledoor — its debut album "Shouting at Mountains" barely a month old — flexes its pop muscles, with help from the Monolators [Eli [...]

A ver si os gustan . m p3: Bricolage-Turn U Over mp3: Willoughby-Story mp3: [...]
