If you were to ask folks on either coast to describe the Midwest, they'd likely tell you that it consists exclusively of sleepy farm towns and insignificant flyover markets devoid of excitement or character. While to some extent this might be true, major metro areas such as Chicago are a thriving cultural hotbed rich with history, pride, and a desire to share its artistic vision with the rest of the world. With Chicago's musical past deeply rooted in jazz and the blues, the Windy City Sound evolved significantly through much of the 20th Century to include elements of soul, rock, [...]

video for Willy Joy 's Whispering Woods directed by Mark Newman

Today I've got the premeire of the new music video fro Willy Joy's 'Whispering Woods'. Willy Joy is newcomer with a lot of buzz, he's been touring all over through being the groups Kid Sister's DJ, as well as his solo career. He's got that funky sound reminding me a little bit of Diplo and Major Lazer. The video is very fitting, being just as wild. It's got some cool subtle camera tricks, that works well with the abstract track. At first I had a WTF reaction, then I started to groove to the chaotic mess. Check it out, turn [...]

Got the promo for the new Anna Lunoe / Diamond Lights collab in my mail the other day. Super good email! Out on Yes Yes, home to Toni Toni Lee, this record packs some sizza punch. Not to mention the stellar remixes, my favorite from house LORD Solo and a hectic bang0r from T&B's Willy Joy. Good package! Diamond Lights & Anna Lunoe on the up 'n' up. Anna Lunoe & Diamond Lights - Stronger (Club Mix) Anna Lunoe & [...]
Disco of Doom makes exactly the kind of music you think it would from just the name alone: bangers that leave a path of destruction across dance halls across the world (much like General Sherman's March to the Sea, but I digress). Disco of Doom, the production duo of Tom Real and The Rogue Element, have been growing steadily releasing EP1 in 2008 and, followed by a second EP in 2010 featuring 'Sex Face,' a monster track that got support from heavy hitters like Brodinski, MIXHELL, Boys Noize and Drop the Lime. The [...]

EDM genre-hopping NYC native Udachi recently previewed his 'OO-DA-CHEE EP' megamix on his Soundcloud and it's really just spectacular. The EP, forthcoming on Party Like Us Records , is due out February 14th. (Just in case you don't know what to get that special DJ in your life for V-Day, this is it!) To see what Udachi is really all about, I suggest you see him live. I can honestly say his show was one of the best I've ever been to. You can catch him at the Marlin Room @ Webster Hall [...]
Baaaaaaaaaanger. Its not a fake-out. Get the download on Mad Decent .

Brooklyn's own Body Language has risen from the underground armed with synths, vocoder, glockenspiel, percussion, and three graceful voices. Their original music was born from weekly dance parties set up by Grant Wheeler and Matt Young, who quickly enrolled glockenspiel guru Angelica Bess and drummer Ian Chang. Their efforts, which illustrated their life in Brooklyn, were delivered in the five-track Speaks EP . Body Language - Huffy Ten Speed After collaborating with such wildly different artists as Theophilus London , Machinedrum or Passion Pit and sharing stage [...]

Willy Joy has a new EP out today on Trouble and Bass in the form of the Whispering Woods . Deemed a redefinition of what it means to be "heavy", the EP is three tracks deep and available for purchase now. Props to Willy. Chicago misses you.

Interview: Willy Joy Down from The Windy City, Willy Joy, is fresh on the scene, but already making a name for himself as one of the the most genre-spanning, experimental artists out there, dropping everything from wispy bedroom jams like "Woman Like Me," to the bounciest of in-your-face moombahton drums, to massive deranged electro buzzers. He's just one of those guys who can do it all, but does it all differently, one of those producers who is entirely unconcerned with how a particular genre is "supposed" to sound and more concerned with burning the formula and giving our [...]

It's getting to be that time, the seasons are changing and fall is gonna creep on us before we know it is here. That doesn't mean the party has to end ... check out our buddy Willy Joy 's The Fall Mix 2011 .

'Tis the season for mixtapes and since it's been a while since we've done one ( ed. note: got one baking in the oven as we speak ), here's one from Plant Music artist and Chicago native Willy Joy . It features everything from house to dubstep to techno to moombahton, which was born and raised right here in Washington, DC. Tittsworth and Alvin Risk's 'Pendejas' make an appearance on the mix, serving as the cherry on top of a delicious Chocolate City sundae. Tracklist after the jump. DOWNLOAD: Willy Joy - [...]

WILLY JOY - WOMAN LIKE ME REMIXES by TOP BILLIN BAWZ - HIGHER EP by TOP BILLIN
Top Billin have had a very good year with their releases from Moombahton king Dillon Francis and Sir Nenis. They continue the trend with a remix EP for Willy Joy's shimmering house track "Woman Likes Me". The original track has been given a major over hall thanks to Flosstradamus, Dillon Francis, Cousin Cole and Bird Petterson. The EP features some big names and the remixes definitely don't dissapoint. Dillion Francis gives the track his signature Moombahton touch and molds the original tracks key synth to fit with with the slightly slower pace of his remix. Flosstradamus transforms the original into [...]

I know I'm late with this one, but better late than never right? Cousin Cole remixes Willy Joy's 'Woman Like Me' from the EP of the same name, out soon on Top Billin . Perfect for this lovely Monday afternoon. Willy Joy - Woman Like Me (Cousin Cole Remix)
Happy Tuesday gents! Let's hop right into this one with a new track from none other than tribal tetras stand-out, Congorock. The Italian's new song, Sirius, listens like a drummy, spacey intro clip for only the most badass of Mortal Kombat characters. Moose and I actually had the opportunity to see this producer talent just a few weeks ago, however, we were unfortunately thrown out of the club for being a little too rage-happy. Regrettable situation, but enjoy the tune: Sirius - Congorock Cop it on Beatport: http://www.beatport.com/releas e/sirius/436187 Next up for [...]

Top Billin appear to have the Midas touch at the minute, putting out hit after hit after hit. 2011 has been a big year for them, and it's only getting bigger with releases from the likes of Dillon Francis and Sir Nenis. In the spirit of such success they've just released the latest Willy Joy EP, a remix package for the recent 'Woman Like Me' single. You may remember the track from the shimmering house mix he put together for our podcast last year; a thoroughly enjoyable affair with unforgettable vocals and a relaxed production [...]

Another solid round of remixes for Willy Joy 's stellar "Woman Like Me" single, this batch coming from New York producer Cousin Cole and New York/ Chicago production duo Flosstradamus . While the former hones in on the Tech House side of the spectrum, the latter goes for all out dance floor filler. Both a safe bet.
